#Miner'sRespite – September 27, 2015
Vasquez enters the Respite, her clothes and hair still soaking wet despite the rainfall stopping. Her and Jason have spent a good amount of time sitting by the river, and then going for a walk together. Vasquez has been her most sociable in quite some time, happy to be back and wanting to bring as positive a mood as she can muster, but the underlying sorrow and guilt can only be masked
so well. Upon entering she has a tight grip of Jason's synthetic right hand, walking alongside him. A trail of water is left behind them, dripping off the two.
Jason has become more cheerful as they've spent the day together, happy to see her more positive. Finally. "So..." he begins, glancing over at Vasquez with a smirk, "...Still early enough in the day. How do you feel about getting out of these wet clothes and taking a trip to the new building?" He scrunches up his nose, "...After getting into... Uhh... Other clothes." he coughs, "Of
Vasquez smirks as they head for the stairs. "Yeah. Sure. Need to make sure you didn't screw up the floor plan while I was gone."
Jason gives her a playful scowl. "Hey, I managed to pull things together pretty well, if I do say so myself." he says, grabbing the railing with his free hand as they head up the stairs, "I think you're gonna be impressed."
Vasquez rolls her eyes as they proceed up the stairs, giving him a playful shove. She does genuinely seem to be in a relatively good mood. When they reach the corridor she heads for the door, stopping with a frown, finger hovering over the control pad. A moment passes. And another. She does not enter the code, still scowling at the keypad.
Jason takes a position behind Vasquez and places his chin on her shoulder, watching as she studies the keypad. After a few moments, he reaches over her shoulder and slowly pokes at the keypad, purposely giving a pause between each press so she can see the new code. "Not that it matters." he says, "We won't be here much longer."
Vasquez lets out a faint frustrated grunt, stepping into the room and immediately starting to take her boots off, struggling a bit since she doesn't want to sit down to avoid soaking the furniture.
Jason follows her inside, wasting no time in wrestling his way out of his soaking wet shirt. He struggles a few times as it gets stuck on his cybernetics, but eventually manages to get it off. "I'll call the shuttle." he says, tossing the soaking wet shirt onto the floor, old habits dying hard and all. He quickly snaps his gaze onto Vasquez, hoping she won't notice his sloppiness as
Vasquez is blissfully ignorant of Jason's continued sloppiness as she manages to take her boots off, one of them flying out of her grasp. She grunts and then pulls off her tanktop, scrunching it up and then pulling down her Cerberusy pants, stepping out of them and scooping them up as well. She goes to the bathroom to put it in the laundry basket, which is presumably full of the built-up
Jason follows her into the bathroom, smooshing down the pile of clothes with his shirt. He fishes his omni-tool from his pocket and begins to unbutton his pants as he haphazardly removes his boots by simply stepping on the back of each heel and tugging them off. He kicks wildly a few times as he removes his pants, spreading a bit of water about, and then yanks them free with his hands
and slaps the sloshing pants onto the top of the laundry basket. He steps back out of the bathroom and begins poking at his omni-tool as the haptic interface projects in front of him. "They'll be picking up the rest of our stuff to bring it over to the new building tomorrow morning." he says as he sends out for the shuttle.
Vasquez moves up behind Jason, wrapping her arms around his waist and planting a kiss on his neck and then putting her chin on the man's shoulder much like he did earlier, giving him a hug as she looks at the omni-tool interface as well. "Alright, sounds good."
Jason allows the interface to dissipate and tosses the device onto the bed. "Should be here shortly." he announces, reaching down and resting a hand over hers. Her tilts his head to the side and gives her a peck on the cheek, struggling to crane his neck enough to do so. "Still quite a bit of supplies that need to be ordered before we're back at one-hundred percent."
Vasquez slowly lets go off Jason, moving over to the dresser, stripping off wet underwear and putting on new before taking her only pair of simple pants and then her favorite old Eezo Credits concert t-shirt, which is black with print and a bit on the large side, hanging loosely. "I'm guessing the VI isn't installed yet?"
Jason frowns. "Do we need a VI?" he asks with a sigh, certainly not copping some looks. He waits his turn before going through his drawer and removing a pair of black cargo pants. He sniffs them once to make sure they're clean before digging out a pair of boxers, a grey long-sleeved shirt and repeating the process. Since getting his replacement arms, long-sleeved shirts seem to have
become his go-to for shirtwear. He begins replacing his clothes, visibly slowing down when it gets to his shirt. He carefully pulls it on, one sleeve at a time as he attempts to keep from getting it snagged on anything.
Vasquez grabs a hairbrush and seats herself on the edge of the bed after finishing with putting on her clothes, sutdying the complicated process of Jason putting his shirt on. At first she's smirking faintly, but it fades after a little bit. She sighs to herself. "Yes. Of course we need a VI. To run the base defenses, to keep track of paperwork, to man the reception desk..." She brushes
Jason manages to get his shirt on eventually and tugs it into place, adjusting it in spots. He sighs and gives a shrug. "Fine." he says, "But I'd like to go on record as not liking this. When the VI goes insane and turns our defenses against us, don't say I didn't warn you."
Jason gives a shake of his head as he collects his boots from the bathroom floor. "Uh huh." he says, taking a seat beside her as he begins to put them back on, "You say that now... I just don't trust them! Why can't Renala handle that stuff?" he continues to argue, somewhat joking. Somewhat.
Vasquez rolls her eyes, continuing to brush her hair as she speaks. "Well... not that I doubt her capabilities, but I'm pretty sure she can't aim several turrets at once. While simultaneously filing paperwork. Or... stay awake 24/7." She shrugs lightly. "It'll be fine, Jason. You'll learn to get along with it."
Jason stands from the bed once he's all set and makes his way across to the door, leaning against the wall beside it as he waits for her to finish. "Whatever you say." he sighs. "Speaking of Renala... I let her sort of run the show when it came to security. Figured she was better suited. I'll have her give us a rundown of everything once we're settled in."
Vasquez nods, standing up and putting the hair brush away in the dresser. "Alright, that works." She grabs a hair-tie, putting up her ponytail and then looking around as she realizes something. "My pistol..."
Jason gives a slight shrug. "Put it on the list of gear we need to replace." he says. He gives a nod towards his holstered Phalanx sitting on the table, "If it'll make you feel more comfortable, you can carry mine until we get yours replaced."
Vasquez grabs the Phalanx, attaching it and the holster plate to her belt. She offers an appreciative smile to Jason as she heads for the door. "Thanks. Only planet I ever felt safe on without a gun was Mars."
Jason taps the door's panel and steps outside, "I expect that back when we get you a new one." he says with a smirk, "That's my baby." He heads back towards the stairs once she exits the room.
Vasquez walks down the stairs alongside Jason, shaking her head to herself. "Mhm... and mighty it is." After a brief pause she asks. "...did you use the Confetti Maker?"
Jason gives a nod. "One of the perks of the new arms." he says, bending his right arm at the elbow, "Handling it wasn't much of a problem. I might even be willing to negotiate a trade..." he says, casting a glance down at the Phalanx holstered on her belt, his smirk growing a bit wider.
Vasquez cocks an eyebrow at this comment. "Uh-huh... think I'll skip." Her smile, lost when studying Jason's arms actually returns, and she puts her arm around him as they descend the stairs and head for the exit.
Jason gives a shrug. "Can't blame me for trying..." he mutters wrapping an arm around her in turn. As they exit, the shuttle is pulling up. "...Besides. I'm thinking we shouldn't have too much need for weapons anytime soon." he glances over at the woman, "Might be time we consider taking a little break from field work..."
Vasquez sighs, her gaze following the shuttle as it lands. "Maybe. Not... sure we can afford that right now though. We're gonna need to work hard for Redrock to recover. Considering how many are injured I may need to lead the next mission personally."
Jason frowns and runs a hand up his side where his wound is. "I'm feeling fine." he says, "Just a few grazes. Nothing to worry about. You need to take some time to recover." He opens the shuttle door, "You've been through a lot."
Jason frowns as he climbs in beside her and gives their destination quickly. "I don't mean anything by it." he says, noting her silence, "I just don't think you should be going back out so soon. Take time to get back into a routine, you know? There's a lot of work to be done around here anyway..."
Vasquez leans her head back against the headrest with a sigh, closing her eyes. "Jason, I-... I need to prove the team can rely on me. Regain their trust. If that's even possible..."
Jason waves her off with a gesture of his hand as the shuttle takes off. "There's nothing to prove." he says, "They know the score. Plenty of them put their life on the line to bring you home. They wouldn't have done that if they didn't trust you, Linda."
Vasquez shakes her head. "Come on, Jason... I'm not even sure I trust myself right now. I doubt anyone else does. After what happened... how can I expect them to?"
Jason glances away from Vasquez, looking out the window. "Then... Do you really think it's a good idea to just jump right back in?" he asks, trying his best to pick his words to not hurt her feelings, "Leading a team means taking their lives into your hand. I just think you need to be sure of yourself-... of everything before you take that step. You know?"
Vasquez looks out her own window, not responding right away. After flying silently all the way until the base is in view she finally replies: "Maybe. I just... need to show them that I'm up for this. They need to be confident in my ability to lead them. To look out for them. Right now I think most of the team just knows me as the nutjob pulled a gun on Briggs... and left you all behind."
Jason doesn't exactly feel comfortable with the idea. He struggles with it for a few moments before reaching over and patting her hand. "Okay." he says, forcing a small smile, "If you think this is what you need and that it will help..." he shrugs and nods, "We'll make it happen."
Victoria walks down into the Respite's bar area from the stairs. She is wearing a white shirt and long pants, and walks towards bars.
Kanaya approaches the new arrival. "Evening," she says. "What can I do for you?" The asari bartender is dressed in a close-fitting navy blue dress with red trims.
Va'ynna emerges from the staff-only area, carrying two plates of food. She puts it on a tray below the counter and taps on a terminal to notify the patron. Upon spotting Victoria, she gives her a nod before making her way to the back again. The asari is wearing a dark-blue shirt and simple black pants, and a white apron.
Kanaya returns the smile as she picks up a glass. "That's all?" she asks. She walks over to the nearest tap and pours a glass before putting it on the counter in front of her.
Victoria nods "Yeah, the glass of water is all for now." Vicky takes a quick sip of the water "You a new bartender here? Don't believe I have seen you around."
I'm running this place while Aylena is off doing whatever it is she's up to. I shouldn't really be bartending, though, but it gets boring sitting in the office all day.
Victoria nods "Sounds fair enough. My name is Victoria by the way." She decided to introduce herself.
Va'ynna returns through the door -- without the apron this time --, and makes her way around the bar. She takes a seat beside Victoria, "Hey"
Va'ynna returns the smile. "There are no... food orders right now, so I could take a break," she says. "How are you?"
"I am alright, just getting out of the room for a while." She picks up her water and drinks some of it "Also having a water instead of rum."
Va'ynna tilts her head. "You're... still on call if someone in the agency needs to be shuttled somewhere?" she asks
Victoria smirks "I know right? Must be the end of the world or I am just an impostor." She clearly joked.
Va'ynna looks her over with narrowed eyes. "You... look real," she says. "So... it must be the end of the world, then."
"Or I could be the good clone of Victoria Steels. You will never know." She wiggled each one of her fingers and leaned back a little.
Va'ynna leans in and gives her a quick kiss on the cheek, followed by a hum. "You're... a convincing enough clone... if that's the case," she says.
Victoria kisses the asari back on the cheek "Good, good my plan is working then." She said with a smile.
"Well, when is your break tomorrow? Cause I believe we should have lunch somewhere." She mentions to the asari "Or we could go out for dinner."
Va'ynna hums thoughtfully. "After... lunch time until early evening," she says. "There's... no exact times, but if we... go out early, we can have dinner before I have to get back to work."
Va'ynna nods. "I'd prefer to go out," she says. "You... know that I will be at work when dinner service open here, right?" Her omni-tool beeps, and she sighs. "Speaking of, I... should get back to work."
Victoria downs the rest of her water "Yeah, I think I will go take a walk." She gives the asari a kiss on the lips "Something to get you through the day." She says with a smile.
Va'ynna returns the kiss, and gives a quick hug before she stands up. "I'll... see you later tonight," she says.
Va'ynna walks around the bar, and heads through the door to the back. She casts a glance back at VIctoria before disappearing through the doorway.
