#FreedomFalls – July 18, 2016
Uvena enters the apartment building after stepping off the shuttle. She hasn't said anything during the shuttle trip. The asari is still armed and in her armor, and she carries her helmet under her arm.
Victoria follows behind Uvena, her armor still on but she decided to leave her weapons and helmet in the shuttle. Vicky has not spoken a word either, feeling like Uvena is more than likely annoyed with her.
Uvena sighs. "I overheard your argument with Wolfe," she says to break the silence. "I'm all for giving people what they deserve, but the fight was over and he had it under control."
Victoria remains silent for a moment "I know. I should not have done it." She simply states to the older asari.
Uvena reaches the staircase and starts making her way up. "Just think of all the undeserved second chances that got us where we are," she says.
Victoria nods and follows the asari "I know, but seeing Va'ynna like that..." She stops for a few moments "I just lost control."
Uvena frowns. "You need to work on that," she says. "Nothing will prepare you for some of the things we get to see in the field, and losing control could be bad for all of us, not just you, not just her."
"I can keep it professional. It is just when I have a personal connection I lose it." She knew that was her problem.
Uvena starts walking down the hallway. "You recognize it, just as I did," she says. "That's why we should follow orders and leave the decisions to the higher-ups. Actually, we should always do that... unless we're given orders that says otherwise."
Victoria nods and still continues to follow Uvena "Well I try my best to follow orders, I'm just a better pilot than I am a soldier."
Uvena raises an eyebrow. "There's no trying," she says. "You either follow orders or you don't. The fighting was over, there was more than enough time to get on the comms and ask."
Victoria keeps her mouth shut again for the time being. "It won't happen again. Va'ynna should not be a target any more after this whole mess."
Uvena reaches the door and unlocks it. "We don't know that," she says. "If T'Iavay and Mendez comes up empty-handed, then we may never know if we truly stopped this." She opens the door and steps aside, waiting for Victoria to enter first.
Victoria enters the apartment, believing that is why Uvena step aside for. "Well, hopefully they will find it."
Uvena enters and closes the door behind her. "But that isn't the biggest problem," she says. "The girl has been through a lot the last year. She is very averse to uncertainty and risk, as she has always been, but this.... I fear this could end in disaster for her if we're not careful, not at our best."
Victoria nods and sighs "Yeah, she has been through a lot. Would it be a good idea for you to help her with her biotics?" Vicky asked she wanted to keep Va'ynna safe but she could not be there all the time.
Uvena nods. "Of course," she says, "but biotics are no use if the stress of combat becomes too great, or if she doesn't even want to use it on another person in the first place."
Victoria begins to move towards her room to retrieve clothes for Vay. "I tried to teach her how to shoot, but I don't think she is like us."
Uvena enters the bedroom, and stops to stand next to the door. "Few people are," she says, "which is probably why a mercenary company can stay in business, even out here where everyone are expected to fend for themselves."
Victoria sighs and rubs her eyes "Yeah, that sounds about right." She falls silent for a moment reflecting back on the events of today. "Lets find something warm for Va'ynna."
Uvena walks over to the wardrobe. "If she's going to stay there for a few days, she'll need something comforatble as well," she says.
"I don't think she will need to stay there, that is my honest opinion. She will be more than likely sleeping on a couch." She would have been happier if Va'ynna wanted to stay at home.
Uvena frowns. "But their office is the safest place in town," she says. "I'll see about smuggling in a comfortable mattress if she decides to stay there I'm sure they'll understand." She opens one of the drawers and starts looking through it. She does know which are Va'ynna's as she has offered to help with laundry.
Victoria was about to open her mouth to protest but decided against it and just sighed. "Yeah, you are right." She goes to pull a carrying bag from underneath the bed for the clothes to go in.
Uvena starts picking out shirts. "I don't think she'll protest if you stay with her," she says. "Just be mindful of what she has been through this morning, okay?" She gently throws the five folded shirts over to the bed: the red one she wore when Victoria showed her around the ship at the top of the pile.
Victoria starts putting the shirts into the bag, leaving the red one until last. "I will, it is just that I think I can protect her here." She shakes her head "But you are right."
Uvena sighs. "You can't," she says. "Not all the time." She opens the closet and picks out two dresses: her red and green one. "Don't forger you have work to do," she says. "When is it you're leaving?" She lays the dresses flat on the bed, including the coat hangers.
Victoria remains silent for a moment "I believe I will let Austin take command on this trip. I don't think it would be wise for me to leave. After what happened to her." Her tone was blank but it did have truth behind it, she did not think it was a good idea to leave after what happened to her.
Uvena frowns. "Are you sure that's a good idea?" she asks. "It wasn't very long ago you took it back from former crew that had stolen it from you."
Victoria takes a seat down on the bed and holds her head, frowning as well. "I don't know... I just don't want to feel like I am abandoning her." She looks up to Uvena "I will be gone for a week at least."
Uvena opens another drawer. "I understand," she says. "I doubt she'll get enough days off to accompany you." She starts picking out pants, though there is little variation to make the choice difficult. "Even though I think D'Inea owes her as much."
Victoria nods "Yeah, D'Inea does owe her a bit." Vicky went back to packing the bag again. "I guess, I will go. Get it done as fast as I can and hope I am back here quick and safe."
Uvena nods and throws the pairs of pants over to the bed. Three of them in total, all of which are black. "I'll take care of her," she says with a small smile. "I'm certain she'll understand." She turns around. "I'll go check my bags for something she could use," the asari continues. "Could you pack the rest of her things in the meantime?"
Victoria had only just finished packing the dresses into the bag. "Yeah, I can finish packing the rest. What are you checking your bags for?" She asked as she started to pack the pants into the bag neatly.
Uvena chuckles. "Anything," she says. "Everything I own is in those bags. It's hard to keep track of it all."
Victoria nods yet again at the asari "Well, hopefully you can find it all." She offers with a smile as she continues to pack the bag.
Uvena steps out of the room and starts towards the hallway. "Contact me if Jasper shows up and I'm not back," she says.
"Will do. Do you want us to come to you if that is the case?" She asked the asari in case that is what she wanted.
Uvena shakes her head. "A message would be enough," she says before stepping out of the apartment, closing the door behind her.
Victoria gives her a nod before she left "Gotcha. Don't worry, I'll finish up here." She said as she just finished packing the pants Uvena had taken out.
