Skipping Work #3

Uvena nods in agreement. "We should outnumber them," she says, "which means we can afford to let go of opportunities to fire until we know for certain whether Va'ynna is in the same room."

Renala pays little attention to the conversations around her while working on the omni-tool.

Jasper spins around in his seat, head poking out into the small hall from the cockpit. His eyes narrow into slits as he glares at Sioria. After a few moments of charged silence, he opens his mouth to speak. "I'm gon' pretend I didn't hear that." he says, holding her gaze a little longer before turning back to the console.

Jason takes a seat beside Uvena, setting his helmet in his lap and raising his forearm to send the new coordinates from his omni-tool to Jasper. Once finished, the glowing device dissipates and he glances over to Renala. "So how does this work?" he asks. "We send that 'signing key' and-... then what? What do they see? How will they be able to contact us?"

Mendez finishes up with his harness before taking his helmet off and setting it down beside him silently. Quietly praying for a calm trip.

Victoria remains silent in her seat for a moment. "We got two biotics, right?" Nodding her head towards both asari "We can take neutralise two of the three. Give them even less reason to fight with only one active enemy for them."

Renala shakes her head. "The key will never leave our hands," she says. "We broadcast a beacon telling anyone nearby where we are, and include a signature on that broadcast using the key. If all goes to plan, they'll verify it with a related key and contact us."

Uvena nods, again. "Of course we do," she replies. "I can put a stasis field on one of them so our sharpshooter can line up a shot, but we'll need an unobstructed line of sight for that to work."

Jason frowns, looking slightly confused. "I-.... But why would we want them to contact us? Once they realize we're not Taro, won't they just cut all communication?" he asks. "Is there any way we can keep this to an omni-tool message?" he continues, giving a nod towards Taro's omni-tool. As he hears Victoria, he glances her way and gives a slight nod, "These people are extortionists.

I'm not chancing V's life on them possibly giving up. Expect a fight. But anything that might turn the odds more in our favor is a good thing." he agrees.

Jasper lifts the shuttle skywards, rising above the treeline of the nearby forest before starting towards the coordinates sent by Jason- east of Erantha.

Mendez remains silent, having nothing to add to the current conversation.

Renala hums thoughtfully. "Yes," she says. "Any device can do this kind of broadcast. If I get into it in time, I'll have the message sent."

All three of the Avoren people are on the roof, but none have picked up the missile launchers.

Victoria looks at Jason for a moment "Then I have a idea that will hopefully let me in close to them. That is if you will pay any attention to it."

Jason gives Renala a nod in response before looking back to Victoria. "Alright..." he says, cocking an eyebrow, "...Let's hear it."

"Well, they did not see me in my armor. They have probably not seen most of us in our armor." She stops for a second "If we have Taro's omni-tool, we can send that team of theirs a message as Taro. Saying that he has lined up slavers to buy Vay, they buy it and we get in easier and deal with them easier."

Jason considers it for a moment before giving a slight shake of his head. "That relies on too much foresight about how they've interacted together beforehand. All we know right now is that they planned on ransoming V back to Uvena for a large sum of credits. What that means is that this could be just as much about revenge for our previous run-in with these people as it is about the

credits- we did kill one of their people not too long ago. It's a good fallback plan depending on how they respond when we transmit the key, but I don't want to do anything that might unknowingly seem out of character for these people beyond what we have to do."

Victoria gives a shrug "Just an idea to go with, if we have nothing else." She states with little emotion.

Jason gives a nod, "We'll keep it in the back pocket for now. Never hurts to have a fallback plan." His gaze shifts back to Renala, nodding to the device in her hands, "So what's the word? Think you'll be able to get it working? Or do some sort of-... nerd wizardry or something so we can broadcast the key from it and send a few messages or whatever?"

Renala nods. "Most of the internals seems intact, but I need to opreate it remotely," she says. "Give me a minute or two and I'll be ready to send out a message to this batarian."

Sounds good. Keep it simple and let him know you'll be broadcasting the-... beacon... thing... key..... majig.... soon. Whatever we can do to maintain our cover until we're right up their ass is another check in the win column, I think.

Renala chuckles and gives a quick and half-hearted salute with her left hand. "Will do, boss," she says.

They leave Linissa without any trouble from the remaining merccs. Snow is starting to fall again and there is some noticable wind. Properly working inertial dampeners will have no trouble with the wind, however.

Uvena leans back in her seat, remaining quiet.

Jasper continues towards the coordinates, checking readouts and such as he continues. "Dang snow is startin' up again! Can't seem ta' get away from the stuff an' winter is jus' beginnin'! Gonna be a cold one!" he announces to nobody in particular.

Victoria decides to just sit there and remain silent until everything is ready.

Jason takes the moment of respite from fighting to sit back in his seat, resting a hand atop the helmet in his lap. He lets out a deep breath as he leans his head back against the shuttle wall. "I'll feel a whole lot better when this whole ordeal is over..." he says, "...Definitely not the sort of day I expected to wake up to."

Uvena sighs. "It was going to be a good day too," she mutters.

Renala looks over at Jason. "I'm ready to start the broadcast," she says. "On your order."

Jasper is rapidly approaching the coordinates and begins lowering the shuttle and slowing the pace. "Jus' 'bout there, Jason!" he calls back.

Jason glances towards the cockpit briefly before settling his gaze on Renala. "Do it." he instructs before giving a shout up to Jasper, "Just set us down nearby until we hear back, Jasper. Shouldn't be too long." He shifts forward a bit, readying himself mentally for the fight to come.

The area the message's directions lead them to is an open field with farmsteads that can be seen in the distance on all sides. The town itself is to their south and there is a forest to the north-east.

Renala nods and starts composing a message. "Anything in specific I should include?" she asks while in the middle of typing.

Jason lowers his gaze to the ground as he considers it for a moment. "Maybe something along the lines of making sure that Khorranak is ready to move the asari...?" he asks, looking for feedback. "The goal is just to establish familiarity. So something simple that sells the fact that we are Taro without setting off too many red flags. No reason to push it too hard."

Renala nods, and continues typing for another ten seconds. "Translated and sent," she says.

Now we just play the waiting game...

Mendez shifts in his seat. Despite the relatively calm flight, he's still showing signs of discomfort in the shuttle. "How long should this take?" he asks.

Jasper sets the shuttle down in the field, but keeps it running.

Victoria can be seen shifting in her sit, while remaining silent.

Renala frowns. "He wants to know how the attack went," she says, seeming to have gotten a message despite the lack of a notification sound. "Should I tell him the threat was empty?"

Jason gives a nod. "Sounds like the best bet." he says. "Hopefully he wasn't able to get a message out during the attack that contradicts it.... You would've found something if that was the case, right?"

Renala shakes her head. "It's entirely possible he doesn't store sent messages," she says. "It's unlikely, but I also didn't see a response to the message we got the key from." She types up a response while waiting for Jason to respond.

Jason sighs, gripping his helmet with one hand and setting it beside him. "Well, there's not much we can do about that. Send it and we'll see how they respond."

Renala nods and taps once. "Sent."

Mendez grunts, still messing with his harness uncomfortably. "If they don't buy it, that's our only lead down the drain..."

Jason frowns at Mendez. "We can't worry about that right now. This is our only option. Let's just hope it works..." he says, giving an apologetic glance to Uvena.

Renala taps on her omni-tool again fifteen seconds later, sending the directions to the shuttle's computer. "Looks like it's somewhere in that forest," she says. "I've turned off the broadcast," she says.

The directions that appears on the map wants the shuttle to make a east-north-east beeline over the forest and a descending left turn about half a mile into it.

Uvena nods, but doesn't say anything.

Jasper begins to slowly lift the shuttle off. "Ain't gon' be more than a couple a' minutes. Seems ta' be jus' over yonder." he calls back as the shuttle ascends over the field, making towards the forest.

Jason unharnesses himself and stands up, taking his helmet with him. "You heard him, people. If they're not onto us, they certainly will be when we hop out of this shuttle. If they're looking for a fight, pick your shots carefully. V's safety is our primary concern." he says, gripping a handhold with his free hand as he slips his helmet back on. As he clasps it in place, a metallic

tinge coats his voice, "Let's get her out of there."

Mendez lets out a deep breath as he starts to unharness himself, already starting to feel sick at the thought of standing in the moving shuttle.

There appears to be a path carved into the forest from the south, but snow would cover a road if there was one. The coordinates lead to a clearing up ahead.

Uvena stands up in turn and grips a handhold. "One thing's for certain, the captors aren't getting out of this alive," she says. "No matter what happens."

Jason sighs as he glances over at Uvena, but nods nonetheless. These people certainly didn't deserve better...

Renala disables her omni-tool and puts Taro's on the vacant seat next to her. She stands up and grabs the handhold.

Jasper navigates the shuttle towards the clearing. "Comin' up on our target!" he calls back, "I ain't seein' much. Looks like a path, but no sign of our friends. I'll set 'er down."

Victoria unharness herself from her seat, and draws her phaeston getting it ready for the attack.

Sioria looks out the view port and hums to herself. "This'll be interesting." she says, quietly. "hey Jasper, see any good vantage points around here?"

A small building comes into view as they get very close to the clearing, and half of it has been reduced to barely more than the foundation. The windows that remain are boarded over and the outer walls are of concrete. There is a sloped roof, with large holes leading into an empty attic with some missing floorboards. Nobody appears to be outside or otherwise visible to the approaching shuttle. The provided directions points the shuttle to a

sky-car shaped patch of land that has less snow than its surroundings. The designated landing zone is about 60m/200ft away from the building and there is no cover to use for their approach. The building is about 20m/65ft east of the closest treeline, which is the only real cover. However, the two walls facing the treeline has only one boarded-over window each and no doors.

Jasper shouts back, "Got a buildin' up ahead! Looks like that's prolly where our friends are holdin' up!" A short pause follows before he adds, "I can drop ya off near the treeline, but that's the best yer' gon' get, Felcolus!"

Mendez finishes with his harness and climbs back to his feet, quickly sealing his helmet back in place before grasping a handhold. "Not much cover for our approach." he says plainly as he studies the surrounding landscape.

Sioria nods towards the cockpit. "Good enough for me. Plenty of tall trees. Time to put my climbing skills to the test."

Jason nods slowly to Mendez as he attempts to formulate a plan. "We'll bring the shuttle in close on the west of the shuttle after dropping Sioria off near the treeline so she can keep us covered. Me and Renala will enter from the ground floor. If Jasper can keep this thing stable, you-..." he glances to Uvena, "...and Vicky should be able to hop right into the attic and we can hit them

from two angles. Jasper will set our ride down out front and Mendez can stay with the shuttle to keep our escape route clear." He glances around at the others, "Sound like a plan?"

Jasper snorts loudly. "If? Piece a' cake! This ol' girl is steady as can be!"

Victoria gives a nod to Jason "Understood boss." She said in a emotionless tone, clear that she was trying to hide her emotions.

Uvena nods. "I'll focus on finding Va'ynna's location while I'm up there," she says. "Knowing that would make breaching less of a risk."

Renala still holds onto the handhold. "Got it," she says. "I doubt this place has any functioning tech, so I won't bother with that. Maybe when the hostiles are dealt with and Twitches is secured."

Jasper drops the shuttle in low near the treeline, opening the door for Sioria to disembark.

Sioria hops on out and heads right for the treeline. She quickly finds the tallest tree around and climbs it.

Uvena stares at the other asari for a few seconds but her attention quickly returns to the work.

Victoria just gives Renala a look for a few moments and shakes her head. She could not really deny that remark but probably better to use that nickname at a later time.

Jason frowns at the nickname from behind his helmet, but thinks better than calling her out on it given their present situation. He merely grips the handhold tightly and awaits their arrival.

Jasper gives a shout of "Be safe!" as Sioria exits the shuttle and closes the doors. The large shuttle hovers for a few moments as it reorients its nose towards the building and sets off in that direction.

Sioria gets to the best vantage point in her tree and lowers her visor. "You too..." she mutters, though not over comms. "Alright, I'm in position. Building's pretty... sniper-unfriendly. Boarded windows, the works."

Mendez continues to grip the handhold, swaying slightly in place. "Just keep your eyes open. If we're lucky, maybe they're dumb enough to come storming out and you can end this before they have a chance to do any damage." he responds over comms.

Sioria nods slowly and readies her rifle. "As soon as those ugly bastards show their faces... they're losing 'em." she says. "Shoot to kill all targets except V."

Renala sighs, but remains silent while she waits for the shuttle to arrive.

The western side of the building has one window near the corner to the south wall, and the wall cuts off before the halfway point of where it should have been judging by the foundation. The roof above, near the corner has a hole large enough for someone to jump through.

There is still no activity seen outside the building.

Jasper comes in low, opening the shuttle door as they near the building. "I'll lift 'er up so the others can get in through the roof once ya'll are out, Jason!" he calls back.

Victoria stands up and prepares herself for her exit.

Jason glances over to Renala as the shuttle comes to a stop, hovering just above the ground. He releases his handhold and hefts the large machinegun from his back before hopping out of the Kodiak. As his boots touch the ground, he raises his Revenant, sweeping back and forth as he moves towards the southern corner, mindful of the window as he moves. "Keep that window covered, Sioria."

he instructs over comms.

Sioria nods. "Solid copy, watching the window." she responds. "Watching for anything but purple..."

Renala lets go of the handhold and draws her Locust before hopping out of the shuttle. She starts moving towards the other corner.

There is no reaction from inside the window to Jason walking past it.

Jasper leaves the shuttle doors open as the Kodiak lifts up slowly. Once they're just above the hole in the roof, he holds it in place. The Kodiak rocks slightly, but for the most part Jasper is keeping it fairly steady. "Watch yer' step!"

Mendez swallows hard as the swaying only works to upset his stomach even more.

Jason stacks up at the southern corner, pausing for a moment before swinging out and scanning the south side of the building, his gaze following his Revenant.

Uvena lets go of the handhold and hops off the shuttle, landing on the floor just inside the hole. "I don't like the sound the floor just made," she says over comms before she starts walking further into the room with quiet steps. "Be careful."

Renala takes cover at the other corner, peeking around it with her weapon drawn.

Victoria hops off the shuttle and lands on the floor just inside the hole, she raises her weapon and start scanning for targets. She follows further into the room with caution.

(Inside) Uvena must have been onto something, as just when Victoria lands on the attic floor, a Katana shotgun is fired off and the combined stress on the decaying wood makes it break under her. The fall to the floor below has her land right ontop of a crouched armored batarian aiming his shotgun at the ceiling. He tries pushing her off him and getting to his feet.

(Southern wall) There is a window about a third of the way to the next corner, but not much else to see.

Renala gets on the comms. "There's a doorway on this wall, but it's blocked like the windows are."

Jason keeps his Revenant raised as he proceeds along the southern wall towards the window. "I've got a window on my side. You take the door, I'll take this window. Breach on my mark-..." he says before the shotgun round grabs his attention. "Report. I'm hearing shots fired." he adds as he stacks up beside the window and presses a gauntleted hand against it, pressing it softly to test

just how much force he's going to need to apply to knock it off the window.

Jasper sets the shuttle back down where they let out Jason and Renala once the others have disembarked, leaving the shuttle doors open.

Mendez hops out of the shuttle once it touches down, eager to get on stable ground once again. He shoulders his shotgun but remains beside the shuttle, keeping the escape route clear for the others.

(Bedroom) The room below the new attic hatch has a desk with a datapad on it, a bed that's been raised and stacked against the wall towards the north. There are a few flattened carboad boxes and a fair share of debris on the floor. Three sleeping bags are rolled up and stoved in the corner between the windows. Their captive is not held in this room.

Uvena turns around and starts making a few careful steps towards the hole. "The floor collapsed under Victoria," she says over comms. "Moving closer to check on her."

Victoria is thankful for flooring beneath her taking most of the shotgun blast, allowing her shields to remain, but she is not thankful for them breaking under her and falling on top of a batarian. She lost her hold on her phaeston landing a few feet away from her, she begins to throw punches at the batarian head.

Renala starts moving towards the barricade, applying a warp field to it to weaken the material. "Are we still breaching on your mark?" she asks over comms.

The barricades gives slightly to the push of the gauntlet implying that the wood is not very thick.

Jason remains near the window, holding his Revenant by the top handle in his left hand. "Report, Vicky. Are you okay!?" he asks, the concern clear in his voice. As Renala chimes in, he nods to himself, feeling the need to pick up his pace given Victoria's situation. "Absolutely." he responds, "Mark!" He slams a fist against the barricade, aiming to punch straight through it with his

synthetic arm, grab it and tear it off the window.

(Inside) The batarian grabs her arms to stop the punches, but that leaves him unable to climb to his feet. "Dolern, get in here and shoot her." A salarian pops peeks out from the doorway on the east-side of the room, and fires off a few careful Locust bursts towards Victoria. The window barrier is successfully punche through and Jason ends up with a decent chunk of it in his hand. The remaining pieces of barricade are broken off and fall out

in the process. He'll be able to see Victoria through the window.

Renala uses a biotic throw to breach it, sending pieces of now porous wood boards into the empty hallway. She takes cover by the door frame and peeks inside. "There's a salarian in the hallway," she reports over comms. "No signs of Atana in here, though."

Jason uses his free hand to clear the rest of the debris from the window before hopping through it, snapping his Revenant up the moment he's inside and scanning around. "Drop it!" he orders as he spots the salarian, finger hovering over the trigger. If the salarian fails to comply, he'd send a controlled burst of fire towards him, center mass.

Victoria starts throwing knees into the batarian's royal jewels to weaken his hold on her. Her shields barely hold up after taking the burst from the locust. "Fighting a... batarian with fists... Someone is... shooting... kill 'em." She speaks over the comms her main focus on the batarian who is holding her.

Uvena walks away from the hole as there's little she can do with Victoria ontop of the hostile. She starts looking for holes to peek through in hopes of finding Va'ynna's position.

(Bedroom) The batarian is not affected by her knee kicks, and he attempts to headbutt her while holding her arms. The salarian's attention is drawn somewhere else right before a bitoic throw sends him crashing into the wall at the end of the corridor.

Renala starts walking into the corridor, weapon drawn. "He doesn't seem to be getting up," she says over comms between panting breaths. "I'm not sure if it killed him, though."

(Outside) A green sky-car might be spotted flying out over the treeline to the south, about half a mile from the building. Sioria has spotted it and notified the others over comms.

Jason cusses softly under his breath. "Keep eyes on it, Sioria. If it looks like more hostiles coming to join the fight, put 'em down." he orders as he rushes over to assist Victoria, leveling his Revenant at the wrestling pair. "Renala, keep eyes on the salarian, make sure he's controlled!" he says, keeping his finger off the trigger, lest he miss and hit Victoria. He nods towards the

batarian, "Alright, asshole, hands to yourself! You're surrounded. This fight is over!"

Victoria takes the headbutt and is dazed for a brief moment but quickly shakes it off. "Oh, you wanna start with that shit?" She reels her head right back and returns his headbutt with one that allows her to build up speed and power to put behind it.

Mendez takes cover near the shuttle, keeping watch in the direction of the green sky-car as indicated by Sioria.

(Bedroom) The batarian does not follow Jason's order. Instead he pushes her away while she's in the middle of swinging her head at him. "Dolern!" he shouts. "Stop slacking and kill him." There is some locust fire in the hallway and the salarian falls limp, omni-tool still glowing around his arm after freezing a spot on the other door.

Renala sighs. "Salarian almost hit me with a cryo blast," she reports. "He's not a problem anymore."

Jason squeezes the trigger of his Revenant once the batarian has pushed Victoria away and he's no longer in danger of hurting her. "You had your chance!" he shouts as he fires a burst into the batarian.

Victoria is thrown off mid head swing and is left a little confused, she sees the batarian next to her and draws her predator unleashing the whole clip into him

(Outside) The sky-car sets down next to where it was apparantly parked earlier, and an asari steps out of it. She's of sky-blue skin with faint black markings, and is wearing a long red coat. There is a holstered pistol at her side, but she doesn't draw it. She starts running towards the building. Sioria has undoubtedly conveyed this to the team.

(Bedroom) The batarian is easily shot dead by the point blank fire from two angles. He lies limply ont he floor.

Victoria quickly gathers herself and reloads her predator. She stands up and collects her phaeston "Go take care of that bitch, Jason." She was still trying to gather herself after falling through the roof and fighting a batarian.

Jason glances to Victoria. "You alright? Check your weapon and look for V." he says, "Me and Renala will handle the new threat." He turns on his heels and moves towards Renala, casting a glance at the dispatched salarian. "Good job." he congratulates, "But you heard Sioria. We've got another incoming. Take defensive positions and get ready to take her down if she tries anything." He

pauses before adding over comms, "Mendez, stay with the shuttle. If we need you, I'll let you know."

Mendez responds quickly, "Copy."

Renala raises her weapon on the door. "Got it," she says.

(Hallway) There is a boarded shut window opposite the other door in the hallway, near what little remains of the barricade Renala breached through. The entrance door is opposite the boodroom doorway. The doors have an electronic lock, but the opening mechanism is a manual one using two hinges.

Victoria holsters her phaeston and keeps her predator out. "Uvena, you seen her yet?" She asks over comms as she makes her way out of the bedroom.

(Outside) The asari stops right outside the door and starts walking along the wall, past the small hole in the window boards. "Aralan? Fenko? What's going on?"

Uvena starts walking back towards the hole Victoria fell through, as there's no hatch or ladder to get down with. "Negative," she says. "I didn't find any holes in the floor above the other room. She might be there."

"Lets just getting looking around here on this floor." She begins to look for a door that might led to Va'ynna.

(Hallway) There is an unlocked door in the hallway that has not yet been searched, opposite the boarded window.

Jason steps into the hallway with Renala, raising his Revenant on the door. "We're not giving her a chance to act." he says softly, nodding towards the door as he slowly begins to stalk up to it. Once beside the door, he steps outside, attempting to sidestep far enough from the building for Renala to follow, sighting his Revenant on the asari as soon as she comes into view. "They're

dead." he says as he spots her, "You don't need to suffer the same fate. We're just here for the asari you grabbed. Don't do anything stupid." he instructs, his finger hovering just over the trigger of his machinegun, "We've got a sniper on you and more people inside. There's no way out of this."

Victoria goes to open the door to see if Va'ynna is inside, she keeps her pistol facing the ground while she does this.

Renala follows, also aiming her weapon at the asari.

(Outside) The asari stops and holds her hands where they can see them. "O...kay," she says. "Shit, well, take her. I'm not dying for this paycheck."

(Storage) The last room is a narrow and simple room, with a table and a portable toilet. A familiar purple asari is huddled in the corner, shivering and quitely sobbing. She is only in her underwear, and there's no signs of her clothes and belongings elsewhere in this room. Her hands are bound, as well. She ddoesn't seem to acknowledge Victoria opening the door.

Uvena drops down into the bedroom, landing just beside the downed batarian, and she starts walking towards the hallway.

Jason keeps the Revenant leveled on her and gives a nod in the asari's direction. "Get her weapon, Renala." he says, stepping even further to the side to keep her at an awkward angle if she decides to take her chances on trying to fight back. "Why did you take her? What is this about? You can't really expect me to believe this was all over a fucking skycar, can you?" He pauses for a

moment, furrowing his brow, "....Are you assholes really that stupid?"

"Va'ynna!" She says with relief at finding her. She takes off her helm and rushes over to her "What did they do to you?" She stops for a moment and gets on comms quickly "I found Va'ynna... and Jason, keep that last one alive. I want some words."

Renala moves over to take the holster off her without disrupting Jason's line of fire.

(Outside) The asari does not give any resistance. "I won't sugar coat it, and it's not pretty," she says. "The plan was to capture the debtor, and sell her off to cover the debt. We got a buyer, who was interested in the younger one. I didn't ask questions, the offer was too good to scare her off."

Jason holsters his Revenant on his back once Renala has removed the asari's weapon, quickly swapping it out for his Phalanx since it's easier to handle up close. A small smile tugs at the corner of his mouth as he hears Victoria announce that she's found Va'ynna, but his happiness is short lived as the asari begins to speak. Teeth clenched as he hears the asari's explanation, he stomps

towards her, pressing the Phalanx to the side of her head. "What in the fuck are you talking about!? Who is the buyer!?" he demands.

Va'ynna looks up at her, and she starts speaking, but whatever comes out is too shaky and incoherent for the translator. She holds her bound hands up.

Uvena rushes into the room second. "Goddess," she shouts, both relieved to see her and worried about her not being dressed for the rapidly lowering temperature inside. "She must be freezing! I'll see if I can find anything." She gets on the comms, sounding quite panicked. "Do we have a blanket in the shuttle, or anything? She's going to freeze solid in this weather." She runs back to the bedroom and starts looking through the room

for anything she can use.

Jasper responds to Uvena's request. "We got some 'mergency equipment tucked into some of the storage space under the benches. There should be some blankets tucked away. I know I packed a few in case we were ever stranded." He shuts the shuttle down and quickly jumps from his seat, hurrying to the back and dropping to his knees in front of the seats near the door, going through the space beneath it.

(Outside) The asari shuts her eyes tightly at the expectation of a shot. "Sala Piros," she says. "She's clearly working for someone else. I don't know who. She's coming later today to do a medical check, but said someone else will retrieve the asari at a later day."

Renala looks the asari up and down. "Atana could use that coat," she says.

"Uvena, you stay with Va'ynna. There is something I gotta do. Sweetie, I will be back soon." Her middle words had a grim tone to it, while the rest were caring. Vicky holsters her predator and takes out her knife, she then heads towards where Jason is.

Jason presses the barrel of his pistol harder against the asari's temple. "You heard her. Take off the coat. I want everything you have on this 'Sala Piros'. Contact information. How you found her." His eyes dart briefly to Renala, "Get her omni-tool and collect the omni-tools of the other two if they have them. Then I want a full sweep of her skycar." He seems to barely even notice

Victoria's arrival. It's taking every ounce of strength just to keep from pulling the trigger.

Jasper tosses aside a few odds and ends. Flares. Equipment to start a fire. Non-perishable rations. "Got it!" he exclaims over comms as he pulls free a neatly folded, thick grey blanket.

Uvena nods to herself. "Thank you, could you send Mendez over with it?" she says before walking back to where her daughter is. "It's going to be alright, Va'ynna," she says while untying the ropes. "Stay with us."

Renala nods and starts searching her pockets until finding the device, and disconnects it from the wiring going to the coat's interface emitter. "Got it," she says before walking inside to gather the others' omni-tools, not paying Victoria any mind.

(Outside) She sighs. "That's all I got, I swear!" she says. "Avoren is the one that corresponded with her, so you have to talk to him. And I can't give you her contact information without my omni-tool."

(Outside) She does not take off the coat with a gun to her head.

Victoria slowly walks up to the asari and recognises her straight away, she moves to the side of Jason. "Oh, it is the one that called me bitch." She quickly draws her predator and shoots her in both knee caps. "Right now, you can call me karma. Because karma is a bitch."

Mendez leans over, accepting the blanket from the older man. "On my way." he says flatly, although there's definitely an extra jump in his step as he jogs to the building.

Jason stops Mendez, raising a hand to beckon him over. "The coat, too." he says, "Give her coat to V." Adjusting his grip on his pistol, he gives her another nudge with the barrel. "Well, see, that's unfortunate. Because Taros is dead." he says, "Does-..." he trails off as Victoria opens fire on the asari, hopping back a step as it catches him off guard. "Vic-... The fuck are you

doing!?"

(Outside) The asari tips forward and she grips her knee. "I told you all I knew!" she says, sounding quite pained.

Mendez furrows his brow. He was moving to remove the asari's jacket when Victoria opened fire. He looks to Jason for a moment, confusion coming over his face over whether or not he should take the asari's jacket still. He shows no remorse for her pained state, however. Rather than waiting for further orders, he merely shrugs, steps over the asari, and enters the building.

Uvena is still with Va'ynna, and she looks over to the door as Mendez enters.

Renala has gathered the second omni-tool and she makes her way outside and over to the vehicle parked some distance away from the building.

Va'ynna is still sitting on the floor.

Victoria crouches down to her new height. "You will tell him everything. Everything single, fucking thing." She stands back up and leans against the wall "Question her now, I will get her medi-gel afterwards. I stopped myself from doing worse, trust me." She tells the man.
