#Miner'sRespite – February 18, 2015

This logfile is imported from aitelogs2 and may contain errors or wrong timestamps.

Jason is seated in a booth with his legs up on the bench, peering over the back of his seat to speak with a man in the next booth over. A pitcher of beer sits in the center of Jason's table, as well as a half-empty glass of beer right next to Jason. A plate of snacks sits beside the pitcher.

Ilyna enters the Respite, looking around. She still doesn't look particularly awake. She's dressed similarly as when she met Jason earlier the same day. She approaches the booth where Jason is and takes the seat across from him without much warning. "Hey," she says.

Jason pops a pretzel into his mouth and laughs loudly. "Oh, fuck off! Nos Astra has it this year. They should've had it last year. They were robbed." he shouts loudly. His conversation is obviously friendly in nature, as the man on the other side chuckles in turn and tells Jason to put his credits where his mouth is. Jason begins to say something when Ilyna shows up, and instead

waves the man off and quickly turns to face the asari, sliding his legs back under the table. "Hey, thanks for coming by on such short notice." he greets.

Ilyna nods. "It's no problem, I shouldn't sleep during the day anyway," she chuckles. "So, what it this about?" She reaches towards the snackbowl, lacking the decency to ask, and takes a piece. She inspects it for a moment before taking a tiny bite.

Jason puffs up his cheeks and blows out some air, looking almost uncomfortable with what he's about to ask. "So... I know you were just here to provide a bit of backup but-... Well, look Ilyna, I don't like having to ask you to do this, but we're down and out right now. Redrock is hurting for credits, so I'm just gonna toss this out..." He takes a deep breath and holds eye contact

with Ilyna, "I've got a good offer for a security contract. Like, very good. I can't just go out and lead a job myself right now with Vasquez in her current condition. I asked Renala, since it seemed like the sort of thing that'd be right up her alley, but she's gonna be out of commission for a while. The rest of my guys-..." he breaks eye contact for a moment, but quickly re-establishes

it, "I just don't trust them to get it done right. Will you head this one up for me? Obviously you'll be compensated."

Ilyna hums thoughtfully. "I'm... a little rusty, but I think I can still put up a good barrier," she says. "What is the job about, if I may ask?" She proceeds to eat the rest of the pretzel.

Jason gives a large, crooked smile and rubs his hands together. He reaches down beneath the table and pulls out a small bag, setting it on the table. He reaches in and removes a datapad. Setting it on the table, he slides it across to Ilyna. "Devin Tanner." he says. A name that would be familiar with anyone who keeps up with the entertainment industry. He's a young actor that appeared

in a recent ridiculously successful vid that has jumpstarted his career. "We're providing security detail for Devin Tanner during his trip to Aite."

Ilyna tilts her head. "I swear I've heard that name before," she says. "What's his business on Aite?"

Ilyna picks up the datapad and inspects its content.

Jason frowns. "Devin Tanner!" he repeats, reaching across the table and tapping at the datapad, "A Beautiful Shade of Blue? The Rick Clarkes vid?" he asks, sounding quite amazed at her lack of knowledge on the vid, "You know... Story about a guy. Meets this smokin' hot asari. I'm talkin, like, eleven out of ten. Ass you could take a bite out of, right? So, he meets her. Human dude,

asari, beautiful summer vacation on a beach. They find themselves in each other's eyes!" he says enthusiastically, almost as if he's re-experiencing it as he describes it, "There's... There's love! And passion! And the dude's parents are all like, 'No son of ours will be with a blue-skin!' but he's all, 'Fuck you, mom! I do what I want!' and-.... And-..." He grows uncomfortable and

reaches up to scratch at the back of his neck. "I've... Uhh.... I've never seen it, personally. Linda mentioned it, or something. Anyway, I guess he was a local boy. Has some family here on Aite."

The datapad displays a picture of a light skinned human with dark hair and a picture-perfect fake smile. His height, weight, and other vital statistics are displayed beneath the picture as well as a list of the vids in his short career. A short biography follows. The entire entry is undoubtedly copied and pasted from the GVDB (The 'Galactic Vid DataBase for those of you not in-the-know).

Ilyna chuckles. "Of course you haven't," she says, not sounding very convincing. "Oh, I have seen that one, and that one, aaand that one," she points to arbitrary entries on the list of vids. "And the one you... I mean, Vasquez told you all about." She can't help but smirk a little.

Jason nods sternly. "Vasquez." he repeats, a shade of red still visible in his cheeks, "So... He'll be on Aite for a couple days and his agent wants to hire us to make sure he's safe. The kid's family lives a short ways from Adrasteia. The credits his agent is offering us is well above and beyond what I would've asked for if he had came to us for an estimate on what it would cost. I

know there'll be a bit of travel, so we need a pilot. I've got Vicky on her way. If she can't commit to it, then I'll send Jasper with you. With the offer as it stands, we can afford to send a third person along without it cutting into the profits too much if you think it's needed." Jason reaches into the bag and produces a second datapad which he slides to Ilyna as well. "This will be

your rodeo. You do it however you see fit, Ilyna."

Victoria walked into the Respite wearing a t-shirt and long pants. She noticed Ilyna and Jason and walks over to them ''Yo guys, I got your message Jace.''

Ilyna picks up the second datapad, putting the other down on the table. "I can do this, I think," she says. "Is it known that he'll be traveling to Aite? If so, then getting another mercenary to stay on the safe side would be good idea." She looks towards Victoria. "Hello."

The second datapad contains a dossier on each current member of Redrock.

Jason gives a nod to Victoria. "Yeah, I have no idea. His agent should be here soon, though. Feel free to put him to the coals and find out whatever you can." he says to Ilyna before nodding towards the booth, "Take a seat, Vicky. Or, better yet, go get a couple glasses for yourself and Ilyna." He nods towards the pitcher of beer, "Have a drink."

Victoria takes a seat ''I rather not drink that awful thing our people have made.'' She looks at the beer and gives a clearly fake shiver ''Horrible drink.'' She stops being a fool and then put on a somewhat serious face ''So, what is happening?''

Suit yourself. More for me. So anyway, you're here because we've got a job lined up. We're being hired to provide a two-day security detail for Devin Tanner.

Jason waits for Victoria to acknowledge this, as if it's some huge ordeal. The excitement is plain as day on his face.

Ilyna pushes the other datapad towards Victoria, the one with the extranet copypasta about the film star. "We're going to make sure he has a safe stay on Aite," she says.

Victoria grabs the datapad ''Devin who?'' She looks over the datapad quickly ''Why is a film star coming here?'' She said outloud, when she meant to keep that in her head.

Ilyna tilts her head. "You... seriously don't know?" she says. "I know what we'll be watching when the base is built up again, then." She chuckles.

I don't know, Vicky. Not our business, really. All I know is he has family here. His agent let it slip that Tanner is actually from Aite, but everything on the extranet says he's a good ol' Earth boy.

Victoria shrugs ''Unless he is in a movie with explosions or guns, I won't know him.'' She said at Ilyna. ''Anything we are not meant to do while we are looking after him. Apart from keeping him alive and well.''

Jason blinks a couple of times. "No-... Wait-... Not meant to do? You're supposed to keep him alive. Not... Uhh.... not meant to keep him alive. I mean you ARE supposed to keep him alive. Not not mean-... This isn't an assassination, Vicky, it's a security detail. FUCK! Now I'm confused." he sighs and rubs at his forehead as he reaches for his drink and drains the rest of his

glass. "Just keep the kid alive."

Ilyna chuckles. "You're hopeless," she says with a smile. "I'll meet his agent soon, so I'll find out what we'll need to look out for, and if we need another mercenary."

Victoria looks at Jason with a teasing look then at Ilyna ''So Ilyna, is Jason here telling me I gotta keep him alive or kill him? Cause my boss over here is getting confused.''

Fuck it! Fuck it! Job is off! We're not killing Devin Tanner!

Jason frowns, although it should be obvious that he's not being serious.

Ilyna raises an eyebrow. "He said, Just keep the kid alive," she says. "What's confusing about that?"

''Well first he said, we are supposed to keep him alive. Then he said we ain't. Seems to me, he is losing his mind.'' It is clear that she was joking at this stage.

I never said we're not supposed to keep him ali-... Vicky! Concentrate!

Jason takes a deep breath and grumbles under his breath. "Ilyna is going to be calling the shots out in the field. Listen to her. I doubt there'll be anything to worry about, but if there is you can always send word back here for backup. Jasper is always on standby with our.... 'Aquired' secondary shuttle."

Ilyna nods. "How quick can he get backup to us if something were to happen?" she says. "My barrier won't last forever."

"So we are meant to just guard and protect him. Because that will be some easy work boss." She pauses for a second ''Also if he hits on me I am gonna slap him.''

Jason bites his lower lip for a moment as he does some math in his head. After a few silent moments pass, he gives a shrug. "I'unno." he admits, "I wouldn't count on us being able to show up to join in on a firefight. But if things got bad enough for any reason, we should be able to pull you guys out of the fire. Adrasteia is in a pretty unstable region, and that's the biggest danger

here. You should be fine, though." he says. Once done, he fixes a glare on Victoria and merely stares at her for a moment before responding to her. "You will not slap him. You understand? With the amount of money they're paying us, you can deal with it for a couple days. You don't even need to speak to the guy. He says something you don't like, smile and nod. Or, better yet, just

ignore it entirely."

"So don't be my witty self. Alrighty.'' She said.

Right. "Witty". Sure. As a matter of fact, don't be you at all. Be someone who won't fuck up our chance at future contracts with their agency.

Jason nods and smiles, apparently pleased with his wicked burn.

Ilyna chuckles. "I start to understand why you needed me to lead this job," she says, not sounding too serious. "I'll make sure she's nice to him."

Victoria sigh ''Jace, I ain't that much of an idiot. I can keep my mouth shut.''

Jason nods a couple of times. "I've got confidence in you, Vicky." he admits, "Just do what you can. This is our ticket to easy-street. Security for the stars. Over-paid and under-worked." he says, almost singing it like a slogan. He claps his hands together and slides out of the booth. "Well, I suppose that about covers it. I'll get out of your hair so you can have a talk with our

client without me stepping on your toes. He should be here in the next thirty minutes or so. Give me a status update and let me know how things are going." He reaches over and slides the bowl of pretzels closer to Ilyna and Victoria, "The pretzels are yours." he says as he scoops up the pitcher of beer and crudely takes a large swig right out of the pitcher, "But the beer is coming with

me."

Ilyna sighs. "Sounds too easy to be true," she says, "and knowing my luck... just keep the backup ready to go." She reaches out and picks up a pretzel. "I'll see you."

"So I'll clearly let Ilyna do that talking. See you around Jace."

Jason gives a slight tilt of his head. "Hey, everything can't blow up in our faces, right? You'll be fine. Oh! One last thing-..." he says, reaching into the bag one more time, he produces a small, unopened copy of 'A Beautiful Shade of Blue' and sets it on the table. "If you get the chance.... Get it autographed, yeah?" he asks before hastily adding, "For Vasquez. She'd... Uhh...

She'd love it."

"For Vasquez or Vasquez?" She said the second Vazquez like she was talking about a fake one.

Ilyna nods. "Of course," she says. "I'll make sure to give it to her afterwards too." Her tone is slightly unserious.

Jason begins to turn a bright red as he stares holes through Victoria. "Uhh, no... That's okay, Ilyna. Just give it to me. I'd really like to surprise her with it.Okay good luck." he says before quickly scooping up the empty bag and making his escape, bag in one hand and pitcher of beer in the other. "Nos Astra sucks!" the man that Jason was talking to from the next booth over shouts

as Jason walks by. "Go fuck yourself, old man. When Nos Astra kicks Port Hanshan's teeth down their throat, you're buying me a beer." Jason responds as he continues towards the stairs. The older man in the next booth over gives a friendly cackle.

Ilyna looks a little bit amused. "So, how have you been?" she says, trying to make conversation while waiting for the agent.

Victoria shrugs ''As good as one could be. Just looking after Va`ynna.'' She eats a pretzel ''How about you?''

I sat up all night doing just that, and Jason has interrupted me both times I've tried to sleep.

Ilyna brings a hand up to her forehead. "I'll try my best to look awake when the agent comes."

"What an ass that Jason. Keeping you awake, you should give him a biotic slap." She said in a joking tone.

Ilyna shrugs. "I volunteered to help out," she says with a sheepish smile. "So, I can't really be mad at him."

"Pfft, it is fun to be mad at Jason, because it is rather simple."

Well, then.

Ilyna picks up a pretzel. "Maybe it's you who has too much fun being mad than a problem with him." She splits the pretzel in two and eats one of the halves.

Victoria shrugs ''That or I enjoy annoying people.''

Kor Zil enters the Respite looking like a fat-as-fuck, short, metallic teddy bear in a dark brown pressurized suit with silver accents. He walks with a bit of a hobble, and approaches a table near the entrance. He fiddles with his hand uncomfortably and struggles to gain the patrons' attention as he glares up at them. It's obvious that bars aren't this volus' natural environment. After

a few moments without luck, he begins to waddle up towards the counter, his path taking him right past Victoria and Ilyna. He holds his arms out wide to allow them to clear his oddly-proportioned girth.

Making an exception for the bartender, then?

Ilyna notices the volus, but doesn't pay much attention to him.

Victoria blushed slightly ''I do enjoy her company.'' Notices the Volus, she then looks at Ilyna ''Did Jason say what the client looked like?''

Aylena walks over to the volus once he's near the bar counter. "Hello, welcome to our establishment," she says. "We don't get any of your sort out here, but I can check if we have anything safe to drink if you'd like."

Ilyna shakes her head. "He didn't," she says, "but it's still a while until he shows up if Jason was right about the time."

Kor Zil approaches the the bar and reaches up to put his hands on the edge of the counter. He considers attempting to climb atop a bar stool for a moment, but quickly abandons that course of action. His breather kicks in, causing a loud whoosh of air to be sucked in before it's forced outward. "That won't be neccessary." he says, followed by another whoosh, "I am here to meet with

Redrock Agency." he informs Aylena, the metallic tinge thick in his voice, "I believe the one I spoke to was of the Earth-clan. I may be too early." His sentence comes to a full stop with another heavy breath.

Victoria gives Ilyna a soft nudge ''I had a feeling this was our guy.'' She said so only she could hear.

Aylena gestures towards the booth where Jason sat. "Their boss sat over there just a moment ago," she says, "with the human and asari. They'll know who to talk to."

Ilyna nods. "Looks like it," she replies, also lowering her voice. "I'll do the talking, okay?"

Kor Zil rotates his entire body to look towards Vicky and Ilyna. He stares awkwardly for a moment, like a deer caught in the headlights, and then slowly hobbles back and forth on his legs to rotate in place and face Aylena once again. "Much appreciated, barkeep." he says, followed by another whoosh, "Can you tell me anything about their clan? Are they trustworthy?" Whoosh.

"Yeah, you can do the talking. Knowing me, I will say something stupid." She stops for a second ''All I shall say is 'I am Vicky'.''

Aylena nods. "I'd say so," she says. "They usually deliver much more than I pay for when things go wrong."

Kor Zil rotates his plump little body, once again, to face the pair in the booth. "Thank you. That will be all." he says, followed by the dense sound of his breather, "Your establishment is surprisingly clean." he adds awkwardly, as if that should be taken as some sort of compliment as he begins to hobble towards the booth, rhythmically stepping to the beat of his own drum. His own

slow, methodical drum.

Ilyna sits up straight as the volus approaches them, nodding in greeting.

Victoria sits up straight as well as the volus approaches.

Kor Zil stops once he reaches the table. "My apologies." he says, fidgeting with his hands once again as his breather whirs to life, causing him to pause his statement, "I'm aware that I am early. I hope this is not a problem. If so, I can come back-..." the whooshing of his breather cuts into his sentence, "...when it is closer to our scheduled time."

Ilyna smiles slightly. "It's no issue," she says. "I'm Ilyna T'Rea. I take it you are Mr. Tanner's agent?" She would extend her hand, but with Victoria between them, he is outside her reach.

Victoria smiles at the Volus, not saying a word.

Kor Zil bows forward slightly, "Yes, yes." he acknowledges, followed by another whoosh, "Kor Zil. Is a pleasure to meet with you, T'Rea." he says, extending a hand arbitrarily towards the two as a soft breath escapes his breather, "And you are?" he asks. It's impossible to tell who he's looking to, but one would assume it's probably Victoria.

Victoria goes to shake the volus' hand ''I am Victoria Steels.''

Kor Zil shakes Victoria's hand shortly and pulls his arm back. "Thank you for taking the time to meet with me." he says. He glances towards the booth opposite of the pair, but it's obvious that it would be an uncomfortable fit given his girth, and the distance afforded by the gap between the seat and the table. He could make it, but it would be tight. Kor pivots to his right, rotating

by stepping back and forth on his stubby legs, then rotates to his left. He takes a few steps towards an unoccupied table and grabs an empty chair by its back. He drags the chair over to the pair's booth and sets positions it at the end of the table. Another whoosh escapes his breather as he climbs into the chair. "I am thankful that you are willing to undertake such a task on short

notice." Whoosh, "I understand that Aite can be a rather dangerous place for those who can't take care of themselves. I would be beside myself if any harm were to come to Mr. Tanner."

Ilyna nods. "I'm aware," she says. "I'll be heading your client's security detail for his entire stay on Aite. She will be our pilot." She glances towards Victoria. "If you have any information about potential threats and the region he's headed to, that would be helpful."

Kor Zil shimmies back and forth in his seat somewhat to scoot against the backrest. "Nobody would want to hurt Mr. Tanner." he says. Whoosh. "He's a sweet boy. Would do anything for anyone." Whoosh. "He embodies the kindness and wide-eyed excitement of the Earth-clan. His family lives near Adrasteia." Whoosh. "I have heard that the area is known for its brutality. I merely want to ensure

that Tanner is able to enjoy his stay. I do have requests, however."

Victoria sits there silently

Ilyna nods, again. "I understand," she says. "I assure you he'll be in good hands. I can put up a strong barrier on a moment's notice should trouble find us." She pauses. "May I hear your requests?"

Kor Zil takes a few loud breaths before continuing. "Outside of his family, nobody knows of Tanner's arrival on your planet." Whoosh. "But understand, Tanner is a galactic star. It's very likely that things may change once he is here. His fans are very-..." Whoooooooosh. "Spirited. It would be bad publicity if it were to get out that he has family here. I see nothing wrong with your

planet, but the Earth-clan like to see one of their own in their vids." Whoosh. "Not someone born from the Terminus Systems. We also can't have him being spotted with armed thugs-...." He pauses and looks between the two, raising his hands apologetically as another loud breath escapes his breather, "Not that I believe you to be thugs. But the truth has a way of getting twisted in our

industry, you understand. As it is, visible weapons and armor could do damage to Tanner's image. He must remain as he is in the public eye." Whooooosh.

Ilyna nods. "I have picked up a magazine before, so I can see that happening," she says. "Would concealed weapons be acceptable? Given the nature of this world, even tabloid publications must know that's an understandable precaution."

Kor Zil shifts his head slightly, perhaps an attempt at a nod, "Of course." Whoosh. "I merely ask that it remain concealed unless no other option presents itself. Tanner's health is ultimately what's important. Just-..." Whoooooosh, "...use discretion."

I will. I'll talk to him when I meet him about what to pretend I am.

Ilyna chuckles.

Victoria remains silent

Kor Zil stares at the two for a few moments and places his hands flat against the tabletop as another loud whoosh is released. "I am pleased to hear it." Whoosh. "Do you have any other questions that I may answer, T'Rea?"

Ilyna looks thoughtful for a moment. "When does he arrive on Aite?" she says. "Aside from that, I don't really have any questions that I can't ask him."

Victoria 's omni-tool went off, from what anyone could tell it was an alarm. ''Ah, I forgot about this. I'm sorry Kor Zil and Ilyna, I should go back to the hospital to check up on Va`ynna.'' She stood up ''That is if I am no longer needed?'' She asked before she went anywhere.

Kor Zil gives another head movement, resembling the last. "He arrives at sixteen hundred hours, tomorrow. His departure is scheduled-..." Whoosh. "...Fifty hours later." The volus pats a hand across his chest as best as he can and removes a credit chit from a compartment before sliding it across the table towards Ilyna, although his arms aren't quite long enough to make the whole trip,

"This is linked to an account I have set up for you." Whooooosh. "It should be used to cover any expenses you may come across during Mr. Tanner's stay." he says.

Kor Zil glances over at Victoria, although it's impossible to read his expression through his helmet, and his metallic voice has no change or inflection that would imply offense. "It's not a problem, Ms. Steels." he says with another heavy breath, "I believe we are mostly done here." After a short pause he adds, "Steels is a strong name." It sounds as though it's merely an observation,

although the vibe the volus gives off was that it was a form of high praise.

Ilyna raises an eyebrow at first, then nods and leands forward to take the chit. "Thank you," she says. "I'll make sure to be there. I take it I'll get the exact location when he arrives?"

glances at Victoria. "Give her my regards," she says. "And my apologies that I can't stay at the hospital tonight... and neither should you."

Kor Zil lets out a loud metallic noise. It would take a moment to realize that it was a chuckle. "My apologies. He will be arriving here in Freedom Falls via your local-..." Whoosh. "...spaceport. Docking Bay 13."

"Will do Ilyna." She leaves after that.

Ilyna nods. "That's all I wanted to know for now, thank you," she says with a small smile. "I look forward to meeting him."

Kor Zil slowly begins climbing off his chair as he responds. "He is a delight." Whooooosh. "Your clan has my contact info, should a need arise to get in touch with me. I am entrusting-..." he pauses as another breath of air is sucked in and dispensed, "...you with a great responsibility. I believe you will live up to your end of the deal." The volus grabs the back of his chair and slowly

begins dragging it across the floor to return it to its previous location, causing a loud screetching noise to fill the air. He gets quite a few dirty looks from nearby patrons.

Ilyna smiles. "Thank you," she says. She does visibly wince at the chair being dragged, but shows no other reaction.

Kor Zil turns back to Ilyna and fidgets with his hands a bit once more. "It was nice to meet you-..." Whoooosh. "Miss T'Rea. Your kind are very supple." he adds, once again without lending any context to the statement. It comes across as a bit bizarre, although an obvious (If awkward) attempt at being nice. He moves on his way, lumbering towards the door and getting a bunch of strange

looks on his way out.

Ilyna raises her brows for a moment. "Uh, thanks," she says. "It was nice to meet you too." She remains in the booth for the time being.
