#AsteroidMine – April 2, 2014
The briefing room is ready for use, with most of the chairs unoccupied. Vasquez stands by the wall with the screen in her uniform, looking quite official. Maria sits in one of the chairs already wearing a cheap heavy hardsuit. A young salarian sits in one of the corner chairs fiddling nervously with his fingers.
Renala enters the briefing room from the lobby, looking around the room at the people present. She nods at the three already present before claiming the leftmost desk on the front row.
is wearing a new suit of armor, a fact that should even be obvious to the new people given the clear lack of any dents and scrapes. The plating is mostly navy blue in color, with some darker blue plates on her upper torso. It leaves the inner sides of the arm and leg joints as well as the sides of the waist to rely on the ballistic cloth rather than ablative plates.
Leah is seated at her desk in her blue hardsuit with her Mattock folded up on her back. Her long blonde hair is pulled into a tight ponytail. She's calmly waiting for the briefing to begin.
Jason is fiddling with the coffee machine in the corner, cursing softly under his breath. He's fully geared up in his blue-and-white hardsuit with his Revenant on his back and Phalanx on his thigh. His helmet is sitting on the table beside him.
Alex walks into the room, keeping her eyes straight ahead as she sits down in the second row of desks. Alex looks calm, but quickly loses her composure as she almost falls when attempting to sit down. She is wearing some old armor with plenty of scratches, and one particularly large dent on the left of her stomach.
Vasquez observes the new arrivals in silence. She raises an eyebrow when Alex has trouble sitting, but moves on soon.
Jason glances over at Alex as she arrives. With a sigh, he steps to Vasquez' side, coffee cup in hand. "Alright..." he starts, keeping his tone low as he takes a sip of his coffee. He pauses momentarily as the overpowering taste catches him off guard and causes him to grimace. "I gotta ask... What's with the tagalongs? You know that one..." he nods towards Maria, "...has a bit of history with Renala? Wish you would've talked to me about this first."
Renala turns in her chair to watch the two others entering, and tilting her head at the young woman. She couldn't tell her age, but her face surely didn't match the armor's wear and tear. She didn't speak, though, as she turned back to look at Vasquez and Jason.
Steve enters the room and gives a look around. "Evenin'." he says to nobody in particular before claiming a desk beside Renala. He shifts uncomfortably in his seat as he speaks to the asari. "Good to see a friendly face, Ren." he says before giving a quick glance in Maria's direction.
Vasquez glances at Jason before looking out at the others once again as she responds with a whisper, although a bit delayed. "I want to increase the size of our team. Had to make do with what I could find on such a short notice."
Alex now fully realizes that everyone that had seen, and sets her head down on the desk, now extremely embarrassed. In an attempt to distract herself, Alex begins fiddling with the pistol holstered on her side.
Renala looks up at Steve with a smile. "It's good to see you too, Steve," she says as she turns her chair to face him. "How's it going?"
Jenya walks into the room and takes a look around before finding the seat furthest from anyone else. She's an asari matron wearing a black commando outfit with a sword sheathed on her back and a Tempest holstered on her hip. The right side of her face has heavy scarring, as does her head crests.
Renala raises an eyebrow as she notices the asari. "Well, just when I thought I knew most of the people here," she mutters, to herself mostly.
Jason sighs and looks over the new recruits. "I know that one, too." he says, pointing indiscreetly towards Alex, "Met her at the Respite. Friend of one of the bartenders there. We got to talking and she was telling me how she just doesn't have it in her to hurt someone." he says, deadpanning Vasquez in a manner that says 'Did you seriously hire her?'
Steve smiles and nods at Renala. "You know... It's going. Just excited to be in the field, finally." he says. Upon Renala's comment on Jenya, he gives a look towards her, but remains quiet.
Steve sets his helmet on the desk he's seated at. His armor is still unpainted, just a flat metallic color with scratches and dings all over.
Vasquez glances at Jason once again. "I told you, I took what I could find. Will you stop second-guessing me?" She mutters before looking over the group and starting to speak loudly to the room: "Alright, looks like that's everyone. Today we're going on a job for Londinium Galactic. One of their mines stopped responding to comms, and we're gonna investigate. We don't know what we'll be facing, but to be safe we've brought in some new faces to bolster our numbers. If we like what we see we might just let you stay." She pauses for a bit before continuing.
Renala returns the smile. "I'm glad to have you along in the field," she says before turning her chair back to face Vasquez when she starts speaking, keeping quiet.
Maria looks around at the others with a grin, stopping to nod at Steve and Renala before turning forward again.
Jason shrugs and returns towards the table as Vasquez speaks, muttering under his breath. He lifts a leg up and sits at the corner. After one more small sip of his coffee, he cringes and tosses the nearly-full cup into the nearby garbage as he licks at the roof of his mouth in an attempt at getting rid of the horrendous taste.
Vaden jumps slightly in his seat as Vasquez begins to speak, folding his hands and blinking a few times as he listens.
Vasquez continues. "One of Londinium Galactic's escort corvettes will be transporting us to the system, which is located near the Nimean Abyss. That's reason enough for me to suspect a Batarian raiding party, but we don't know. Our objective is to assess the situation and make sure the personnel is safe. If possible we will secure the facility and re-establish communications. We don't know the condition of the facility, so make sure your gear is space-worthy. For the new faces, know that we work together here, and putting a member of the team in unwilling danger will not be tolerated. Any questions?"
Assuming we're able to locate their personnel, what's our protocol for dealing with them? Are we authorized to return fire on them if fired upon? If they have survived some sort of hostile attack, they may not be willing to simply trust our intentions.
Vasquez looks caught off-guard by the question. "Wha-... no. You may not fire on Londinium Galactic personnel. Bring them in alive. If absolutely necessary, incapacitate."
Steve puts up a hand, but doesn't wait to be addressed. "Well, since nobody else is asking... What's the haul on this one?" he asks.
Vasquez moves her gaze to Steve and responds. "Depends on if we're able to get the workers out safely, the state of the facility, and if there's any resistence. So do a good job. T'Iavay?"
Vasquez responds immediatly. "Londinium Galactic have been reluctant to share the details of their systems, but there shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary. Hopefully the facility VI is still online, and able to assist. If not, I trust you will be able to handle any problems. I think Londinium is sending someone of their own along to assist."
Renala nods. "Got it," she says. "I haven't worked with VIs, though, so don't expect me to change that one's mind if that becomes necessary."
And what about collateral damage? If they're unwilling to give us information on their security, do we have permission to bypass it by whatever means we deem necessary, should it come to that?
Vasquez nods. "Yes, but it is going to affect our payment. Try to keep collateral damage to a minimum, but the personnel is top priority."
Alex frowns, "Sorry, this is actually a serious question. Do you know how advanced the VI is? Or anything else?"
Vasquez shakes her head. "Not really. Should be what you'd expect from a mine. Anything else, or are we ready to head out?"
Jason claps his gauntlets together and stands from his seat on the edge of the table. He scoops up his helmet and takes a couple steps towards Vasquez. "Always ready." he gloats.
Vasquez waits a little longer and then nods to herself. "Alright! Gear up if you haven't already, and then get to the shuttle hangar."
Steve stands from his seat and grabs his helmet. He looks around, seeming a bit unclear on where to go.
Leah rises to her feet and collects her helmet from her desk. She gives Vasquez a silent nod before continuing through a doorway on the right-hand side of the room.
Alex stands up and walks to the door she came through, grabbing the helmet she left on the floor. She awkwardly follows Leah, through wherever because Alex is lost.
Renala stands up and picks up her helmet, before starting to make her way towards the door to the shuttle hangar. She has two SMGs on her person, one in a holster on each thigh.
Steve follows right behind Renala, casting an awkward glance back at Maria before disappearing through the doorway.
A couple of hours later, the team has landed the shuttle in the Londinium Galactic ship, and the shuttle door opens to reveal a small hangar that couldn't hold another shuttle. A man in a blue corporate uniform with a matching cap carrying the Londinium Galactic logo of two stylized pickaxes crossing stands there to greet them.
O'Clery extends a hand towards Vasquez with a polite smile. "Welcome to the MSV Galahad. We will be taking you to the Ogofau mining facility."
Vasquez shakes O'Clery's hand. "Chief Vasquez. My team will get your situation sorted out. How long until we get there?"
Steve climbs out of the shuttle with his helmet under his arm. He scrutinizes the uniformed man, but remains quiet.
Renala has been quiet for most of the trip, getting a bit of a nap during the time, since she probably needed it. She did wake up a minute ago, though. She steps out of the shuttle with her helmet in hand.
O'Clery looks at some of the others as they exit. "It will be about three days travel after the relay jump."
Renala raises a hand, though doesn't wait for any acknowledgement. "And I'm guessing there'll be no extranet connection for these three days?"
Vaden exits, accidentally bumping in to Steve on his way out. He's wearing a common salarian armor with a sky blue coloration and is armed with a Shuriken only.
Renala nods. "I see," she says, "how long until we drop out of range?" For some reason, that was the most pressing issue to her right now.
Steve continues to eye Vaden for a moment before turning his attention back to O'Clery and folding his arms across his chest, causing his helmet to clank loudly.
O'Clery takes a moment to respond. "Uhm... a few hours at most. Come on and I'll show you to your accomodations."
Renala nods, sighing relieved. "Good, at least the ex won't kill me when I get back," she says with a chuckle, exaggerating before falling into step behind Jason.
Steve frowns and looks towards Renala. "Might wanna give your daughter a call before we get too far out." he says as he follows the asari.
Renala nods. "Yeah, exactly," she says with a frown. "The kid worries when I don't answer her calls for a night. I can't even think about how six days would be for her."
O'Clery shows the group down a hallway and up a short stair to a door. He stops to open it, revealing a room filled with tightly packed bunks, each with a small storage locker. There is little else in the room. "Dinner in two hours, I'll be in the room two doors up the corridor if you have any questions." He offers a smile and heads off to said door.
Jenya follows in silence, and enters the room once they reach it, immediately claiming the top bunk to the right of the door.
Jason nods and steps into the room. He gives a look around and lets out a large sigh. "Anyone farts and we're docking your pay." he says, obviously kidding.
Leah steps into the room and rolls her eyes at Jason's obnoxiousness as she takes a seat on a random bunk. She sets her helmet beside her and looks towards the others. "Not ideal, but it'll do." she says.
Renala chuckles as she takes one of the bunks nearest the middle of the wall opposite the entrance door. She chuckles, "I'm honestly expecting Atana on the next mission now, she'll fit right in." Her tone isn't serious, though, but is an unsubtle joke about some of the new people here.
Steve takes a bunk beside Renala and tosses his helmet down on the bed. "Hmm?" he asks as he hears Renala's comment, not quite getting the joke.
Jason remains by the door and gives Alex the finger as she makes her remark. "That's alright. Senority gives you farting priveleges." he jokes.
Jasper finally catches up with the group after giving the shuttle systems a once over. "Whew, cramped in here, ain't it?" he says loudly as he steps through the door with a big smile on his face.
Renala puts her helmet down and starts removing some of her armor pieces on the arms. "Well, one of them seems scared of their own shadow," she says, not being very specific, "and then there's the kid."
Maria enters the room and claims the bunk above Renala, putting her M-451 in the locker and then jumping up with out bothering to remove her armor.
Jason paces over towards Alex' bunk and raises an eyebrow. "What changed your mind, kid?" he asks, sounding somewhat concerned, "The other day at the Respite, it sounded like this was the last thing in the galaxy you'd want to be doing..."
Vaden finally chooses the bunk below Alex' and puts his weapons in the locker before stripping his armor.
Renala shakes her head. "I hardly know many of these people," she says. "They must have picked up some new people for this job."
Jenya puts her sword under her pillow and the SMG in the locker and then lies down in her bunk, staring at the ceiling in silence.
Vasquez moves away from the wall after everyone starts to settle in. "I'm going to go have a word with the captain, I'll be back."
Steve begins removing the plating from his armor plating as well, setting it on his bed beside his helmet. He gives Renala a shrug. "What do you make of 'em?" he asks.
Jason sighs, resting his hands against the bunk as he looks up at Alex. "You know this could be dangerous, right?" he asks, "You need to be sure that you're ready for whatever's out there."
Leah begins dressing down as well. She places her helmet and armor plating in the locker in a very neat and ordered manner.
Renala thinks for a moment. "They're.... I'm not sure," she says. "I was about to suggest a round of introductions, since we're going to be fighting together if things go to hell."
Steve gives a nod. "Never a bad idea to know who's watchin' your back." he says before resting his eyes on Maria, "Or who's driving the dagger into it." he adds with a sigh.
Alex nods, "I know. I'm.. I'm ready for this, I can do it. I promise." She smiles at Jason, and awkwardly pats his hands.
Vaden stands up, having heard what Renala said he doesn't waste any time. "Greetings, team. I am Sur’Kesh Delaros Dunb Abimuno Nummol Noran Vaden. Looking forward to working will all of you. And testing new combat techniques. And getting out alive. Yes. Hopefully." He nods and looks around with a smile.
Jason nods silently a few times. "Yeah..." he says, "Just keep calm and listen, and everything will be fine." A lopsided smile crosses his face. As the salarian begins rattling off his name, Jason turns on his heels to watch him and folds his arms across his chest. "Now say it five times fast." he says.
Steve smirks and continues to remove his armor plating, "Got a shorter version of that, buddy?" he asks.
Vaden blinks and nods. "Very well. Sur’Kesh Delaros Dunb Abimuno Nummol Noran Vaden. Sur’Kesh Delaros Dunb Abimuno Nummol Noran Vaden-..." he starts with the relentless speed only a salarian can manage.
Vaden continues since he isn't interrupted. "Sur’Kesh Delaros Dunb Abimuno Nummol Noran Vaden. Sur’Kesh Delaros Dunb Abimuno Nummol Noran Vaden. Sur’Kesh Delaros Dunb Abimuno Nummol Noran Vaden." After he's done he looks at Jason and tilts his head. "Have better use of time."
Renala shakes her head, chuckling. "No way I'm able to recite that from memory," she says. "You fine with just Noran or Vaden?"
Renala stands up, glancing over the room. "My name is Renala T'Iavay," she begins her introduction. "I've been with the agency for a while and handles the tech on the jobs, which means getting doors open and getting terminals to spill their secrets."
Renala returns the smile. "You too, kid," she says as she sits down. "Would you mind telling us a little about yourself?"
Leah smiles politely at Renala and nods. "Glad to finally have the opportunity to work with you, Renala. Mendez has said good things about you."
Steve continues fiddling with his armor, removing straps and such. "What's your expertise?" he asks, "Any training?"
Alex seems shocked at the question. "I'm into tech stuff, but I'm open to learn anything.. I have training from school, and working with my mom." She shrugs slightly.
Renala looks towards Leah, returning the smile. "Thanks," she says. "I'm looking forward to working with you, ..." she trails off, having forgotten the woman's name.
Leah gives Maria an icy stare. "That's not funny." She looks towards Alex with a smile, "You've got nothing to worry about."
Alex frowns at Maria, then smiles back at Leah, "Nah, it's fine. Just gives me more motivation to prove her wrong." She chuckles.
Renala smirks at Jason's response. "I was just joking," she says before looking up at Alex. "Remind me to go over my programs with you, Alex, and test if they work on your 'tool."
Vaden looks around, and, due to the silence, decides to speak. "I have mentioned my name. Am self-taught. Omni-tool combat support is my speciality."
Alex nods at Renala's comment, "Will do. I could use some new stuff to play around with." She smiles.
Leah folds her hands in front of her and looks around the room. "My name is Leah Mercier." she says, speaking clearly and calmly, "I've been working for the agency for some time now. I'm not too bad with a rifle, but I specialize in close quarters combat. I'll spare you the details, but I'm trained in a wide array of martial arts." she says.
Leah 's final armor plating rises off the bed and she snatches it out of the air. "Not a bad biotic, either." she adds with a small smile before storing the final article of armor in her locker.
Jenya sits up, and briefly glances at Leah to make note of who was speaking. She offers a nod at the human, her expression remaining the just as serious as it has been for the entirety of the trip so far.
Renala smiles at Leah. "It's good to have you by our side, Leah," she says. She raises her eyebrow at the asari, looking at her expectantly, possibly for an introduction.
Renala shakes her head at Maria before looking at the other asari with a tilted head. "Come on, I'd like to get to know you if we're going to be spending the next six days on this ship," she says. "Please?"
Jenya looks at Renala and nods after a moment's consideration. "I am Jenya. I am good with biotics and better with my sword. You can count on me." Her expression never changes as she speaks, and her tone only slightly so.
Renala nods, smiling at the asari. "Nice to meet you, Jenya," she says. "I can't say I'll be comfortable laying down fire with you in the middle of it, though."
Steve stops removing his armor momentarily to put a hand up. "Steve Briggs." he says plainly as he returns to what he was doing, "Nothing too interesting about me. Been working for the agency for a little while, but this'll be my first time out in the field for 'em." He glances between Renala and Alex before continuing, "Couldn't hack a terminal to save my life. But I do well enoughs with a weapon."
Renala smiles, continuing to work on getting her armor off. "I'll say it again, I'm happy to have you along on a job like this, Steve."
Jason looks around and gives a shrug. He remains leaning against the bunk as he speaks. "Jason." he says, "Me and Chief Vasquez are the brains behind Redrock." He shrugs once again, "Well, I'm the brains. I just keep her around to boost her self esteem." he chuckles. "Anyways, I've been involved in work like this for a while now. Can handle a rifle pretty well, if I do say so myself. I'll make sure we all make it home."
Steve takes a seat on his bed as he gets off the last of his armor plating. "Back acthya, Ren. Quite a mixed bag we've got here..."
Jasper has been sitting on an open bed this whole time, silently listening. He smiles cheerfully as he speaks, "Names Jasper. I make sure Redrock's gear is all functioning and fly the shuttle when nobody else can. You folks are in good hands." he nods.
The trip has passed uneventfully, aside from a small confrontation between Maria and Vaden. Maria has spent most of her time either tinkering with her flamethrower or making people uncomfortable. Vaden has been happy to chat with the others if approached, but has mostly kept to himself otherwise. Jenya has had no interaction with anyone else, either practicing with her sword in the hangar or reading on a datapad. Vasquez has been away to talk with the ship crew a lot, but hasn't talked much to the team outside of Jason. O'Clery is the only one from the ship crew that has interacted with the team - it seems there is no one else on the same deck as them.
Steve is laying on his bed with his hands behind his head. His armor is stowed away in the locker and he's currently wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and a pair of black baggy fatigues.
Leah is wearing her hardsuit. Like clockwork, she's put it on every day as soon as she wakes up. She's currently sitting on her bed looking over a datapad.
Alex is doodling with her omni-tool, while walking in circles. She's wearing a bright colored sleeveless shirt, and a pair of purple pants.
Renala sent off a message home shortly after their rounds of introduction three days ago, due to the time being too late in Armali to make a call. Since then, she has had her fair share of interaction with some of the others, and did instruct Alex (if let) on the use of her software to get doors open yesterday, tweaking it a little to support her omni-tool's specifications.
is currently laying down on the bed, waiting for a message over the intercomm. The asari is wearing a dark-gray set of pants and a top that covers most of her aside from her neck up, and her hands. Not knowing that the trip was three days, it's the only outfit she's worn.
Renala nods faintly. "Mhm," she says, sitting up. "I'm just hoping she doesn't worry. I told her I'll be out of extranet range for six days, maybe seven."
Vaden is trying to see how strong a current he can run through Jasper using his omni-tool without waking the human up.
Jason is sitting against the wall in the hall just outside of the room with the bunks. A plate of food is on the floor beside him.
Renala nods. "And aren't we the most normal bunch of mercs you've ever seen," she says jokingly followd by a chuckle.
Steve lifts his head off the bed a bit and glances towards Alex. He slowly looks towards Renala and sighs.
Jasper shuffles for a moment and snorts loudly. He smacks his lips a few times and the loud snoring continues.
Renala looks over at Alex with a warm smile. "I'm starting to like you," she admits, "but can't say I'm happy about bringing you to potential danger."
Alex laughs, "I can handle myself." She giggles, "If guns and biotics fail, I am a damn good runner." Alex smirks and rolls over on the floor.
Vasquez enters the corridor Jason is sitting in, stopping briefly when she reaches him. "Gather the others, we're about to exit FTL." She continues down the corridor to the hangar and is soon followed by O'Clery and another Londinium Galactic employee. They're both wearing light security outfits with emergency breathers attached at their belts.
Renala smirks. "I don't doubt that for a second," she says, "but we're a team. If your guns and biotics fall, get your head down behind cover, okay?"
Jason sighs and climbs to his feet, giving a salute to Vasquez' back. He leaves the plate on the ground and mutters under his breath as he enters the room with the bunks. "Alright people. We'll be exiting FTL soon." he says as he enters, dusting some crumbs off of his hands and onto the floor, "That means it's time to suit up."
Jenya nods at Vasquez and the others as they enter the hangar. She remains there since she's already geared up.
Maria grins with excitment at the thought of stuff to burn, and gets on her feet, going over to the locker and starting to slip into her armor.
Renala nods to Jason and starts picking her armor pieces out of the locker, starting to get on the 'squish-skin' undersuit.
Jasper lets out a large snore before stirring and rolling over. "Time to go...?" he asks as he rubs the sleep out of his eyes.
Vaden quickly moves away rom Jasper, pretending like nothing and starting to gear up, eager to get off the ship.
Jason gives Jasper a nod. "Mmmhmm." he says as her moves to his locker and begins removing his gear. "Make sure you've got everything you need. Helmets are a must. Spare thermal clips..." he rattles off a short list of objects as he begins disrobing and pulling his underskin on, "...Med-gel. Omni-tool..."
Vaden is geared up in the blink of an eye, grabbing his Shuriken last and jogging down to the hangar, lining up next to Jenya.
Alex smirks at the list that is being named, "Oh no, I forgot my gun. Whatever shall I do?" She says, her voice leaking with sarcasm. She holsters her pistol, and finishes doodling on her omnitool.
Steve stands from his bed and reaches into his pocket. He removes his small bottle of pills and taps a couple into his hand before quickly tossing them into his mouth. "Got it." he says as he begins gearing up.
Jason glances over his shoulder at Alex. "You joke, but you never know... All it takes is a lapse and before you know it, you're out there with a wound you can't treat because nobody has any medi-gel."
Maria is soon done putting on her armor. She grabs her Predator, the Firestorm, an omni-gel canister and locks two spare fuel tanks in place on her back.
Renala finishes getting the undersuit on, quite quickly as she did take off her other clothes save her underwear before -- trusting the others to keep their eyes where they belong. She begins putting on the armor pieces, a little slowly as she just bought the suit before going on this job.
Jason gears up with the practiced speed of someone who wears a hardsuit daily. He pulls his gauntlets on last and holsters his weapons. "Good to hear." he says as he grabs his helmet out of the locker, "Get down to the hangar."
Steve may have sent a glance or two in Renala's direction. "So that's the new gear?" he asks as Renala begins armoring up.
Maria realizes she's forgotten her helmet, grabbing it from the locker - it is of the visor-less variety, with two round eyeslots instead. She heads off to the hangar and gets in line.
Jenya puts her helmet - currently clipped to her belt - on. It is a fairly tight-fitting all-black plastic helmet with a large, equally black visor.
Jason checks a couple compartments on his hardsuit and, once satisfied, makes his way down to the hangar. He continues over to Vasquez' side as he reaches them, giving her a quick wink.
Renala was too focused on getting the suit on to notice any glances in her direction. "It's a huge step up from the last one," she says, working on her arms' armor pieces. "It even automatically applies medi-gel, uh, not that I have tested, or want to test that yet."
Leah finally sets her datapad down and hops off her bed just behind Jason. She grabs her helmet out of her locker and follows the man down to the hangar where she steps into line with the others.
Steve chuckles to himself. "Let's hope we won't get the chance to." he says as he tugs on his helmet. It's the standard helmet worn by Eclipse (Minus the paint) that somewhat resembles the recon hood. His voice takes on a metallic tone once he locks the helmet in place, "Worst case scenario, we still have the old-fashioned way." he says as he holds up a medi-gel cannister in front of his face before tucking it away.
Jasper seems to still be quite cheerful, despite his groggy state. He smiles at Renala and Steve and gives them a nod before making his way to the hangar.
Renala chuckles. "Yeah, that we do," she says, "but if it works, though, it'll be great." She eventually finishes putting on the armor and stands up.
Steve nods as he scoops up his bottle of pills and makes sure the cap is on tight before storing them away in a compartment. "Well.." he says, his voice echoing through the helmet, "Let's hope these jokers don't get us killed." He gives Renala a quick pat on the shoulder before exiting into the corridor and joining up with the others.
Vasquez twitches slightly and looks as if she's about to fall over but steadies herself within the second. She moves a hand to her temple implant and mutters to herself.
Renala finishes up with her gear and packing the clips and the one grenade into compartments on her armor, as well as the holsters'. She makes her way to join the other.
Vasquez brings up a screen on her omni-tool, taking a moment to read something and then looks out at the team to make sure everyone is present. "Alright, we've arrived at the Ogofau Asteroid Mine. There are no hostile ships present at this time, but the station docking port is occupied by a freighter. The captain tells me it was scheduled to pick up a shipment here and was not heard from again. You will have to go in via shuttle. After dropping you off we will move away in case there are hostile ships lurking in the area. Try to get the station comms online. We will make a pass in a few hours to check up on your status. We don't know what's happened but it looks like the hostiles have already left. They might come back though - we'll have your back if we spot any ships. Oh, Security Officers Paul O'Clery and Sophia Dasgupta will be coming along to assist you." She gestures at the Londinium personnel.
Renala listens to Vasquez and nods as she finishes her speech, but does not have anything to ask or say.
Jasper nods and steps past Vasquez. "Give me a few minutes to run a system check and we'll be good to go." he says as he opens the shuttle door and climbs in.
O'Clery looks at the others with a smile. "We've already met, but I'm Officer O'Clery. I'll be helping you folks out - so will Dasgupta here. Let's get going!"
Renala tilts her head at his last sentence, but lets it go as she heads for the shuttle and takes a seat opposite the salarian.
Maria enters the shuttle and tries to sit down. bumping her fuel tanks against the wall. She mutters to herself and decides removes them before sitting next to Renala.
Steve gives Renala a glances before moving towards the shuttle and hopping in. He takes a seat beside Renala.
Leah climbs onboard and seats herself on the other side of Alex. She shifts a bit, but sits up straight.
Vasquez grabs Jason's hand before he moves, putting her other hand on his cheek and pulling him in for a kiss - something she hasn't done in quite a while. "You get back in one piece. Okay?" She whispers, looking at him, clearly concerned.
Jason looks a bit caught off guard by Vasquez' sudden display of affection. A lopsided smile crosses his lips and he places a hand on the woman's shoulder. "I'll be back before you even realize I'm gone." he says. He gives her a wink and hops on the shuttle, gripping a handhold to pull himself up.
Vasquez watches Jason and then the rest of the team board the shuttle in silence, arms folded across her chest.
Steve leans forward, looking past Renala and at Maria. "Let's hope this one goes better than last time."
O'Clery boards the shuttle and seats himself next to Jasper at the co-pilot's seat. He nods at him. "Hey. Nice shuttle."
Dasgupta is the last one onto the shuttle. She seats herself next to Jenya and looks around at the others.
Jason remains standing for a moment, goofy grin still present, before finally shuffling into an open seat.
Jasper gives a shrug as he adjusts a few things. "It gets us where we're going." he says with a smile. Once everyone is onboard, the shuttle doors begin to close and Jasper pokes his head out to look down the hall into the cargo compartment. "Ladies, gentlemen, and Jason... Harnesses on, and keep your hand in the ride at all times!" he announces.
Renala smiles sheepishly as she puts on the harness she totally didn't forget about, a smirk forming during his announcement.
Maria tries to figure out where to put her fuel tanks, eventually putting them on the floor while she buckles up. She then picks them back up and holds them in her arms.
Jason harnesses up and begins looking over his helmet before placing it over his head and locking it into place.
Renala enables her omni-tool and checks the status on her armor's system, which she already did back in the bunk room.
Alex smiles when she sees Renala get up her omni-tool and does the same, fiddling with the programs and such that she had been given by the asari.
The hangar doors open up (slowly) to reveal... space. There is, of course, a forcefield in place to prevent the tragic loss of Vasquez and misc. crates. The shuttle comms come to life: "Shuttle you are cleared to go. Good luck."
Jasper nods to himself, "Acknowledged." he says before poking at the shuttles interface swiftly. The shuttle lifts straight up before the thrusters kick in, allowing Jasper to straighten the Kodiak out before exiting the ship in expert fashion.
Jasper continues prodding at the interface. After a moment, he gives a quick shout of, "Hold onto 'yer butts!" before the Kodiak enters FTL.
Renala grins at Alex before letting her own omni-tool's interface dissipate after she's happy with seeing every system is reporting back that they're in order.
Jason looks towards Sophia. "So... What kind of security are we looking at?" he asks, gripping his harness with one hand.
Dasgupta shrugs. "Well... the station might be on lockdown but we should be able to override that. There's a few anti-ship turrets. But those won't fire on us. The station has few security officers and a mech compliment to deal with raiders. I guess they've been overrun though. Or maybe the comms are just out. Can always hope, right?" She smiles a bit nervously.
Jasper continues looking over the interface. After a short while, the Kodiak exits FTL and Jasper pokes at the interface a few more times. "Here we are, folks..." he calls out.
Renala nods. "What's the chance they could make the turrets fire on us?" she says, "given they've been overrun." She glances at the viewport as they exit FTL.
The mine is placed on a fairly flat area of the asteroid. The rock bends heavily where the facility docking port is place, giving good room for a ship. A Kowloon-class freighter is docked there. From a distance the main facility, a nearby round structure, and the mine entrance can be seen. The shuttle is not fired upon. The hangar is visible and has the doors open, with a forcefield in place. The facility seems mostly dark otherwise.
Jasper calls out once again, "Hangar doors are open." he says, "I'm gonna attempt to hail them over comms as we make our approach." He continues to tap at the interface as he scans for any open comm lines.
Steve shifts slightly in his seat. "You'd think they'd have that place locked down by now if it had changed hands." he muses aloud.
Renala puts on her helmet as they near the time. "Yeah," she agrees with steve as she enables and taps on her omni-tool to have the helmet lock onto the armor and seal it.
Jason starts loosening his harness. "We'll find out soon enough. Not gonna complain about not being shot at, though." he smirks.
Jasper sighs as the shuttle descends. "I'm not finding anything. Looks like we're going in blind." he says. The Kodiak slowly hovers into the hangar.
Jason raises an eyebrow as he glances over at Maria. "It's a real joy to have you around, you know that?" he groans.
Renala frowns. "We'll have to make sure we don't suffocate anyone, though," she says, "in case their life-support isn't meant to handle a fire." Her helmet has a blank visor which makes her eyes visible, but her mouth and nose is mostly covered by the helmet when environmentally sealed.
The hangar has plenty plenty of room for the shuttle with only one other shuttle in it. The only illumination comes from the blue glow of the forcefield. Some crates and repair equipment is barely visible along the walls of the room. There is a single door to the left, with no holographic display. The room has atmosphere and there is gravity according to scanners.
Jasper sets the Kodiak down smoothly. "Scanners are showing sufficient atmosphere." he says, "You're good to go." He glances over at O'Clery with a somewhat nervous look on his face. A button-press later and the Kodiak's doors slide open.
Jason lifts his harness off and stands up. First thing he does is pull his Revenant from his back. "Everybody out!" he shouts before taking a few steps towards the door and hopping out. He actives the light on his helmet and sweeps over the hangar with his Revenant.
Maria unbuckles and reattaches her fuel tanks. She then grabs her flamethrower and moves out, scanning the room. "Dark as shit in here." She turns on her helmet light.
Renala lets go of the harness and stands up in her seat. She then makes her way out of the shuttle. She unholsters her locust and loads a clip into it.
Steve lifts his harness off and climbs to his fee. He presses a hand against the wall to balance himself. He pre-emptively actives his headlight upon hearing the others and steps out of the shuttle. He unholsters his SMG and holds it at his side.
Jenya removes her harness and moves out without a weapon drawn, but clearly on high alert. She doesn't activate any light.
Jasper exits the cockpit and comes to a halt in the storage compartment. "I'll be here with our ride. You folks need to get out of here lickety split, just give me a heads up." he says.
Alex takes off her harness, and jumps out of the shuttle. She turns on her helmet light, and pulls out her pistol.
O'Clery moves out and unholsters his Carnifex. Upon seeing the dark he mumbles something about not bringing a light.
Leah removes her harness and follows the others out of the shuttle. She unholsters her Mattock and follows suit by activating her helm-light.
Dasgupta stands up and unholsters her Avenger. She looks at Jasper. "I'll stay here, make sure you're safe."
Jasper smiles at the woman. He moves into the hall and opens one of the small lockers. "You think that's necessary?" he asks as he removes an Avenger, "I'm not one to toss a pretty lady out, but wouldn't you be more use to them?"
Renala enables her omni-tool, and taps on it a few times before activating her helmet's light, as well.
Jason looks towards O'Clery. "Looks clear down here. I'm assuming you know the layout of this place?" he asks, "Any suggestions on where to start?"
O'Clery nods. "I'm thinking we should start with checking the living quarters. Security protocol is for the workers to hide there during an attack. That's on the lower level." He starts moving towards the door.
Vaden follows O'Clery towards the door. "Hm. Seems to be missing the control pad. Door systems offline?"
Steve follows the group silently. He watches off to the sides, cautiously, aiming his helm's light into the darkness.
Jason follows behind O'Clery, continuing to sweep to the sides to keep watch for any signs of movement. "Sounds like a plan." he says, "But what about this darkness? If you can get us to a place where my people can work, maybe we can see about getting some of these systems online."
O'Clery looks at Jason. "Looks like the place is running on the backup generators. Those are located on this floor."
Renala enabes her omni-tool and tries to see if there are any wireless systems in the door that's still online. "I can handle it, I think," she says.
Renala sighs. "I think the door lacks power. Anyone spot a control panel or something nearby?" She glances around the room, using her helmet's light.
Renala looks over the plate by the door, trying to see if there are any ways to open it or get an interface.
Jason looks around for a moment, as if he'd recognize what she was looking for even if it was right before his eyes... Which, seemingly, it is.
Renala looks over the wires and circuit boards, trying to spot if anything was tampered with. While the asari's specialized in software, knowing the workings of a door is invaluable when trying to get past the high-level systems.
Renala frowns. "Seems to just be a lack of power," she says, before glancing at the salarian. "Do you think you can use your omni-tool to power it enough to get it open? It looked like you were trying to do that with Jasper back on the ship..."
Jason raises an eyebrow and glances back at the salarian suspiciously, but quickly returns his attention towards keeping watch.
Vaden nods. "Certainly." He moves over to the panel, crouching down and tapping on his omni-tool interface. A flash of electricity appears and the doors open before becoming unpowered again.
Alex looks around for bit before going through the newly opened door, look around at the new set of surroundings.
Jason remains off to the side, keeping watch behind them. "And that's why I keep you around, Renala... I would've just blown the damn thing open."
The door reveals a small, rectangular room with two doors on the right side and one door on the left. It is empty. None of the doors appear to have power.
