#AsteroidMine – April 10, 2014

One of the proto-adjutants is hurled across the hangar floor and another falls to Steve's SMG fire, but they keep coming. Two of them jump the shuttle, one climbing onto the roof and out of sight and one leaning into the doorway and slashing at Steve.

Steve gets caught between his armor plating near the top of his thigh and tumbles backwards, hitting the ground hard with a pained groan. "Close the fucking door!" he shouts as he quickly tries to scoot backwards. Given the nature of his arm, it's near-impossible for him to reload his SMG.

Jason glances over at the others with a nod before pressing the panel once again.

When the door opens, Jason is greeted by the barrel of a shotgun to his face, by someone pressed against the wall on the other side of the door. The room itself is identical, but has 13 terrified humans in it, most if them in miner's outfits. Two of them hold handguns aimed at the door. The shotgun appears to belong to a woman in a security officer outfit similar to O'Rely and Dasgupta's. There is also a LOKI that is also aiming its

weapon at the door.

Halisi starts tapping on her omni-tool and then neural shocks the proto-adjutant that attacked Steve, causing it to fall off the shuttle. "Close it!"

Renala raises her brows. "Calm down, we're here to get you out," she says, staying behind cover. "We're sent by Londinum Galactic."

Jasper cranes his neck to look back into the cargo compartment and jumps into action, tapping at the console, triggering the doors to slide shut. "How many are out there!?"

Steve reaches down and presses his good hand against the now-bleeding gash in his leg. "I don't fucking know! A lot!"

Leah trains her weapon on the shotgun wielder. "Lower your weapons!" she orders, "We're here to help."

Halisi backs away from the closing door. Upon noticing Steve's new wound she kneels down and reaches for her medi-gel canister. "Stay still, I'll patch you up. It was just the claw that did this, right?"

Vaden jumps as he realizes there is a weapon trained on Jason. He can't do much from where he is.

Jason 's eyes go wide and he jerks back into cover. He remains quiet as the other two have already said all that needs to be said.

Alex is sitting up, her knees brought up to her chest, she stays quiet since she has nothing useful to say.

Steve keeps pressure on his wound. "Pardon me if I didn't stop to ask the murderous creature what he shanked me with! I was a little preoccupied!" he shouts, the frustration clear in his voice.

The shotgun slowly lowers, followed by the others' weapons. A wave of relief washes over their faces. "Was beginning to think no one was coming." The security officer says. She taps on her omni-tool and the mech stops pointing its weapon at them as well.

Halisi furrows her brows as she looks over the injury while applying the medi-gel. "Looks like it was just a claw. It's important. You don't want to become one of them, do you?"

Leah lowers her weapon as well.

Renala never had her raised.

Jason steps out of cover and lets out a breath. "We have a shuttle waiting up in the hangar." he says, "It's important that we get back there as soon as possible. Are you the only ones that made it?"

Officer nods. "Pretty sure we're it. The cafeteria got overrun from what we know."

Steve removes his hand as the woman begins to apply medi-gel. "What do you mean?" he asks as a bit of fear creeps into his voice.

Jason sighs. "Alright. Let's get out of here, then." he says and starts back down the hall, returning to the door leading to the main chamber.

Leah holds her position, deciding to wait until everyone exits the room before following.

Renala follows after Jason. "Maybe we should check the last door from here?" she says.

Halisi continues to apply the medi-gel as she speaks. "That's how they multiply. They inject something. A virus. With the appendages on their face."

Officer shakes her head. "We gathered everyone in one room to make it easier to defend."

Vaden follows Jason back towards the main chamber.

The miners start to move into the hallway in a disorganized manner, with the security officer at the front. The chef clumps up with the others. Behind them all the mech follows.

Jason gives Renala a nod. "Lead the people into the chamber, Vaden." he says before stacking up on the door indicated by Renala. "Wouldn't want to leave anyone behind."

Renala stacks up on the other side of the door, which is the southernmost door in the hallway, and waits for Jason to get ready.

Vaden moves out into the main chamber with the miners in trail. He doesn't look too enthusiastic about being the first one out.

Officer notices that they're going after the door anyway and stops. "Really, you don't need to do that, there's no one in there."

Leah follows the survivors as they file out of the room.

Jason glances towards the officer with a nod. "That may be true. But I'd rather be thorough."

Steve glances at his broken arm. "That was how... How my arm was broken." He lifts his head and stares at the doctor in silence for a moment. "Do you think-...?"

Halisi 's eyes widen. "How long ago? Did they breach your armor?" She blurts out, and immediately starts to look over his arm again.

Vaden is about halfway through the main chamber when proto-adjutants start to leap down from the walkway above. "Run! To the hangar!" He exclaims and starts to fire at them with his Shuriken. The miners start to run off towards the reception, only two of them armed. The security officer joins Vaden and the mech in fending off the attackers.

Renala steps away from the door at the sound of gunshots and returns out to the main chamber, aiming around frantically for the creatures.

The asari is immediately jumped by one of them, who aims its biotic arm right at her head after pinning her down.

Officer fires her shotgun repeatedly at the incoming creatures, dropping a few of them, but more are on the way.

Vaden is not managing to hit much with his one-handed shooting, only slowing their attackers.

The mech manages to take down one of the proto-adjutants before it is jumped and has its head torn off.

Steve joins in on examining his arm, pushing through the pain to twist his broken arm. "I-... I don't know. It's been a while." he says as panic sets in, "And my head... It's been hurting pretty bad."

Renala is pushed to the ground, but manages to hold onto her weapon. She tries to push away the biotic arm with one hand to buy her time while stabbing the gun into the creature's side and firing off the remainder of the clip, which means 13 shots and one armor-piercing round.

Leah funnels out of the corridor and raises her Mattock, sighting in on the nearest adjutant still on its feet, she fires six rounds into it.

Jason quickly races out of the corridor, trailing just behind Leah, and shoulders his heavy weapon. He begins expelling half his clip, spreading the rounds out on numerous attackers as he attempts to get a read on their numbers.

Halisi has unwrapped the sling and splint to look over his arm, and seems to slowly calm down. "I... I think you should be okay. It doesn't look like they injected anything."

Leah and Jason both fell several proto-adjutants, but more are coming from up ahead. The one on top of Renala is easily killed by the point-blank gunfire, which cuts through it. The miners have mostly reached the reception area by now.

Renala quickly scrambles towards the wall before getting to her feet, breathing heavily.

But.... But you don't know for sure?

Vaden 's gun overheats and he decides to just drop it as he can't reload. "Hurry! Must retreat!" He yells at the others as he starts to follow the miners.

A proto-adjutant can still be heard on the roof, but the ones below seem to have thinned out, perhaps because they are hunting in another part of the facility?

Officer is suddenly struck by a warp field in the head, screaming in terror as her face shreds and falls off. She drops dead soon after, her Scimitar clanking against the floor as she falls.

Jason quickly backs up to the wall, taking a position beside Renala. He fires another 15 rounds at a couple of would-be attackers. "We have to move!" he shouts to Renala.

Leah is quickly backpedaling towards the reception, gradually increasing the distance between herself and Jason & Renala. She stops every few feet and fires a three round burst until her clip is dry. She quickly slams a new thermal clip into her weapon.

Halisi shakes her head. "No... I'm sorry. But if you don't show any symptoms soon I would say your safe."

Renala nods and reloads. "Yeah," she says befoer firing off the entire clip at arbitrary hostiles, switching creature once/if one fall.

Jason and Renala are starting to get cut off from the others by numerous proto-adjutants. Many have fallen to their combined fire, but most of the ones left seem to have protective barriers.

Jason expends the rest of his clip as he's backed against the wall, making sure to reload before he begins his attempt at catching up to the others. "Shit..." he grunts loudly. Operating on adrenaline alone, he continues moving forward and firing random shots in hope of pushing the enemies back, emptying another half of a clip.

Vaden enters the reception only to discover that the miners have already started moving up the stairs. Screams are heard as they run in to one of the proto-adjutants. The salarian hurries after them only to see that it got two before they managed to shoot it.

Renala | "We have to find a way around them," she says to Jason as she reloads and fires towards the creatures nearing them, in bursts of 8 to keep the gun level.

Steve leans his head back and looks up at the roof of the shuttle as adjutant scuttles around. "So... Either I'm good, or I'm dead... Huh?" he sighs, giving a forced chuckle, "Fuck..."

The barriers of several adjutants fail and they fall to the overwhelming power of the M-76. Their numbers on the floor start to thin out - most remaining are above now.

Leah manages to catch up to the others and attempts to push her way through the crowd. "Slow down! Stay behind me!" she calls out, hoping to be heard over the panic.

The proto-adjutant on top of the shuttle can be heard scratching its metal claws against the roof and shrieking.

Renala's fire clears out the last of the creatures on the lower level, but several of the ones above fire warps at the two mercs. A singularity appears in front of the asari.

The miners don't show any sign of stopping. They rush up the stairs and open the door to the next room, only to be jumped by another proto-adjutant that stabs its tubings into the nearest miner.

Halisi sighs. "I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do. Don't worry too much. You're probably fine." She offers as reassuring a smile as she can manage in their current situation.

Renala steps back into cover inside the doorframe as one of the warps hit her, managing to get inside before the singularity blossoms. Due to a wall between, she manages to react and get out of the singularity's range.

Her shields are completely depleted, however.

Vaden has no means of attacking the creature that jumped from the door, and jumps back instead.

Jason frantically searches for threats as he responds to Renala, "Well, I'm open to any suggestions!" he shouts just as the warp nails him, knocking out his shields. "Shit!" he shouts, returning fire. He fires 15 rounds at the adjutant's up top. "We're comin' in hot!" he shots over comms, "Have that shuttle ready to go!"

Renala reloads her weapon, as well, now on her last clip. "If I'm not mistaken, we might reach the maintenance tunnel from here," she says. "The one we found the generator room in."

(Comms) I hear ya, Jay. We've got some problems of our own, so be careful!

More warps rain down from above, and a few of the more heavily mutated proto-adjutants start to jump down. Their loud howling is constant by now.

Leah reaches the top of the stairs and aims a powerful kick at the adjutant atop the miner. Whether or not it falls off the miner, she fires 8 shots into it.

The creature is kicked off the miner and shot dead. The miner lies on the floor panting heavily, with a number of circular wounds on his chest. The rest of the miners stand in shock, having finally stopped. The door to the hangar is open in the room the proto-adjutant jumped out from, as is the western door.

Jason quickly ducks back into the hallway Renala entered, narrowly escaping the hail of warps. "Well lead the way!" he orders, expelling his mostly-exhausted clip and replacing it with a fresh one, "We can't wait around here!"

Renala nods, priming her grenade. She lobs it into the main chamber, not having it land too far from the doorway, before running towards the north end of the hallway. "Right... right door," she says between breath.

Steve sighs as he hears Jason. "Jasper..." he says as he climbs to his feet, favoring his leg a bit. "Open the door." he groans, clearly not too happy with his own decision. He glances over at the doctor as he struggles to reload his weapon, "Might be a dead man anyway, right?" he snorts, "Might as well make sure my friend makes it home."

Jason doesn't even bother looking back. He just hustles down the hall behind Renala. His arms are pretty much numb by this point from all the Revenant firing.

Leah glances down at the man. She looks about the crowd at all the reactions. "What...?" she asks as she extends a hand towards the downed miner. "Get up and keep moving!"

Jasper starts to object, but finally nods and opens the shuttle door. "Be careful out there, Briggs."

Halisi seems skeptical at Steve's idea but is now busy tending to Alex again, starting by making her lie down once more.

Steve finally manages to get a new thermal clip into his SMG and begins building up biotic energy. His shoulders rise and fall as he nervously waits for the shuttle doors to slide open.

The downed miner grabs Leah's hand and gets up. He's shaking and clearly shocked, but moving none the less. Another proto-adjutant starts approaching from the western corridor. The path to the hangar is still clear however.

Once the shuttle door opens it would reveal that there are only three proto-adjutants left in the hangar, aside from the one on the roof. They starts running towards the shuttle as the door opens.

Leah shoulders her Mattock. "Go! Get to the shuttle!" she shouts as she exhausts her remaining eight shots into the approaching adjutant.

Fragments and wall debris fly as the grenade explodes, cutting through the two adjutants that had almost approached the door. None other enter yet.

The miners start to run into the hangar, but panic as they see the shuttle in the air and the proto-adjutants approaching it.

Alex fights against having to lay down, and tries to stand, looking pained for a moment "Lemme help!"

Vaden moves past Leah last and stops. "Come. Must hurry!"

Steve remains in the shuttle as he begins sweeping his SMG back and forth across the three charging adjutants, unloading half his clip at them with a loud warcry.

Halisi shakes her head. "No. You're already bleeding internally, it's only going to get worse if you keep moving."

Two of the hangar's occupants fall to Steve's fire - they are fairly weak and unmutated. The third is about to jump at the shuttle when one of the miner's open fire at it, causing it to turn around and charge towards her.

Leah's adversary keeps coming down the hallway, its barrier taking the shots for it.

Renala reaches the end of the hallway, stopping for a moment to catch her breath. "Fuck," she says. She glances towards the door to the right, if it's electronic.

Leah | "Go on!" she calls after Vaden as she replaces her thermal clip, "I'll catch up!" She follows up with eight more shots aimed at the adjutant's scenter mass.

Steve leaps out of the shuttle and begins barrelling down at the adjutant distracted by the miner, hoping the one atop the shuttle will see him and give chase. He unloads another 10 rounds at the creature targeting the miners.

The door is indeed electronic. However on the wall next to it is a sign that says WC.

Renala sighs. "Oh... shit," she says. "I was wrong." She turns around and aims down the hallway.

The roof adjutant does indeed jump down at Steve, but it jumps all the way to him right away thanks to its heavy mutation. The two miners with guns keep firing at the one approaching them, and eventually manage to down it. The hallway-adjutant is fast approaching Leah, even though it takes a few rounds to the body after its barriers fall. It leaps at her.

Jason cusses loudly. "Fuck!" He glances down at his Revenant and grips it tightly. "No choice then. We're going back!" he says. One more deep breath later and he begins marching back down the hall.

Renala nods and fall into step behind him. "I'm on my last clip, though," she says.

Several proto-adjutants begin piling into the hallway and running towards Jason and Renala. A warp flies their way as they approach.

Renala stops at the sight of those creatures, and slams her hand on the interface on the door opposite the WC. "You got grenades?" she asks.

The door opens to reveal a room full of white tiling. Water immediately starts leaking out into the hallway. It's a shower room. Shattered tiles and leaking pipes indicate fighting. A dead proto-adjutant sits against the wall. There are two doors on the opposite wall. The creatures in the corridor are fast approaching.

Jason stops in place and begins to dig for a thermal clip as the adjutants enter the hall. "Shit-..." he mutters as he begins backpedaling towards Renala, unleashing a stream of fire at the hallway monsters. He takes another warp, reducing his shields yet again. "Yeah!" he shouts. As his weapon empties, he reaches for a grenade.

Steve is tackled to the ground from behind. He throws an elbow back in an attempt at staggering his attacker enough for him to roll onto his back.

Throw it and get inside. There's water on the floor.

Renala sidesteps and fires off 16 (+2 armor piercing) shots if there is a line of sight that doesn't involve Jason. She steps into the room, carefully considering the potential slipperiness of the floor.

Leah begins to panic somewhat, backing away as she unloads the other half of her clip at the adjutant and drops her weapon to the ground in preparation of an imminent hand-to-hand engagement.

The adjutant is not particularly affected by Steve's elbowing, and keeps coming at him, but Vaden runs up and tackles the creature, lacking any better means of attack. The salarian succeeds in getting it off Steve but ends up tangled with it as it rolls off the human. It quickly pins him down. "Not good! Not good!" He exclaims loudly, unable to do much.

The hallway adjutant engages Leah, slashing with its claw-hand and preparing to fire a warp with the other.

The frontmost proto-adjutant in the living quarters corridor falls to Jason and Renala's fire, slowing the others somewhat as they climb over it.

Jason pulls a grenade free and activates it. He hurls it forward, aiming it a few steps in front of the lead approaching adjutant before entering the shower room behind Renala. He hastily backs away from the door and falls onto his ass from the water on the floor, but seems less worried about that than getting a new thermal clip into his weapon. He quickly pulls two more thermal clips free and extends them towards Renala. "Get ready to deal with any stragglers!"

Renala nods, and takes the clips, "Thanks." She carefully steps away from the door to have her back against the wall and a good view of it. She aims her weapon at the doorway.

Steve pushes through the pain shooting up his arm and leg and rises to his feet. Giving another loud war cry, he rushes at the creature and punches outward, releasing a biotic throw. He immediately collapses to his knees after due to exertion, hunkering over and propping himself up with a hand against the ground.

The door to the shower room closes. A moment later the grenade explodes, rocking the walls and sending ripples across the water. As the noise of the explosion dies down, there is silence. All that is heard is the splashing of the water.

Renala sighs relieved as the explosion goes off, but keeps her weapon trained on the door. "I can't hear any," she whispers.

Vaden's attacker is struck by the throw and is sent flying across the hangar floor... and through the forcefield. It flails its limbs in vain as it floats off into space.

Leah manages to get her arm up to block the adjutant's swipe, but it does little to keep the claw from connecting with the soft undersuit and slicing clean through it. She bites hard as the claw makes contact with bone but immediately responds with a right hook, attempting to catch the adjutant with her the hard plating on her elbow.

Jason remains on the ground, but aims his LMG up at the door as he pants heavily.

The creature attacking Leah is struck in the head by Leah's elbow and backs off slightly, but it then proceeds to fire a warp at her.

The door remains closed. There is still silence.

Leah's shields sizzle out as the warp makes contact and she stumbles back momentarily. She uses the creature's short retreat to begin building up biotic energy. If given the chance, she unleashes a powerful throw at the adjutant.

Renala takes a step towards the door. "Should we get going?" she whispers.

Leah's adjutant is thrown back across the hallway. After a little while it starts to get up again.

Jason slowly climbs to his fight, expecting more creatures to burst through the door any moment. "We-.. We have to move." he agrees.

Renala approaches the door and stacks up beside it, waiting for Jason to get ready.

Leah grabs her Mattock and begins the motions to reload it, but upon seeing her attackers quick recovery, she manages a "Fuck it." and begins to book it back towards the hangar.

Jason stacks up on the opposite side of the door from Renala. His hands are once again shaking wildly, but he manages a nod and taps the panel to open the door. He follows up by instantly training his LMG on the hall.

The hallway is a mess of debris and chunks of adjutant. There is nothing that moves.

Renala looks at Jason. "Clear?" she whispers.

Steve groans and watches as the adjutant sails out of the hangar. "Where's Renala!?" he asks, his eyes focused on the salarian before adding as somewhat of an afterthought, "Aren't you supposed to be dead?"

Jason manages a quiet "Clear..." before stepping out into the hallway and checking for any stragglers.

Renala follows Jason out into the hallway, training her weapon towards south.

Vaden takes a while to realize that the proto-adjutant is no longer on top of him. "T-... they were right behind us." he manages, still lying on the floor.

Steve glances back towards the door with a sigh. "Well they ain't fucking right behind you no more!" He stands up and reloads his weapon without even bothering to figure out how many shots he had left in his previous thermal clip. "Renala, talk to me." he calls out over comms as he begins moving towards the door.

The miners are now moving up towards the shuttle. Cries of "Set it down!" "Let us in!" can be heard from them.

Renala responds to the comms, whispering, "We were cut off, but we're heading back now."

Leah screeches to a halt as she enters the hangar. "Got one on my six!" she announces. Blood is trailing down her arm and dripping from the tips of her fingers.

Jasper allows the shuttle to continue hovering as he returns to the cargo compartment. He looks down from the open door and shakes his head. "We can't have you all trampling each other to get in. Line up away from the shuttle, and I'll set her down. We'll get you all sorted."

Jason quickly stalks down the hallway towards the main chamber door with his Revenant raised as he looks over the destruction he caused. "Maybe that was all of 'em...?"

The miners seem rather reluctant to wait. One of them actually jumps up and climbs into the shuttle. The rest show no sign of lining up neatly.

Renala nods. "Hopefully," she says as she falls into step beside him.

Steve lowers his head, looking quite relieved upon hearing Renala. "We've got the hangar secured for now, but no idea how long it'll stay that way." As Leah rushes in, he raises his SMG and keeps it trained on the door, waiting for any movement.

Jason stacks up on the door leading to the main chamber. "There was a fuck ton of them..."

Leah slaps a new thermal clip into her Mattock with a fair bit of trouble from her deep wound. She raises the rifle and waits for the adjutant to show itself.

Renala takes position on the other side of the door, waiting for him to open it. "We killed a fuck ton of them, too," she says.

Jason nods, "We sure as hell did." he says with approval before reaching out and tapping the panel.

The proto-adjutant bursts through the hangar door and charges at the group immediately.

As the door opens, they would see a main chamber littered with bodies, but otherwise empty.

Steve unloads half his clip at the adjutant the moment it reveals itself.

Leah joins in on the Pulp Fictioning, firing 10 rounds into the creature with her Mattock.

Renala leans out of cover into the main chamber, aiming up, left and right.

Jasper rolls his eyes at the man climbing in. "Back away from the shuttle!" he orders.

Vaden gets to his feet just about the same time as the lone adjutant is peppered by Steve and Leah's bullets until it drops.

Look clear?

The miners start to settle down, except for one that climbs aboard the shuttle just like the first one did.

Jasper sighs and shakes his head. "Stay outside of the shuttle until we give you the all clear!" he calls out. After a moment, he returns to the cockpit, giving the two miners that climbed aboard a hard stare as he does. A moment later, he sets the shuttle down.

Renala nods and steps into the room. "Yeah, it's clear," she says. "Let's move quickly."

Jason nods and steps out behind Renala. He begins moving back towards the reception area at a swift pace.

There is no sound but their boots against the floor as the two make their way towards the reception.

Leah holsters her weapon on her back and begins to jog towards the shuttle as it sets down. Her hands is pressed tightly against the deep wound, but a large amount of blood is still seeping out. She tries to get the doctor's attention as she wades through the crowd. "I'm out of medi-gel... Could use a hand." she says.

Jason stacks up on the reception area door, panting heavily as he presses his back against the wall. "Almost back, Renala." he says, "Almost back..."

Halisi jumps out of the shuttle just as all the miners start to enter. She moves up to Leah and looks over her arm.

Renala takes cover on the other side of the door to the reception, as well. "Yeah," she says, a small smile creeping into her expression.

Steve approaches the group, but continues to glance back towards the hangar door anxiously.

Leah winces, "Thing got me good." she says, "Slap some medi-gel on it, and I should be fine." She gives a nod towards the miner she helped near the stairs, "Take care of him next. One of those things managed to poke him with that-... Proboscis?" she sighs, unable to come up with a better word for it, "Don't think it caused too much damage, though."

Jason reaches out and taps the panel to open the reception area door. As it slides open, he swings out and scans the room with his LMG raised.

Halisi is in the middle of applying medi-gel to Leah's arm when she suddenly drops the canister and turns around to look at the miners. "Which one?!"

Leah points out the man with her unwounded arm, "Didn't look too bad. A bit of medi-gel should do the trick."

Renala waits outside the door to the reception. "Clear?" she asks.

Steve mutters "Fuck..." and stares at the man for a moment. He gives the doctor a look before wading through the crowd and singling him out. "Come on." he says, patting a gauntleted hand, which is still holding his SMG, against the man's back, "Doctor has to look you over."

The door opens. In the middle of the room stands the asari receptionist, her skin gray and her eyes blank. "You have slain the children of the Revelator..." She says with a saddened tone, not even looking at them.

Not clear...

Jason remains in the reception area's doorway with his weapon trained on the asari. He lowers to a knee to give Renala more firing options.

Halisi quickly moves up to the injured miner. Her eyes widen as she sees the circular wounds. She shakes her head. "I'm sorry... there's nothing I can do."

Steve waits for the man to be preoccupied with the doctor before raising his SMG and firing a single round into the side of the man's head without flinching.

Halisi gasps as the man drops dead in front of her. She remains frozen in place. The rest of the miners all turn to look at Steve, all suddenly going silent.

Renala leans into the doorway to the reception., looking the room over, until her gaze fall on the asari, and she aims her weapon at her.

The asari receptionist shakes her head and slowly looks at Jason. "Father Marchal will be most unhappy." Her gaze moves to Renala. "It wasn't supposed to be this way. It was going to be beautiful."

Steve looks over the crowd, feeling slightly judged as they all stare at him. "It was either that, or we leave him here and let him become one of those creatures." he says, looking back and forth at the crowd, "I'm sure he'd agree that this is the better option." he grunts.

Halisi looks at Steve with distaste and moves into the shuttle without a word. The miners slowly return to what they were doing.

Jason | "Just like Jenya..." he sighs, "Put her down quickly." He squeezes the trigger, firing a dozen rounds towards the asari.

The receptionist drops dead without any resistance.

Vaden continues to observe Steve in silence, cradling his stump.

Leah reels from Steve's gunshot. She stands in place, simply staring at the corpse.

Renala shakes her head as steps into the room, aiming around. "I didn't think she could get any creepier," she mutters.

Jason looks surprised that the asari went down so easily, "That was unexpected..." he mutters, but doesn't linger around too long to ponder on it. He quickly begins to cross the reception area and stack up on the door ahead of them.

Renala nods, and makes her way over to the other side of the door.

Jason anxiously reaches out and interacts with the panel and waits for Renala to give the stair room a sweep.

The stair room is clear.

Renala glances into the stairs room and nods. "Clear," she says before stepping inside.

Steve follows the doctor towards the shuttle. "Did you have a better plan?" he asks as he steps into the shuttle, "If I recall, you said all your attempts failed, ain't that right?" he continues, sounding quite defensive, "Well, my method worked."

Halisi doesn't look at Steve. "That doesn't mean you can just-... what is wrong with you?!"

Jason swings into the room and moves right to the stairs. He quickly begins ascending them with his rifle trained up towards the upper floor.

Renala lets Jason pass her and falls into step behind him, aiming around as well.

(Comms) Heading upstairs now.

The upstairs is also clear.

(Comms) We're ready to take off as soon as you're back.

Jason breathes a sigh of relief and continues towards the hangar with his weapon raised. "Clear!" he calls back to Renala.

They encounter no resistance.

Renala follows after Jason, aiming into the corridor opposite the doorway into the stairs room as she passes it.

Doesn't mean I can... What? Save our fuckin' lives? You said it yourself! They poke you with that thing on their face and you're done, right!? You want to sit in a crowded shuttle with that?

Jason shifts from a jog to a painfully slow walk the moment he enters the hangar. He leans his head back and lets out a loud groan that sits somewhere between exhaustion and elation.

Halisi 's response is rather quiet. "You could've at least asked him what he wanted... given him a chance to say goodbye..."

Renala steps into the hangar, glancing around with a lowered weapon. She follows beside Jason, not walking too fast, either.

Vaden smiles as he sees Jason and Renala. "Good! All here. Let's leave."

Steve shakes his head, "Could've given him a chance to turn into one of those... things, and take another one of my teammates lives?" he gives a humorless chuckle, "No thanks." As he hears Jason, he glances towards the doorway momentarily, "Ya know what? I don't need to explain my actions. We just lost part of our team saving all your asses. A little gratitude wouldn't hurt." he says before moving back towards the shuttle door.

The shuttle is getting quite crowded. It's going to be a tightly packed trip.

Jason continues at his exhausted pace until he reaches the shuttle. He remains outside the shuttle door and slowly turns to face the door they came from. "Fuck this place." he says as he waits for Renala to climb aboard.

Steve holsters his SMG and reaches out towards Renala with his good hand. "You're sure as shit a sight for sore eyes." he says, smiling behind his helmet as if the previous exchange with the doctor never even happened.

Leah smiles as the final two arrive. "Good to see you both still kicking."

Renala arrives a second later than him and steps onboard the shuttle with Steve's help. "Yeah, you too, Steve," she says, a smile forming.

Jason climbs aboard the shuttle with a loud, exhausted grunt. "Jasper..." he pants, "Get us out of here."

Vaden moves into the shuttle soon after the others, nearly being pushed out by a miner.

Jasper waits until everyone is loaded into the sardine can and closes the shuttle doors. "You don't have to ask me twice!" he says. The shuttle lifts a few feet off the ground and the thrusters kick in, allowing the shuttle to reorient itself, before it escapes through the forcefield, "Hold onto 'yer butts!" he calls out.

The hellish asteroid fades away into space much to everyone's relief. Scanners indicate that the MSV Galahad is only a few minutes of FTL away.

Jasper locks in their destination and enters FTL once they're a short distance away from the asteroid. "Next stop, not this place!" he announces.

A few minutes later, the shuttle arrives near the corvette without incident. It was an uneventful and uncomfortable trip.

Jason leans against the shuttle door, panting heavily as he removes his helmet. He looks over the packed shuttle. "Time to go home..."

Renala looks at the ship coming into view, tears starting to trickle down her face as she fails to hold back the strong emotions.

Jasper activates the shuttle's comms. "Redrock Agency hailing MSV Galahad. MSV Galahad, do you copy?"

There is no response.

Steve has removed his helmet and dropped it to the floor. He wraps his good arm tightly around Renala. "I can't believe we made it."

Halisi is standing around in silence.

Vaden looks very happy to be away from the facility.

Administrator is squeezed between two miners, looking very uncomfortable.

Renala sighs, wrapping an arm around him as well. "Yeah..."

Jasper attempts once more as he maneuvers around the outside of the ship to locate the hangar. "Redrock Agency hailing MSV Galahad. MSV Galahad, do you copy?" he repeats.

The ship hangar is open. There is still no response.

Jasper sighs as he pilots the shuttle towards the hangar, "Not getting any response, Jay." he shouts, "I'm gonna set her down in the hangar. Hopefully they don't open fire on us. Would be some shit to survive all that just to drop to friendly fire."

The shuttle would be able to successfully navigate to, and into the hangar. There is just barely enough room to set down in the hangar, due to the other shuttle already in it.

Jason immediately begins to look uncomfortable. He bites his lower lip for a moment before silently replacing his helmet with a pained expression. "Could the comms be malfunctioning on the shuttle, Jasper?" he asks nervously.

Steve looks towards Jason anxiously. "Why wouldn't they answer?"

Renala raises an eyebrow, the relief starting to give way to more worry as if they haven't had enough of that lately. "Fuck," she mutters.

Jasper shakes his head to himself as he spots the shuttle and struggles to set their own down in the cramped space, "Not likely, Jay. I-... I hate to say this, but you might want to get geared up before I open them doors. Our shuttle's here. Looks like those folks that jumped me made a stop." he says, sounding quite dejected.

Jason activates his omni-tool and locks his helmet into place. "Check your weapons..." he says distantly, "Make sure... Make sure you're ready for potential hostiles..." It's clear by his tone that he's not entirely present.

Steve tightly shuts his eyes and removes his arm from around Renala. He crouches down with a groan and collects his helmet. He begins going through the motions of securing it in place and faces the shuttle door as well. "...Ready..." he says as he unholsters his SMG.
