#Hospital – December 20, 2016

Halisi has spent the afternoon in surgery, taking care of Aylena herself while one of the other doctors did their best to bring the asari attacker back from the brink. It is late evening now, and both asari have been brought out of sedation some time ago, although it's unlikely either of them are in much condition to do anything. They've been put in adjacent one-patient rooms as a safety measure while they recover. The small rooms

feature a dresser, a sink, monitoring equipment hooked up to the patients as well as IV stands, a couple of armchairs and a TV screen each. The windows look out at the forest to the east of the town.

The militia has confiscated the asari attacker's weapons, armor and biotic amplifier. She's to be exiled upon recovery and the equipment will be returned to her upon leaving the town. They have not posted anyone near the hospital rooms, however.

Jason has been in the waiting room, still in his armor, since they brought the two asari in as he awaits word from Halisi that they can go inside. A long day in a hardsuit hasn't kept him in the greatest of moods, though the news of Aylena's survival has helped somewhat. He has made sure to call Vasquez and keep her in the loop. Currently, he's simply seated in a rather uncomfortable chair, elbow on the armrest propping up his head as

he looks over a datapad with great disinterest.

Nathan is idly rolling an unlit cigarette between his fingers to keep himself occupied. His scarf, hat and gloves are piled up next to him on a free chair and his gaze is focused on the wall opposite him. He had sent a message to Sofia to update her on why he may be late home tonight. The reply was, thankfully, rather understanding. After a long silence, he turns

to Jason and asks, "Okay, what's the deal with Aylena? From what I've heard, it seems to be every over week that someone is crashing into that place with some sorta grudge against her. And that's not including the time we head off to pull her out of a sticky situation on another planet."

Halisi enters the waiting room, typing away on her datapad. SHe looks up, her eyes scanning around until she spots Jason and Nathan. "The patients should be ready to talk now. They are both have considerable amounts of medication in their systems still, so some grogginess is to be expected."

Jason snorts loudly, giving a roll of his eyes as he looks up from his datapad to Nathan. "Your guess is as good as mine, Ten. Seems like this asari is connected to the last group of assholes that tried killing her. That asari has more secrets than I'm comfortable with...." He gives a quick shake of his head, glancing off arbitrarily in the direction of the room she was placed in. "I think it might be time she tells us what in the hell

is going on. We're paid to keep the Respite safe. Glorified bouncers. We're not her personal bodyguards and I'm starting to feel like that's what we're being used for..." he trails off as Halisi approaches, cutting himself short. He simply nods and gives a glance towards Nathan before rising from his seat.

Nathan grimaces at Jason's reply. "Wonderful...". As Halisi pipes up, he meets Jason's glance and stands, almost in sync. He pockets his hat and gloves and then, with a shrug, wraps the scarf back around his neck. He subtly checks the holster beneath his jacket, taking small comfort in having his pistol on hand. "Alright, doc, thanks." He waves Jason forwards,

letting him pick who they're going to talk to first. However, before he would follow on, he stops besides Halisi and lowers his voice. "Hey, uh, Halisi? You mind if we have a talk after I'm done? I haven't been feeling too great after the... mission and I think it's about time I get some actual advice for it. From a professional." He then adds playfully with

a wink. "Wondering if you know anyone to send me to?"

Jason gives Halisi a brief pat on the shoulder as he passes by. "Might want to stay close. Seems like we can't go anywhere today without someone getting shot." he jokes, though a long sigh can be heard from him as he continues on down the hall. He waits just outside of the rooms for Ten to catch up when he arrives, allowing Nathan his space to speak with Halisi.

Halisi furrows her eyebrows slightly as she listens to Nathan, although the last comment causes a slight raise of one eyebrow. She turns back to her datapad, typing something. "You should know better than to antagonize the person responsible for keeping you patched up." she says without looking up, a faint hint of an amused look crossing her face before her expression returns to its previous tired but focused state. She turns her

head back to Nathan with a nod. "Of course, I'll make time." she says, offering a brief smile before turning and heading down the hall, back towards the recovery rooms for the two asari.

Nathan smiles warmly at Halisi, chuckling as she walks off. He walks over to Jason, offering him a tired nod. "So, how do you wanna do this? Bad cop, asshole cop?" He asks, pointing to Jason first before indicating to himself. The smirk on his face betrays the seriousness of his question. Well, mostly.

Aylena is tapping on her omni-tool to type up a message to update her employees about her current state. If she's been allowed a glass of water, it would be half empty next to the bed.

The asari attacker, who has yet to identify herself, is trying to fall asleep again with little success. She hasn't said much since waking up.

Aylena disables and puts the omni-tool down again not even a sentence in, as she's missing keys and the words just aren't coming to her.

Jason gives a glance towards the door of the asari attacker before resting his gaze on Nathan once again. "I'm not sure." he admits with a sigh, bringing a gauntleted hand up to run through his hair. "Didn't exactly plan on interrogating someone when I rolled out of bed this morning..." He glances back and forth between the two doors and gives a shrug. "We don't have a whole lot to go on, so I guess we just play it by ear and see what

we can get. I mean, at this point I'm guessing she knows we mean business." he says as he approaches the attackers door and taps the panel, "You did shoot her." he adds with a tired smirk as he glances back at Nathan before stepping inside.

Nathan smiles wryly. "Only a little," he says before following Jason in. His persona immediately hardens as he looks to the asari, shoving a hand into his jacket pocket as he studies her. He moves to one side of her bed, giving Jason a small glance. "Goooood day to you," he declares to her loudly, just to make her aware that she is most certainly not going to get

any sleep at the moment. He scuffs his boot on the foot of the bed, giving it a little bit of a shake to add to it. "We have some questions for you."

Halisi enters teh room after the other two, remaining in the back with her arms crossed as she monitors them. The asari had attacked people, yes, but Halisi had a responsibility for her patients, even the murderous ones.

The asari groans and stares at Nathan, but she doesn't say anything, lest she might provoke him to be more annoying. The only response she gives is an nod after a few seconds pass.

Jason rounds the bed on the opposite side of Nathan and plops down into one of the armchairs. "Look. We don't want to be here any more than you want us to be here." he begins once Nathan has finished speaking, "So tell us what in the hell is going on between you and Aylena-... or Janysa or whatever the hell she's calling herself and why you're so intent on hurting the kid and then we'll be on our way." He leans to the side, resting his

elbow against the armrest and propping his head up once again, very clearly not in the mood to mince words.

The asari looks over at Jason. "It's a... long story," she eventually says. "I have to stop her lawsuit... somehow. I don't want to spend... the rest of my maiden years in servitude."

Nathan quirks an eyebrow. "Servitude? To whom? Aylena... Janysa... whateverhernameis? Come on, don't waste our time with vague answers."

Halisi shifts her stance a little, a hint of curiosity in her expression as she listens.

The patient sighs. She couldn't count on these people to know Illium that well. "Indentured servitude, it's an... Illium thing," she says. "Just... look it up."

Jason blinks a couple of times, clearly confused by the answer. "We don't need to look it-... I know things!." he says defensively before looking between Halisi and Nathan with a shrug that pretty much says 'no idea what she's talking about'. "So you're trying to stop a lawsuit that Aylena filed that- if she wins- will put you into servitude...?" he asks, letting out a long, drawn out sigh as he shifts in his seat, "That about sum it

up? Because if so, I've got a better idea than running around shooting up bars and attacking kids. Hire a lawyer. Slightly less chance of getting shot."

Nathan pinches the bridge of his nose. "That was not at all what I asked," he growls out at her answer. However, since Jason asked and provided a much more logical solution to the asari, he remains silent for the moment to see what her answer is.

The asari snorts and lays her head back on the pillow. "That sums it up," she says. "There's... no chance we're winning that case. What my... colleague did was indefensible."

Nathan furrows his brow. "Right now, your answers are giving us more and more questions. What case? What did your colleague do? And why in God's name was coming to shot whojamaflip the best solution by this point? Are things really getting that desperate for you and your people that a... suicide mission seemed more preferable than taking this to court?"

Jason furrows his brow. "So... So you decided to just try and kill her instead? Look, I'm not going to say I agree with the idea of indentured servitude..." he says, suddenly finding himself wondering what part the fake teeth play into all of this. A moment passes before he manages to push that question out of his mind and continue, "...But-... uhh....." he trails off for a moment as he tries to get himself back on track, "...But

you're not exactly making much of a case for yourself by trying to fucking kill her!" As Nathan speaks up, he gives a nod as he awaits the answers to those questions.

"Yes," she answers. "It's no small sum... she's suing us for, and she'll get it." She gives a long sigh. "My collegaue overreacted to not getting a contract, there... was more going on between them I think, but he's not saying crap to me or... Oritern... my other collegaue."

Nathan runs a hand through his hair, a disbelieving look cross his weathered features. He looks to Jason, a silent question in his gaze before he turns back to the asari. "I take it these friends are back on Illium? They sent you out here on your own?"

She nods. "Yes," she says. "Find out what happened to the last group, and... get Janysa to stop the suit."

Halisi elects not to voice her thoughts on the methods through which the asari elected to 'stop the suit'. She remains in the back of the room, watching, but her attention shifts as a notification bleeps on her datapad, and she checks it with a quiet sigh. Always more work than there's time, but she needed to be here.

Jason waits for the asari to answer Nathan's questions before speaking up. "Okay, so Aylena sues you-..." he looks from Nathan to the asari, "...rightfully, by the sound of things. You're all shaking in your boots because she's gonna win, so you come out here and cause a whole lot of hell." He sighs once again after laying it out, "What we need is names and contact information for the other people involved. I'm tired of our people

getting caught in the middle of this little feud. This is your free pass, but it's the only one we're giving. The only reason you're still breathing right now after opening fire in a public place is because we had questions that needed answered. If any more of your people show up looking for trouble, it won't be good for them." he says. His tone indicates that it's not a threat, but a warning.

Nathan rolls his shoulders, a devilish grin spreading across his face as he looks down at the asari. It's a look suggesting that Jason is underselling his warning.

I dunno if they told you, but the last time people threatened shewithmany names ended up being, ah, blown up. Repeatedly. With a grenade launcher. Mine.

The asari is still staring up at the ceiling, not bothering looking at her interrogators. "Farik Oritern and Erix Kanthus," she says. "If you... give me my omni-tool, I'll get you the contact details." After a second, she adds, "Could I have some water?" She's not bothering to address the threat/warning, though she'd be stupid to not keep it in mind.

Jason gives a nod, passing a glance to Halisi. "Can you grab her omni-tool?" he asks as he stands up. "I'll go get her some water." He glances back to Nathan and nods at the asari, a wordless suggestion to keep an eye on her, though it was unlikely that she was going anywhere in her condition. Still, people try to do crazy things when they feel cornered. He turns on his heels and leaves the room.

Halisi grabs a plastic cup from the dispenser near the sink, filling it up with water and stepping up to the bed. She maintains a neutral expression as she holds the cup up to the asari's lips, either assisting her or letting her take over the drinking herself depending on whether she grabs the cup or not.

((Retcon Jason post*))

She carefully grabs the glass of water, taking over the drinking. Some does spill down the side of her mouth dripping onto the pillow, but most of it goes where it's supposed to. "Thanks," she says.

Jason gives a nod to the asari and retrieves the omni-tool from a compartment on his armor. "Here you go..." he says, looking the omni-tool over for a moment before leaning forward and setting it at the edge of the asari's bed. "Look. Whatever all of this is about..." he continues, "...Whatever is going on between your people and Aylena-... Janysa... It needs to stay between you. Talk it out. Fight it out in court. I don't really

give a shit. But the moment you stepped into Freedom Falls and started opening fire-..." his expression turns more frustrated, disgusted even, "...on a child at that..." He sucks in a deep breath and shakes his head. "You escalated the situation. Keep this feud up and servitude is going to be the least of your problems."

Halisi steps back once the asari accepts the water. She raises an eyebrow as Jason places the omni-tool within the asari's reach, but she doesn't comment on it. Security is hardly her area of expertise. Better to leave it to the professionals.

Nathan sneers, now folding his arms across his chest. "And I'm not sure if you noticed, but we tend to take issue with people shooting up our home. And at a kid? Well...". He leans forwards, eyes narrowing to slits. And with him lent forward as he is, it provides a decent view of the pistol holstered beneath his jacket. "Just be really fucking glad it was an easy

to fix wound you got. Working out in the Terminus has taught me a myriad of ways to cause worse injuries than that." He jabs a finger at where his shot connected with her, the malice oozing from his voice.

The asari reaches for her omni-tool and picks it up, rolling her eyes at Nathan. "I get it, you're a big badass Terminus merc. Happy now?" She logs in on her omni-tool, and sends over the contact information for Farik Oritern.

Jason settles back into his seat and activates his own omni-tool to accept the information, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth as the asari gives Nathan lip. Once he's able to confirm the info has been received, he returns his gaze to the asari. "And the other one?" he asks, "Kanthus?"

Nathan merely smiles at her, offering her a wink before he leans back. He folds his arms across his chest, rapping his fingers against his forearm as he watches her carefully.

She continues tapping on the omni-tool, eventually sending the other one as well. "There," she says. "Are we done now?"

Jason cocks an eyebrow as he peers at the asari through his omni-tool interface. After a moment the orange glow dissipates and he leans forward once again, resting his armored forearms on his knees. "Done? I guess that depends on whether or not your friends decide to keep shitting in our backyard." He sighs and stands from his seat. "For everyone's sake, let's hope they don't." he says before starting towards the door.

Nathan dutifully follows Jason from the room, arms now back at his sides. He falls into step and murmurs, "This is only going to get worse, isn't it?"

She sighs relieved now that they're finally letting her rest. "I'm leaving this cold planet the first chance I get," she says.

Halisi walks up to the bed as the others leave. "It will be some time before you're in any state to travel. You are of course free to leave as soon as the bill has been handled, even if it is ill-advised." She holds out her hand, glancing at the omni-tool. "The hospital will be taking care of your personal effects until you're ready to be released."The building VI will be monitoring your room, so if you need assistance, we will

know."

Jason shakes his head, stopping once he's outside of the room and out of earshot. "I don't know." he admits to Nathan with a sigh. "It can't be cheap for them to keep sending people out here to take shots at Aylena. Especially if we keep shooting them. I just can't believe this is all over some fucked up Illium laws." He places his hands on his hips as he glances towards Aylena's room. "Might be best for everyone if we can just get

Aylena to talk to these people. Maybe settle something out of court. Though, if the way she manages the Respite staff is any indication, I'd say she's probably not too opposed to the idea of indentured servitude..." He snorts and shakes his head once more, "...Asari, right? Old as fuck and still haven't figured out all the answers. Makes me wonder if there's any hope for us."

Nathan paces a few steps, mulling it over for a moment. "By the way she was describing it," he says as he jabs a thumb back at the room, "It probably -is- cheaper for them to send out hitmen every other week than going through with this... court thing." He sighs, rubbing the back of his neck. "The way I see it, Aylena is just letting them come to her. Every time

they send one of their people out, we end up shooting them and thus we're slowly whittling them away. One by one." He glances to Aylena's room, chewing on his lower lip. "But I'm in agreement with you. We need this to be over sooner, rather than later. If this keeps dragging on, it'll only be a matter of time before Aylena runs out of luck or one of our own

get's taken out protecting her."

She shuts off the omni-tool and hands it over, not in any mood to argue about it. She can ask for it later, after all. "I'm not going anywhere until I'm fit to travel then," she says.

Jason bites his lower lip, continuing to stare at Aylena's door. "From the sound of things, she's not just some 'hitman', though. She referred to these people as her 'colleagues'. I don't see how being dead could possibly be preferable to losing this case, but it's not a good sign if that's where their mindset is. At the same time, we can't just pull protection from the Respite... We've got friends who work there and I'm not about to

just leave them knee-deep in whatever shit Aylena has dragged them into." He gives another loud, frustrated sigh and brings a hand to his face to rub at his eye. "Let's just see what she has to say." he decides, "While I don't like the idea of getting Redrock mixed up in someone elses legal issues, I'm also not okay with letting this shit spill out into the streets. Lema could've been killed over some stupid lawsuit that has

nothing to do with her. Or this town, for that matter." And with that, he starts towards Aylena's room.

Nathan nods slightly, following behind Jason. "One problem at a time for now. We speak to Aylena, get her to spill the beans and then decide where to go from there. Because I have heard enough shit about Illium to know that if we get engrossed in this legal... whatever it is, we might just end up in servitude ourselves without even knowing it." He snorts, shaking

his head. "I tell you, there really isn't much difference between Illium and Omega except a one is slightly more polished than the other." He pauses for a moment before adding, "Actually, Omega is a lot simpler. Not that I have ever been there myself, mind. But I worked with a fella for a month or so who spent most of his time there. He talked about how at

least on Omega, you knew who you were dealing with and how it was going to go."
