After a short time, the shuttle comes to a stop out front of Redrock Agency and the shuttle doors slowly open.
#RedrockAgency – February 28, 2014
Mendez grabs ahold of the shuttle-door frame and hops out, his heavy boots hitting the ground with a thud. "My shift at Hnipinn starts in about an hour." he sighs, marching towards the front door, "So let's get this over with."
Renala follows him out of the shuttle, nodding. "Yeah, let's," she says, falling into step shortly after him.
Mendez quietly operates the door panel and crosses through the lobby and into the unlocked briefing room.
Jason is pouring a large amount of coffee grounds into the coffee maker, cussing under his breath, seemingly at the machine itself. He turns his attention to the others as the door opens, setting the can of coffee grounds aside. "You're back..." he says, rubbing his hands together to sweep any stray coffee grounds from his gauntlets, "So? How did it go?"
Renala hums thoughtfully. "We met the guy," she says. "He was a lying asshole, but with a krogan and another goon in fancy armor there, we couldn't really squeeze it out of him. Pretending to be Perkin's friends, he started talking about a job opening. I gave him my contact address, with the wrong name, but... I'm not sure if I made the right decision."
Mendez folds his arms across his chest and listens as Renala speaks, nodding in affirmation to her story. "I'm a little worried that this may come back to us, Jason." he admits, "But the only other option was to leave empty handed. I'm not sure if I agree with the decision, but-..." he shrugs, "... at least we're still in the fight for now, I suppose."
Jason nods to himself a few times, "Yeah..." he sighs, looking towards the ground for a moment before turning his attention back to the asari, "What do you think, Renala?" he asks, placing a hand atop the table he's beside and leaning his weight against it, "You think this could bite us in the ass?"
Renala considers it for a moment. "All I gave them was my contact address labeled Thara Dyhnas," she says. "As for whether they'd see through that, I can't tell."
Jason nods once again. "Shit..." he mutters to himself, "Alright. Well, what's done is done, right?" he continues, "You made a choice in the heat of the moment, so we're just going to have to roll with it. More importantly, what's the consensus on Quinn? Are we sure this lead is the one we want to pursue?" he asks, looking between the three silently for a moment, "We've still got Phillips to consider."
Mendez glances at Renala for a moment before nodding to Jason. "I'm gonna say yes... I know trash when I see it, and Quinn?" he nods again, "Quinn is definitely trash." He goes quiet, waiting for the other two to put their two cents in.
Jason considers it for a moment. "Alright. Well, looks like we play the waiting game for now, then." he says, "But as soon as he contacts you, let me know." he continues, holding eye contact with the asari, "We need to be careful from here on out."
Renala sighs. "Yeah, and I'll check out my options," she says with a frown. "Worse come to worst, I might be the next dissappearing miner."
Jason gives Mendez a nod, furrowing his brow, "No it's not. We're not gonna let it happen, Renala." he insists, "Go home. Get some rest. And try not to worry about this. We'll figure something out." He takes a couple steps towards the asari and put a hand on her shoulder, "There's a man's life in our hands. Possibly a few. Your choice may have been the only thing giving them a chance." he says in an attempt at being supportive.
Renala looks thoughtful for a while before a small smile creeps up. "Thank you," she says before looking at Jason. "I'll try not to worry about it, but I'll set some things up just in case."
Jason pats her shoulder one more time before moving his hand away. "Do what you have to do." he agrees, "Just don't let this spook you. It's not a problem until it's a problem."
Renala nods. "I won't let it," she says, "but it'll help to have something for you to follow if it does."
Jason steps back, retaking his position beside the coffee maker. "Sounds good to me. So does that about cover it?" he asks, looking between the group to see if anyone had anything else to add.
Renala smirks as she looks at the coffee machine. "Yeah, it does for me," she says before glancing towards Mendez and Zaylus.
Mendez nods, "There's a few details I'll fill you in on, but that pretty much sums it up, I think." he says.
Jason clasps his hands together and stares at them for a moment before raising an eyebrow, "Then... You know... Get the fuck out of here." he jokes, "I'm sure you've got better things to do than sit here and bother me." A smirk slowly crosses his lips.
Renala chuckles, smirking. "I'm standing and bothering you," she points out jokingly. "But yeah, I'll leave you to your struggles." A bob of her head towards the coffee machine follows.
Renala turns around and starts walking towards the entrance. "See you around," she says to the others with a glance over her shoulder.
Jason 's lopsided smirk grows as he slowly raises his middle finger at the asari. "Be careful out there." he calls out as she makes her exit.
Mendez watches as the asari and turian exit the building, but remains behind to fill Jason in on the details of their meeting with Quinn.
Renala is still grinning as she exits the room, walking the way back to the Respite instead of calling for a shuttle.
