Tyranniac| Everyone has recieved a message two days ago that told them to meet at the Freedom Falls spaceport. The spaceport is fairly calm - most of the docked ships tend to be freighters, and they do not attract much activty aside from the loading and unloading of cargo. They were asked to meet outside one of the smaller hangars.
#HuntingTime – August 25, 2013
Renala approaches the hangar the message as of two days ago told, dressed very similarly as well: leather jacket (with a very weak kinetic barrier system) mostly zipped up, dark-blue top beneath, and non-descript dark-gray pants with a few pockets. She also has a backpack on her back, but it doesn't seem to be as tightly packet as last time. A holster is on her left hip, within it the Carnifex pistol she picked up on the salvaging job.
Darsk walks towards the hangar. His armor and Graal spikethrower appear to have been cleaned and polished, sporting a matching black paint job. His Executioner sidearm and dagger are visble.
Steve arrives shortly after. His hardsuit is still unpainted, with small scratches covering large portions of it. His Tempest is holstered on his right thigh, and he carries a helmet under his right arm. Large portions of the paint have been scratched away, but small swaths of yellow paint still decorate patches. He approaches Renala hesitantly with a nod and a sheepish smile. "Hey."
Iressa strolls along behind the towering Krogan, inspecting their surroundings and hoping they've come to the right location. She's dressed modestly: Typical wear of a biologist in the field and still practical for the region's climate. After coming to a stop, she proceeds to read a display off of her omni-tool for what seems like the latest in a long string of times, as if done out of compulsion.
Tyranniac| A turian man approaches the group. "Ah, you must be the team." He extends his hand towards the nearest member of the group - Steve.
Steve begins to respond to Renala before being interrupted. "Steve." he offers, shaking the turians hand.
Turian: "Malarus. I'm the one that organized this. Well, except finding you people. I think I will handle that myself next time, considering the two that did not show up."
Tyranniac| The turian can't help but smirk at Darsk's remark. "Some krogan fighting spirit can't hurt, although I'm hoping we won't run in to any trouble." He looks at Steve. "If you'll follow me. I've rented an atmospheric shuttle." Malarus presses the door's interface to open it, and starts walking down the short corridor that soon opens up into a room with a shuttle of a fairly old model. The roof appears to open to let the shuttle out.
Malarus: Assuming all goes well, part of the reward for collecting the animal will go paying the rental fee of the shuttle as well as the price of the capture equipment I bought. If things do not work out, I will cover the costs myself.
Tyranniac| Maria is already in the hangar, just finishing with the loading of the equipment onto the shuttle.
Iressa returns the omni-tool to her side, the text on the display disappearing. She casually strolls in after the others, taking one last look over her shoulder before stepping inside.
Tyranniac| The turian boards the shuttle and moves to the pilot seat. The shuttle is not very large but has more than enough room for the group plus equipment. Maria takes a seat along one of the walls.
Renala enters the shuttle afterwards, taking off her backpack. She places the backpack beneath a seat along the wall opposite Maria, and sits down on it.
Steve climbs into the shuttle and takes a seat. "So what do we know about this creature?" he asks as he begins to strap himself in.
Darsk enters with one foot first, as if testing whether or not the shuttle will support his weight without breaking. Once satisfied, he climbs aboard.
Malarus: I know where we're looking for it, that's about it. This is what we have a biologist for, isn't it?
Iressa sits down a few seats from Steve, clearing her throat at his inquiry. "Yes, I do believe that's why I'm here." Settling in, she speaks smoothly towards no one in particular. "As for what we know, it isn't much. Only remains have ever been recovered, but the carcass revealed its anatomical structure, and the contents of it's stomach suggested the habitat it lives in. It's not an... attractive creature."
Steve turns his attention to the asari as she speaks, recalling the conversation he had a few nights ago with her. "Is it dangerous?" he asks bluntly.
Iressa chuckles a little to herself, but does seem to contemplate the question for a moment. "Well" she begins, seemingly weighing thoughts in her mind. "It is true it's behaviour has yet to be studied, but if I had to make an educated guess... Yes, very much so." She shifts a little in her seat, clealy uncomfortable with what she's picturing. "The bone structure implies impressive speed capabilities, and the large claws, well... you know what they imply."
Tyranniac| The turian closes the door to the shuttle once everyone is onboard. "Everyone ready for takeoff?"
Tyranniac| Malarus activates the shuttle radio to get cleared for take-off. It doesn't take long before the shuttle moves up and away. Maria sits quietly, fiddling with her Executioner.
Iressa blinks in surprise, "So you didn't, my apologies. Iressa T'Selvos." She states, grasping his hand with a warm smile.
Steve nods. "Nice meetin' ya, Ms. T'Selvos. Steve. Friends call me-..." he begins, but quickly catches himself. "Well, just Steve." he adds with a smirk.
Steve glances at Darsk for a moment, but quickly turns his attention back to Iressa. "From the sound of things, might be a good thing that the big fella came along."
Iressa shakes her head, "Not much evidence suggesting either way. I'm afraid we do not have much to go on as far as what to expect." She directs her last thought towards Maria, "That is why we take every precaution necessary."
Renala nods acknowledging. "From what the ExoGeni job posting says, it's about the size of a varren and eats meat," she says. "Wouldn't take a pack of those coming at us lightly."
Maria: Super. She offers Iressa an empty smile before reaching over towards a bag and pulling out a datapad and handing it to the person sitting nearest to her. This thing has a map that Malarus fixed. It's the area we're going to.
Turian: The equipment I bought includes restraints and two guns with sedatives. Being prepared is everything.
Malarus: The area is unpopulated as far as I've been able to find out. Apparently a dead one was found somewhere in that region last time someone was there. I have only been able to narrow down the area a bit though. The searching is probably going to take several hours.
Iressa accepts the datapad, inspecting its contents closely. After a few moments, she speaks up. "You're right, this could take time." She frowns, tilting the device in her hands as if handling it at different angles would somehow reveal its secrets.
Renala nods. "Mhm," she says, "though a little more smoothly isn't asking too much..." She's been leaning back with eyes closed for most of the shuttle trip, but hasn't been sleeping.
Renala smiles sheepishly. "Seems so, yeah," she admits. "Haven't had much to be optimistic about lately."
Iressa sits with her hands folded in her lap, occasionally looking around at the other shuttle passengers with passing interest. Almost reluctantly she sneaks another peak at her omni-tool, nodding slightly to herself as she confirms once again what she's read before the shuttle can fully make its descent.
Steve raises an eyebrow. "Sure there is. And when I figure out just what that might be, I'll get back to you." he says, his smirk widening.
Tyranniac| The shuttle can be felt moving straight rather slowly, but it doesn't take long before it comes to rest on the ground.
Renala lets out a small smile. "Sure, do that." As she notices the shuttle coming to rest on the ground beneath, she unbuckles herself from the seat and stands up, picking up the backpack.
Steve lifts his helmet up and adjusts it. It locks into place with a metallic clank and the round eyes light up a bright yellow. "Time to get to work." he says, his voice taking on a somewhat muffled mechanical tone through the helmet.
Iressa removes the fastenings from her waist, standing up a stretching a little before looking to the turian for more instructions.
Malarus: I've set up a comm channel, check your omni-tools to make sure you're in it. You might want to decide who's taking the dart guns.
Tyranniac| Maria grabs her backpack and one of the dart guns lying on the floor. The other one remains along with the bag containing the restraints.
Darsk gets up from his seat, attaches his Graal to the back of his armor and picks up the second dart gun
Tyranniac| Maria looks sceptically at the krogan. "You a good shot? Krogan aren't exactly known for their... marksmanship.
Steve unbuckles his harness and pokes at his omni-tool interface for a moment before allowing it to dissipate.
Renala puts her backpack on. and takes her pistol out of its holster, and loads a new clip into it before holstering it again.
Iressa checks her omni-tool, seeming satisfied with what she sees before looking over at the shrinking pile of equipment. "Who will take the restraints?"
Tyranniac| Maria opens the shuttle doors and exits into the sunlit clearing they landed in. The forest is not far off.
Iressa follows her, eager to step out onto solid land once again. Upon exiting the shuttle she begins to try to get her bearings, recalling the image on the datapad as she wanders the immediate area of the clearing.
Darsk jumps out of the shuttle and immediately scans the area for signs of activity, tranquilizer at the ready
Steve rises from his seat and follows the others out of the shuttle. He removes his Tempest from its' holster and loads it with a fresh thermal clip.
Renala nods to Maria as she exits the shuttle, carrying the equipment bag in her right hand and her left hand near the holster. She looks over the area warily.
Malarus: We landed in the clearing at the western edge of the map. I'll be staying in here, guarding the shuttle.
Tyranniac| Malarus looks slightly annoyed. "Somebody has to, and I'll be do what I can to help out over the comm."
Iressa turns to face Steve, her omni-tool illuminated and displaying the downloaded map. "Well..." She begins, still studying the image. "As long as we comb the forests thoroughly, I haven't the slightest clue where to begin. Anyone?"
Renala looks at Iressa. "You're the biologist," she says. "Any info on what kind of area the creature prefers?"
Iressa looks conflicted as she dismisses the display from her omni-tool, "There is... one thing." She folds her hands behind her back, returning to the same, smooth tone of voice she implimented earlier. "The remains of this creature also suggested, along with the fact that it's prey dwelled in the forests, that it was capable of underwater respiration."
Well, we're certainly not equipped for an underwater op... So unless the krogans a strong swimmer, I'd say that leaves the forest as our only option.
Steve sighs. "Calm down, big guy. It was a joke." he says. "That sounds like a good place to start." he adds, nodding to Renala.
Iressa turns to face more eastward, looking into the distance. "There's some promising looking marshlands out this way, and we can cover a sizable amount of forest getting there. If we have no luck there, we can follow the river northward. Or South. That doesn't matter so much as long as we stick to it's most probable habitats."
