Renala | "I don't doubt for a second that you know what we're talking about," she says. "Tell us what we want to know, and we'll stop wasting your time."
#FreedomFalls – February 27, 2014
Quinn remains calm and collected as he quickly responds to the asari, "You can ask as many times as you'd like, in as many ways as you can come up with." he says, "I haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about. As I said, Hnipinn Minerals would probably be your best chance if you're looking to get into the field." He stands from his seat and moves towards the shelving unit behind his desk.
Quinn isn't a very large man. At least nowhere near as large as his personality. He removes a datapad from the shelving unit and returns to his seat. "I have a few... Friends..." he says tentatively, "Who work over at Hnipinn. If you'd like, I could make a few calls and get you an interview. For the right price, I'll even put in a good word for you." he adds, flashing a pearly white smile.
Zaylus gives a sideways glance at Mendez, and then the krogan standing near the door. He's unsure what to make of the situation and stands quietly.
Renala shakes her head, and sighs. "I'm a big girl, I can do my own applications," she says with a forced smile. "Just give me their contact addresses and where to find them."
Quinn nods and slides the datapad across the desk to her. "Is that all?" he asks, glancing between the guests, "Is there anything else I can help you with?" He continues to hide behind his smug grin.
The datapad has basic information regarding Hnipinn Minerals. The type of stuff anybody could find on the extra-net. A few business contact addresses are displayed with accompanying names for, what one would assume, Hnipinn higher-ups.
Renala shakes her head and drops the datapad unceremoniously onto the desk. "I have one friend in Hnipinn," she begins. "His name's Perkins. You know him?"
Mendez takes a step closer to the desk in an intentionally threatening manner, keeping his arms folded across his chest.
Quinn puts a hand up, staying the krogan in his place. "Perkins?" he asks, tilting his head to the side for a moment, "Ahhh, yes. Jonathan. We've done a bit of business together. How is he doing?" The man's grin widens in an almost mocking manner.
Renala glances over her shoulder at the approaching krogan and shakes her head. She stares at the man. "I was about to ask you," she says. "He told me you had an opening for a mining position."
Mendez turns to face the krogan momentarily, only turning his attention back to Quinn once Wrend has backed down.
Quinn appears to be caught off guard for the first time since their arrival. "Oh..." he says, "Oh! You're Jonathan's friends! Yes, he told me about you." he says enthusiastically, "He... Didn't mention that there were three of you." He raises an eyebrow before fishing through his desk for another datapad. He studies the screen for a moment.
Quinn looks up from his screen, looking between the three visitors, "And... You're all qualified to operate a TR-14 Auger?" he asks, glancing back at the datapad to ensure he got the model right.
Renala | "I can make it dance," she says with feigned enthusiasm, even if she hasn't the slightest idea what it is. "Just tell me how I can get in touch with them, and I'll send them an application and the relevant documents. Same goes for the other two."
Mendez clears his throat quickly and looks between Renala and Zaylus. "Uhh... Yeah. Absolutely." he says, agreeing with the asari. He manages another look in the krogan's direction, worried that the charade wouldn't go entirely unnoticed.
Quinn lets out a short chuckle. Even his laugh sounds condescending. "Oh, no no no no no. I suppose Jonny didn't go into detail, hmm? This is... off-the-record work. There's no... 'relevant documents'." he continues, giving another grating chuckle, "You leave me your name and contact information, and I'll relay it to my partner. He'll contact you, and you can go from there. How does that work for you?"
Renala sighs. "Or you could tell me where they're set up," she says. "I won't agree on a job without even knowing where they're set up."
Quinn sighs and sets down the datapad, folding his hands atop it. "Why must you be so difficult?" he pleads, "We're all professionals here, right? You've given me attitude since you first walked through the door, and I've been nothing but kind to you in spite of this. This is simply the way it works, sweetheart. If you'd like to be contacted, leave your information. If not, you know where the door is."
Mendez sighs and gives Renala something of a shrug, "Do what you've gottta do. But I'm not leaving my information with some bottom-feeding scumbag." he says, making no attempt to mask his distaste for Quinn.
Quinn gives an indifferent shrug, his smug smile still plastered across his face, "You're just a ball of happiness, aren't you." he teases. "And do you two share in his... rather crude, opinion?" he asks, looking between Zaylus and Renala.
Zaylus | "As much agreeing with him pains me," he begins, shifting slightly in his spot. "I have to concur with the sentiment."
Renala looks thoughtful as she enables her omni-tool, rapidly tapping on it. "But don't tell whoever it is that I've agreed on anything yet," she says as she sends the information, the file altered with the fake name.
Quinn 's grin widens. He activates his own omni-tool and examines the screen for a moment. "Excellent, Miss Dyhnas. I'm sure he'll be in touch soon. Now, is there anything else, or does that conclude our business?"
Renala | "That concludes our business," she says as she stands up. "Thank you for your time and patience, Mr. Williams."
Quinn rises from his seat as well and extends a hand across the desk, directly towards the asari, purposely ignoring the other two. "And thank you for yours."
Quinn gives the asari's hand a firm shake and releases it. He adjusts his jacket and returns to his seat with a nod.
Mendez wastes no time moving towards the door. He bumps the krogan as he exits into the hallway, making no attempt to apologize.
Renala returns the nod before turning around and walking outside, but stops in her tracks as she notices Mendez bumping into a krogan. Knowing their species' reputed temper, she decided it was best to not get caught in the middle of it if something happened.
Wrend takes a step into the hallway behind Mendez and clasps a hand onto the human's armored shoulder, holding him in place. "We're not done, human." he sneers as he jerks the large man around to face him.
Wrend snorts at the turian's objection. "You two aren't welcome back." he growls, "This is the only warning I'll give you. If I see you back here, things will not go well for you." He thrusts Mendez' shotgun into the man's chest, pushing it into him with enough force to push the man back a foot or two. "Now get out. Waste of fucking time..." he mutters. He steps to the side and unholsters Zaylus' Carnifex, holding it by the barrel.
Zaylus | "Oh, don't worry about that." He says, stepping forward and attempting to take his weapon from the krogan.
Wrend gives the turian a toothy grin, holding on to the pistol for a moment before letting it go. His gaze remains fixed on Zaylus as he produces Renala's weapon and extends it towards her.
Zaylus holds gaze with the krogan, offering back an admittedly less intimidating look, not for lack of trying. He holsters the weapon and steps back.
Wrend gives Renala a nod. "Pleasure doing business, Miss Dyhnas." he says, still clearly worked up over Zaylus' and Mendez' lack of respect.
Mendez casts another glance back at Wrend as he continues down the hallway before exiting through the door they initially entered from.
Renala holsters her pistol, returning the nod wordlessly. She starts making her way down the hall, as well.
Mendez sighs once all three are out of the hallway and out of earshot of the krogan. "That could've gone better..." he mutters.
Renala nods, falling into step beside him. "Mhm," she says with a sigh, not sure about talking more about it in the presence of this bar's patronage.
The group gets a few more looks as they exit the back room. The booth containing the customers in primitive armor seem to take a particular interest in the trio, sparking up conversation at the sight of them.
Renala doesn't really look around as she continues in the shortest route to the exit without bumping into anyone or anything.
Zaylus pays less attention to the patrons as he did on the way in, seemingly uniterested as they make their way out.
Molly gives a short wave as the group passes her. "Leaving so soon?" she calls out, with little enthusiasm.
Mendez glances at the bartender, giving her a cold look, but remains quiet as he approaches the door. He quickly prods at the panel and exits the building as the door opens. He takes a deep breath once outside, but keeps his pace, walking towards the shuttle waiting right where they left it at.
Mendez only stops walking once he reaches the shuttle. He turns towards Renala with a look of regret on his face as the doors slide open. "Why did you give him your information?" he asks in an almost accusatory tone, "Surely it won't take long for him to realize that your contact information doesn't match up with that fake name you gave him, right? Then what!?"
Renala | "Because that's the only chance we have at getting to this guy," she says. "And until he receives anything from me, it'll show up as the fake name on his end."
Mendez sighs and rubs at the stubble on the side of his head. "I know but-..." he shakes his head, frustrated at the whole situation, "What do we do now? What if he finds out who you are and comes after us?"
Renala frowns. "We wait," she says. "I only gave him my contact address. I'll make sure to inform you all if I hear something from them."
Mendez turns away from Renala and paces a for a few steps before turning back and giving a shrug. "I guess so. What choice do we have now, huh?" he grunts before hopping into the shuttle and taking a seat.
Renala enters the shuttle last. "More than if we just left," she says, frustrated with the situation, as well. "If you guys had a better idea, why didn't I hear it?"
Mendez shakes his head before leaning it against the shuttle wall rather harshly. "Because..." he sighs, "Because there wasn't a better idea." he admits. "With that krogan around, there wasn't much we could do. I just feel like leaving empty handed is better than leaving with a target on our backs... We could've come up with something."
The shuttle door closes and it begins to slowly pick up speed as it begins its journey back to Redrock Agency.
Mendez shakes his head, "No... You went with your gut. I shouldn't lose my temper..." he apologizes, "I know... It's not like we can just call a time out and discuss things. You did what you felt was right." he nods, "We'll figure this out."
Renala nods. "Yeah, we will," she says. "We'll make it up as we go and hope for the best... which was how Wolfe told me to handle this."
Zaylus snorts, "In that case, he'll be proud of you." He says good-naturedly, settling back in his seat.
