#MSVJackOfDiamonds – December 16, 2017

This logfile is imported from aitelogs2 and may contain errors or wrong timestamps.

Another 'night' has passed aboard the Jack of Diamonds, and with it another cooked meal for those that wanted it. Now the moment of arrival in the system with the fuel depot is rapidly approaching. Lucy has notified Jason of their imminent arrival. Elena is in the cargo hold, armored up in her personalized Ajax armor. She's currently in her corner, looking over the drone she was working on the day before. Senya too is down

there, wearing an armor vest under her coat, as well as rigging for medical equipment. She's holding a battered old rifle of asari design, with a sleek wooden stock.

Jason has informed the others to gear up and prepare for their arrival. Despite his obvious concern during the trip, news of their arrival seems to have flipped that switch in him that allows his Alliance training to take over. Weapons were passed out and orders given. One of the Avengers (As well as a Predator) was supplied to Ilyna and the other Avenger to Zaylus. The final Predator was left with Halisi. Better safe than

sorry. Nathan was left in charge of a Firestorm, the second going to Jattic. Ehanis is cautiously gifted a Cobra, with Jason giving a brief lesson on which end is the dangerous one. One he ensured Jessica sat in on before he gave her the second one. She hasn't put it down since and had to be told to stop aiming it around (And by around that, of course, means at Nathan) and shouting "BAM!". Along with his Revenant, he has

a Katana shotgun folded up and holstered on his back. His Phalanx is at his right thigh and his combat knife is sheathed across his chestplate as he locks his helmet into place and steps out into the cargo hold.

Nathan is sat to the side, finishing the last diagnostic of his armour system. The mercenary looks like a one man arsenal with the array of weapons, explosives and gear attached to his body. Grenades of various forms, his trusty M-100 on his back alongside his newly acquired Firestorm, Argus being tweaked for the last time, Predator folded at his hip and his knife stowed away snugly in his gauntlet. His unique

helmet sits by his side upon a crate, his omni-tool hooked up the HUD as it visibly runs final routines to ensure complete functionality in the field. His face is set in stone, his own Peacekeeper training kicking in as he focuses on the task set before him. He ignores Jessica's... actions as he glances to Leah, passing a single nod to her before he detaches his omni-tool, tucks his helmet under his arm and

walks out to stand next to Jason.

Oxaris had visibly relaxed after her spar with Zaylus, passing him some hints and tips to help the younger turian improve. Now, she stands fully armoured, her Vindicator stowed on her back and her modified SMG at her hip. She has claimed a few flashbangs, but seems to carry little else bar spare ammo. She slips on her helmet, screaming skull emblazoned on the front and watches the others, waiting for them all to file o

-out before her.

Ilyna has only been awake for half an hour, having given up on sleep after waking up 3 times this morning; she did get 6 hours of unbroken sleep before that. She's with the others down in the hold, as geared up as she can be on loaned equipment. She hasn't been very talkative today, even less so than yesterday as there's only one thing on her mind: the coming mission.

Ehanis scoffed at the lesson she believed was beneath her. Even with her lack of training, she would be able to infer that, but a stern look from her sister made her pay close attention to it. She's fully geared up in dark blue lightly plated armor, except for the helmet she carries in her hand.

Ilyna places a hand on her sister's shoulder. "You listen to me or Jason," she urges, a hint of worry in her flat voice. "I know what you, Briggs and Tennhausen did on Rakhana, and I don't want that happening today."

Zaylus has distanced himself from the other turian after their spar, taking the advice with little regard, but no outward resentment. He's taken the avenger, somewhat reluctantly, and has spent the time following to become familiar with the firearm. He's donned his simple armor once again, and heads out into the cargo hold with eyes straight ahead.

Leah has spent the time since Jason informed her of their arrival limbering up in the cargo unit. After a number of painfully looking stretches, she gave her gear one last check and is currently joining Jason and Nathan in the hold, helmet under her arm. Her usual ponytail has been abandoned. Her blonde hair is pulled into a French braid to better tuck into her helmet without getting in the way of anything. Much like Jason,

she seems to have pushed back her nerves once duty called. She takes a position beside Nathan, giving a short glance his way before hiding her features behind her helmet.

Jattic is suited up and looks quite hazardous to be around. Sharp, angular spikes protrude from the pauldrons and gauntlets of his red and black batarian armor. He passes a pair of frag grenades Jason's way and extends his own hands in front of himself, testing his gauntlets. As he tightly clenches each fist, the deep red holographic light from his omni-tool surrounds his fists, forming an enforcement gauntlet that

dissipates soon enough when they unclench. He gives a satisfied nod and unholsters his Vindicator.

Jessica is still lugging around the Cobra when she enters the hold in her matte grey Enforcer hardsuit, as if she's afraid Jason may take it away if she releases her grip on it. She has loaded up on grenades as well, numerous locked around her waist to her armor.

The to-some familiar 'thwump' of the ship exiting FTL is soon heard, and with it the potentially nauseating feeling of a brief, and slight shift in gravity. It's not long before the captain's voice sounds over comms: "We're approachin' the fuelin' station now. No sign of the ship yet but-... hang on."

Elena furrows her eyebrows, looking up towards the bridge as she hears the captain's voice. She grabs the compacted drone, swinging it over her back with a grunt of effort in case she needs to move quickly.

Jason sways slightly as the gravity shifts but, due to the conditioning in him afforded by his time onboard Alliance vessels, the change barely even seems to register with him. "Copy. Keep us updated." he says.

Jessica winces, staggering back and forth before getting her bearings. Outside of her time with Redrock, she has practically no experience with space travel and the queasiness catches her off guard, making itself apparent on her face. Thankfully it's hidden behind the visor of her helmet.

Nathan looks at Leah as she passes him a short glance. He inhales sharply as they drop out of FTL and he pulls on his helmet, the HUD coming to life before his eyes. He looks around, prepping himself for whatever is to come.

Ehanis instinctively grabs Ilyna's shoulders when the ship exits FTL, which is not something either of them are used to stand up during, but they manage to keep their balance. "You don't need to convince me," she says. "That fucking mistake almost-...." She is interrupted by the captain's announcement.

Ilyna does not give an answer, instead focusing on the announcement. A frown crosses her lips when the ship isn't there, as that could mean they've already refueled and moved on.

Leah steps in place a bit, then hops up in place on the balls of her feet as she preps for whatever is to come. Eyes forward, her hand searches for Nathan's, clanking her gauntlet against his before stepping forward to join Jason.

Lucy (comms): "Ship ain't here, but it sure as hell was... tail still is. Gonna venture a guess refulin' didn't go as planned. Got a good bit of debris. Station's ventin' atmo and there's a distress signal from inside."

Jason bites down. Venting atmosphere might mean it's only a matter of time before there's nothing left to fight on that ship. Unfortunately, that same logic applies to Li. He finds himself giving a glance Ilyna's way, his helmet obscuring the reassuring look he's attempting. "Let's hear it." he says.

((Retcon*))

Jason lowers his gaze as he listens. That could mean any number of things. With that sort of damage to the ship.... He finds himself giving a glance Ilyna's way, his helmet obscuring the reassuring look he's attempting. "Let's hear the distress signal." he says, attention still on the asari, "...Maybe they got off the ship. But if not? You're going to need to get a lock on where it went."

Lucy (comms): "Doin' our best. Playin' distress call now."

Ilyna is anything but reassured. She lets go of Ehanis' shoulder and heads towards Jason with purposeful steps. "I need a suit," she says, urgency clear in her voice.

Distress Call (comms): "This is HMEC fuel station D2 orbiting Zhurong requesting aid. We've been attacked. We have multiple dead and we're venting atmosphere. Gravity generation is offline. Please assist. Repeat, this is HMEC fuel station..."

Nathan allows a small smile beneath his helmet, returning Leah's small gesture in kind. But as the distress signal plays, he looks to Jason. "There's survivors. We need to get them off that station."

Oxaris hums softly, glancing across to Nathan. "That's not our mission. Besides, it could be a diversion."

Jattic nods to himself as Oxaris speaks. "It is unfortunate, but it is not our problem. Surely they have systems in place for evacuation if something goes wrong."

Jason sighs beneath his helm, giving Ilyna a nod, though his line of thought is cut short by the distress call. "Shit..." he mutters aloud, giving a glance back to Nathan, which is soon pulled towards Oxaris and Jattic. "It doesn't matter. We're not just going to chance it and let a bunch of people die." he snaps. With another deep sigh, he looks forward, speaking into his comms. "Work on getting a lock on that ship. They

couldn't have gotten far with that kind of damage. In the meantime, we'll board the station and try and get these people off. I'm gonna need an EVA suit for Ilyna."

Lucy (comms): "Thinkin' the same thing. Gonna have to bring us in close. Don't seem like there's an intact airlock. We got some EVA suits stocked up here by the airlock. You folks got space trainin'?"

Ilyna nods to Jason, but she doesn't say anything before making her way out of the room. She doesn't want to delay this mission, not even a second, so she's headed for the airlock.

Ehanis stays where she is, awaiting any orders of where to move. She does not have space training, but her armor has mag boots and she knows enough telekinetic biotics to change her course. "How hard can it be?" she says with a shrug in response to Lucy's question.

Oxaris looks at Ehanis, shaking her head softly. "Very hard with no training. And judging by that question, I'm going to assume you have none."

Zaylus grimaces at the idea of zero-g action, but keeps his concerns, and his inexperience, to himself.

Elena mutters something about space, but most of it is Spanish too quiet to be translated.

Leah glances about as everyone voices their opinion, remaining silent until Jason has finished speaking. "...What if they're infected?" she asks plainly.

Jessica gives a number of nods as she hears Lucy. "Mmm. Space training." she says, "I have this."

Jason doesn't respond to Leah, choosing instead to focus on Lucy. "That's a good question." he asks, casting a glance back towards the others as if expecting a response. As he over hears Ehanis and Jessica, he gives a sigh. "That's two no's." he muses aloud.

Leah sucks in a deep breath as her question goes unanswered. "What if they're infected?!" she asks again, a bit more forcefully this time as she reaches for Jason's arm. "We have no idea what happened here, Jason. No idea how much contact they've had."

Jason glances down at the hand on his arm before slowly raising his gaze to Leah's helmet. "If they're infected, then we will deal with them." he says pointedly, a short pause to let that sink in before he continues. "...But if they're not we can't just leave a bunch of people to die.

Leah shrinks in place a bit, embarassment washing over her. "....I-... Yeah." she nods, her tone softening somewhat, "You're right... I-.... I'm sorry."

Nathan glances at Leah, the visor allowing her to see the very brief frown that appears before he shakes his head at Jason. "I don't have training...".

Elena locks her helmet into place, hiding her face as she ends up shooting Jason a long look from beneath her visor.

Ehanis scoffs, and looks down to her helmet. "I have my biotics, I'll figure it out," she says with a glance towards the turian before putting the helmet on.

Oxaris steps forwards, nodding sharply to Jason whilst sending a withering glance at Ehanis. "I do." She motions to the thrusters on her armour.

Ilyna would find that the space suit is easy to put on, and the harness features integrated navigational thrusters. Too weak to do anything in gravity, but in zero-g, a valuable tool. The helmet has a bubble-style visor for maximum visibility.

Jason holds Leah's gaze for a few more moments before looking back over his team. "Those of you without training-..." he brow beats Ehanis from behind his helmet, "...Sit this one out. I plan on being back by the time the captain has a lock on the ship, anyway. In and out. We need to be ready to move as soon as we know where we're going and I can't have people flailing around ass-over-end out there."

There's a series of thumps and crashes that slightly rock the ship.

Lucy (Comms): "Nothin' to worry about. Just gotta get through some of the debris. Whatever happened got the station good. Puttin' ya where the airlock used to be. Gonna be openin' the cargo hatch once everyone's ready. We've got an atmospheric containment field runnin' so don't go worryin' about gettin' sucked out."

Ilyna sets the vest down on the floor and wastes no time getting into the suit. She has training in zero gravity, and can create very strong telekinetic fields. "What happened?" she asks over team comms after the thumps and crashes, but the captain's answer is more than enough to calm her nerves — relatively speaking.

Ehanis folds her arms after sealing her helmet. "What if they're here?" she asks. "Are we just going to sit-..." She's interrupted by the the sudden thumps and looks out towards the cargo bay to see if there's any damages to their ship, only looking back at Jason when the captain explains it.

Jessica seems to be in the same boat as Ehanis. Irrational and frustrated. But as she goes to open her mouth, the ship rocking causes her to stumble. Thankfully Nathan is nearby, who she uses to keep herself from falling over by clonking into him.

Jason continues with a glance about the others, settling on Ehanis. "If they're here or we need backup for any reason? We'll let you know. And then you can have your chance to 'figure it out'." he says, his own balance betraying a man his size. Life on a ship tends to have that sort of effect. "In and out." he repeats as he turns towards the hatch.

Leah likewise, doesn't seem particularly rattled by the thumping. "Copy." she says to Jason. She gives another glance Nathan's way, a but of guilt seeping in as she finds herself pleased that he's being benched.

Jattic grunts loudly, folding his arms across his chest. "Be careful out there, Wolfe." he growls. "Radio back at the first sign of trouble and we will come." he assures, despite not having much of a clue how they'll manage to pull that off without any space training. As Ehanis said. They'll 'figure it out'.

((a bit of guilt*))

Nathan manages to barely keep his balance, even as Jessica bounces into him. He instinctively goes to steady her by grabbing onto her shoulder, making sure she won't topple further. He looks at the away team, concern creeping into his eyes and a modicum of frustration at being unable to help. He sighs, nodding at them. "Yeah. We'll be there."

Zaylus takes a step back, touching a hand to his fringe. It's clear he doesn't intend to join the away team, though he's not keen on saying it out loud.

Oxaris walks towards the hatch with the others, remaining silent as she passes by Zaylus. She breathes deeply, steadying whatever nerves are there before stomping them out completely. She's done this dozens of times.

Lucy (Comms): "We're... pickin' up another signal. Ain't audio. Can't make heads or tails of it. Gonna try and pinpoint it while ya help those folks. We're in position."

Jessica shrugs away from Nathan's grasp despite him being the only reason she's still upright. Pride is more important than appreciation. She clutches at the Cobra in her hands, silently worried that they might take it from her since she's not going with.

Jason lifts his left arm as the holographic interface of his omni-tool surrounds his forearm. He pokes at it, ensuring his suit is sealed before giving a nod to himself. "Copy. We're good to go. Open the hatch."

Ilyna drops down to the cargo hold's top walkway, using her biotics to slow the fall, before hurrying down to stand outside of the door to the cargo module. She is fully suited up, Avenger in hand while the Predator is attached to her hip. It's not a class of weapons she has training in, but it's too cumbersome to have on her hip.

There's a flicker as a blue mass effect field materializes just inside the hatch. A moment later it opens with a clang and a drawn out groan from the hydralics. A few small pieces of debris are swatted aside by the descending ramp, while a few others float through the mass effect field, falling to the floor with a clatter as they enter the gravity field. The sight that the ramp opens to is quite dramatic. The fuel station is

right in front of them, the hull ripped open with the remaining half of a short corridor right ahead. A field similar to the one keeping their ship from decompressing sits in a bulkhead in the corridor. The crewed portion of the station is quite small, but attached to it is a massive set of fuel tanks, barely visible off to the right. Most prominent of all however is the bold orange of the gas giant it orbits. Its surface takes

up the entire view behind the station due to the low orbit and the size of the planet. The strange view is a vertigo-inducing one, giving the impression that the Jack's cargo hold is about to empty them all into a deadly freefall. Storms rage among the clouds below, but up here there is no sound but the clanking of floating debris. The exposed corridor is fortunately not more than a few meters away thanks to Lucy's piloting.

An easy enough jump in zero-g if you know what you're doing.

Ehanis sighs. "Fine," she says as she walks over to the nearest crate to sit down. She looks on with awe at the sight through the open hatch, which she can see some of from her position inside the module.

Elena instinctively grabs onto the nearest crate with a tight grip. "I fucking hate space..." she mutters.

Ilyna moves over to the railing once the hatch starts opening, her worry only growing at the state of the station. "Goddess," she mutters. When it's completely open, she makes her way downstairs and towards it at a brisk pace.

Jason finds himself hesitating as he takes in the awe inspiring sight. He takes in a deep breath, snapping himself into the moment as he takes a step forward. "In and out." he repeats once again over comms before taking the lead, sending another glance Ilyna's way. "Let's do this." he says, as much to hype himself up as to rally the others. He charts his course visually, ensuring no debris is floating by before taking a few

heavy steps and leaping through the mass effect field. He allows the weightlessness to take over once through the field and carry him towards his destination.

Leah lines up near the hatch once it opens. "Shit..." she mutters under her breath at all of the destruction. She looks back over her shoulder, giving Nathan one more small nod before a blue glow envelopes her and she steps through the field. Her travel is much less momentum-based than Jason's. She's in total control of her movements, gliding gracefully towards the station's mass effect field.

Jessica's eyes flutter behind her helmet as the sight comes into view. The Cobra that she was clutching on to so tightly moments earlier clatters to the floor. She stands in place, completely stunned by what's in front of her for a number of moments before doing the first thing that comes to mind. Snapping a picture of it. She clumsily navigates through her omni-tool interface for a moment before the telltale click sounds out

a number of times.

Jattic has seen worse.

Oxaris watches the others move through first, waiting patiently for her time. As they pass, she moves out, pushing through the field and towards their destination. The jets on her armour open and make small, almost minuscule adjustments to keep her on course.

Nathan watches the group move through, arms folded across his chest. Apprehension sits heavily in his stomach and he returns the nod to Leah. He watches for a few more moments before stepping back and away to wait. He really hates waiting...

Upon passing through the station's mass effect field the away team would find themselves in a short corridor. The jagged, broken down remains of the rest of it are all outside the field. There is no gravity, but atmosphere is intact, albeit thinning. The corridor leads to a 4-way intersection just a few meters away. Straight ahead is a door the interface of which reads 'Control Center'. The corridors on each side are not

visible until they move into the intersection.

Ilyna is not far behind Jason as she jumps through the field without hesitation. She has no time to get acquinted with the suit's thrusters, instead using her biotics to control movement in space. "I hope we're not too late," she says over comms, mostly to have any sound other than just her breathing. "If Li is here...." Her field strengthened as she slows down almost completely, but the anticipated change in

gravity didn't happen and it fades in strength as she enters.

Jason uses his hand to grasp at the top of the ripped-apart hallway and guide himself inward. Pressing against the ceiling, he locks himself to the floor with his mag boots the moment they touch down. "Then we'll find her and bring her home." he's quick to finish Ilyna's sentence, unwilling to allow her mind to linger on the millions of ways things could have went wrong. He's doing enough of that for both of them. "No gravity.

But the power is still on." he observes aloud as he unfolds the Revenant from his back. He cycles comms channels to put out a general message in hope that the station's inhabitants might hear it. "HMEC fuel station D2. This is Jason Wolfe of Redrock Agency. We've boarded the station at the airlock and are prepped to evacuate te crew."

Leah slows her movements as she passes through the station's mass effect field and locks her boots to the floor as well before allowing the biotic glow to dissipate. "This place is a mess..." she mutters as she pulls her Mattock from her back, head already on a swivel.

There is no response to the message. Ilyna's EVA suit has magboots.

Oxaris drops onto the floor, her boots magnetizing to the floor with a thunk. She unfolds her SMG and presses the stock to her shoulder, fingers curling around the grip on the front. "Agreed. Likely has tight corridors. Won't be much room to move inside."

Ilyna doesn't respond to Jason. She taps on her omni-tool, leaving her Avenger to float beside her for a moment. After a few seconds, her feet lock onto the floor and she takes a step to take her weapon that was slowly floating away. "Li, if you're on this station..., say something," she asks in a general message. She waits for Jason to take the lead.

Jason sighs as his hail goes unanswered. A sharp pain shoots through his chest as Ilyna puts out her own message. Going home without Li isn't an option. They'll find her. They have to. "No answer. Could be having problems with their comms." he says as he starts down the hall towards the door marked 'Control Center'. Surely if the station is falling apart, this is where the inhabitants would be, attempting to hold things

together as best as they can.

Leah follows behind Jason, keeping her own musings to herself. Sure. Could be their comms. Could also be that they're all mindless killing machines by this point. But Jason was right. They have to try. As they approach the intersection, she sweeps her Mattock down the left corridor.

The left corridor leads to a door marked 'Crew Quarters'. And more importantly, floating in front of it is a security mech, torn apart at the midsection. Still powered, it struggles to turn its yellow-glowing optics to face her, along with the boxy gray carbine in its hand. "I-I-I-Identify." it sounds before bumping onto one of the walls with a bonk.

(*into)

Oxaris takes third in the line, sweeping her weapon right as they reach the intersection. She's quiet, focused, only aiming to speak whenever the situation was required. Her finger hovers next to the trigger, ready to fire. She glances over her shoulder at the unrecognised voice.

The right corridor leads to a door marked 'Engineering'. The left side of the door is stuck open, and the right is opening and closing irregularly. The unfortunate sight of slowly floating globules of red blood greet Oxaris as well.

Ilyna follows after the turian, content in that position given how they're much better equipped for dealing with whatever awaits them than she is. She lifts her weapon at seeing the mech, but lowers it quickly as she's likely to do more harm than good firing it in such a narrow space. Ilyna casts a glances behind them as they reach the intersection, making sure there's nothing following them.

Elena steps keeps her grip on the crate as she watches out the cargo hold, not seeming quite comfortable with the idea of letting go even if she knows it'd be safe. She watches as a particularly large piece of debris floats by, her expression hidden beneath her visor.

Leah locks her sights on the security mech as soon as it comes into view. Her finger hovers over the trigger of her Mattock as she assesses the situation, but she's quick to lower her weapon. "Security is still online." she notes to the others as a blue shine envelopes her, deciding better than to begin opening fire until they know where the rest of the crew is. She brings her left hand against the side of her right- which

is still clutching her Mattock- and jerks them apart, aiming to tear the weapon free from the mech.

Jason snaps his attention towards the mech, his instinct to lower into a firing stance. But he loosens up as he realizes what it is. "Eyes open. Guessing that one was torn apart whenever-.... whatever happened to the airlock went down. But there could be more."

Senya seems far less discomforted by the unusual view, but she's not equipped for EVA, and such remains in the hold, waiting to recieve injured should need be. She glances over at Zaylus and the others, but offers no comment as of now, her gaze soon scanning across the station and the damage wrought on it.

Jessica seems almost choked up, simply continuing to stare. "I-.... It is-..." she pauses, glancing to Nathan seemingly for answers. "There is no way that anyone survived this, yes...?" she asks.

Oxaris focuses down her corridor and says over comms to the team, "Got a door to Engineering here. Blood too." She slowly moves down the corridor towards the door, keeping gun raised and etes forward. "Moving to the door, will hold there."

The mech is easily disarmed. The biotic field causes it to tumble slowly towards Leah however. It is a gray, humanoid mech, similar to a LOKI but a bulkier and more rounded design, almost giving the impression of a person in a suit of armor. Almost. Printed on its chest is the flag of the CPF, and beneath it: 'Heavy Metal ExoMining of China. SunTech Model 800.' "H-Hostile action." it declares as it continues to float haplessly,

its optics changing to red. It can of course do nothing, however. "Offensive systems not operational. Repairs needed."

Nathan paces, not focusing on the carnage wreathed across the facility. He inhales sharply at Jessica's question, looking to her and thinking for a moment. "There's always the possibility that someone did. And if there are survivors, we're going to get them out of there."

Ehanis moves to sit on a crate very close to the field keeping their air in, ready to spring into action at the first hint of them needing reinforcement. She doesn't seem very bothered by it, as she keeps watching through the field for any movement. She still has her helmet on, but it's not sealed.

There's mostly darkness beyond the door, most of the lights seemingly having been knocked offline, but as Oxaris' flashlight shines in she'd see... machinery. And more machinery. Some of it quite large, blocking the view deeper into the room. There is however a thump and what sounds like a breath from somewhere inside.

Leah is quick to redirect the mech towards the ground effortlessly, her control over her biotics second nature. "Crew quarters on my side." she says.

Jason sighs, glancing back at Oxaris. "Alright. Ilyna. You and I will check the control center. Leah?" he continues with a nod towards Oxaris, "We'll cover more ground if we split up. Keep in radio contact and wait for backup at the first sign of trouble." he says before continuing towards the door opposite of where they entered.

Leah gives a nod. "Copy." she says, doing an about face- weapon lowered- as she falls in line behind Oxaris.

Lucy (Comms): "Think we've got a lock on that other signal... still no clue what it's sayin' or who it's from. How's thing's lookin' over there?"

Ilyna keeps her attention on the mech, even after it declares its inability to fight. Upon Jason's order, she folds up and attaches the bulky weapon to her hip, opting to use the pistol instead as the corridors are far too narrow for her to use a weapon she has little to no training in. She waits for Leah to join Oxaris before moving over to Jason's position. The asari is having a hard time focusing on the

mission, as the only thing on her mind is Li, and she finds herself awaiting orders rather than taking the lead like the turian did.

Oxaris holds a hand up, indicating that Leah she stop. "I hear something. Sounds like... breath." She lowers her hand back to her SMG, clutching it tightly as she moves to the open side of the door. "Ready to move in, Mercier?"

Jason continues forward towards the door. "Like a bomb went off in here." he says in response to Lucy. "We'll try and make this quick." He reaches out with one hand, the other steadying his Revenant, and holds it over the door's interface. He looks Ilyna's way to give her a heads up and time to get into position.

Leah stalks down the hallway after Oxaris. As she reaches the door, she stacks up on the left side of it when Oxaris moves into position. "Ready." is her only response, weapon aimed downward as she waits for the turian to take the lead.

Oxaris nods sharply and swings inside the room, watching her footing as she sweeps the gun around, looking for any sign of life. She makes room for Leah to move in next to her, the flashlight cutting a path through the gloom.

The Control Room door opens to a hexagonal room filled with control panels, as well as a window that looks out across the horizon of the gas giant. The body of a middle-aged man in an HMEC uniform is floating in one corner of the room, crumpled up. A streak of floating blood follows in what is presumably his wake. All the controls have power, but some appear damaged.

Leah activates her headlamp and sweeps in just behind Oxaris, only raising her weapon once her ally has cleared her zone of fire. Years of Alliance training engrained in her keeps all those nagging thoughts about what may be around the next corner from getting in the way of the mission.

Ilyna gets into position by the door, and waits for it to open. When it does, she leans out to look around it, her eyes stopping on the man as she looks to see if he's alive. A sigh escapes her when it's clear he doesn't, and she leans back out to wait for Jason to move inside.

As Oxaris enters Engineering a young woman in an HMEC uniform pops out from behind a piece of machinery. She has a tight grip on a handgun, and a single shot pings off of the wall several meters away from Oxaris, pushing the weightless human back slightly. She has a terrified expression on her face, and is quick to toss the weapon aside as it overheats, holding up both her rather shaky hands, palms facing the two mercenaries.

Oxaris 's head barely flinches as the shot slams into the wall near her. She swings the weapon around and aims it at the woman, the flashlight likely blinding the survivor. "We got a civilian here! She's jumpy." She adopts a braced stance, keeping the gun focused on her.

Jason raises his Revenant and sweeps inside, instinctually checking his corners before sweeping about the room. The dead civilian barely even registers as his Alliance training takes over. Threat assessment first. "Clear." he announces before his Revenant lowers and his posture straightens. "We've got a body, but no survivors." he says as he steps further into the room, looking the man over for any sign of how he may have

died. "See if your civvy can shed any light on just what in the hell happened here."

Leah snaps her rifle to the woman, finger hovering over the trigger. She gives a flinch of her own as the pistol round pings off the wall. "Drop the weapon!" she orders, the metallic tinge of her helmet making her otherwise non-threatening voice sound a bit more menacing than usual. As the weapon is tossed aside, she keeps her own leveled on the woman.

Technician keeps her gaze on the floor as the glaring beam of the flashlight shines in her face. She's floating slowly backwards due to the recoil. "P-Please! You don't have to do this!" she begs.

Ilyna enters after Jason gives the all clear, looking around the room in case he missed anything. "Does she have a suit?" she asks over the comms.

Oxaris looks to Mercier for a moment before she lowers the weapon, turning back to the Technician. "Identify yourself," she says, her voice barking that authoritative tone more belonging on the drill square. She leaves Leah to respond to the rest of the team.

The man appears to have taken several gunshots to the back.

Jason continues over towards the corner, brows furrowed as he spots the cause of death. "This one was shot to death. There was definitely a fight here..." he says, putting to rest any hope that there was some sort of crash or docking issue that caused the damage.

Leah doesn't lower her weapon, though her finger moves away from the trigger. "Just a company uniform." she responds to Ilyna.

Technician flinches as Oxaris speaks. "My name is Xiu. I-I'm just a technician! Please!"

A charred corpse floats by amid the debris outside the cargo hold. It's roughly the shape and size of an adult human.

Nathan switches to internal comms for a moment. "Keep me covered, Mercier. I'm going to secure her, make sure she isn't carrying any other weapons, then bring her back to here. Then we can ask her some questions face to face."

((retcon))

Oxaris switches to internal comms for a moment. "Keep me covered, Mercier. I'm going to secure her, make sure she isn't carrying any other weapons, then bring her back to here. Then we can ask her some questions face to face."

Leah gives a single nod. "Copy." she repeats, lowering her weapon so Oxaris can pass but remaining ready. It's unlikely this terrified woman is a threat, but judging a book by its cover is a quick way to get yourself into trouble, as many of Leah's own opponents have come to find out.

Jessica furrows her brow as the body floats by. "That one does not look very much alive." she muses aloud, though her gaze remains fixed on the burned corpse. It wasn't the first one she's seen. Not by a long shot. She wills herself to look away, focusing on collecting her Cobra from the ground rather than letting her mind drift down that avenue.

Oxaris switches back to external comms. "Stay right there. I'm coming over to you now, understood?" She disengages the mag boots and gently lets herself drift up before her jets fire off small bursts to grant her light propulsion towards the woman, compensating where needed.

Technician brings up her arms to shield her face, cowering as Oxaris floats toward her. "P-Please..." she repeats. "It wasn't me!"

Ilyna sighs. "It must be the people we're after," she says after getting Jason's message, not over comms. "What other motivation could there be to destroy a station like this?" She leaves the control room, and looks down the corridor. "There are more suits where I found mine," she says over comms. "Is there anyone back there that could bring it here?"

Jason gives a few silent nods as he continues to study the man in the corner. This station is just a small reminder of what sort of destruction this woman is capable of. "We need to stop her." he says with a glance Ilyna's way. With a sigh, he turns back the way they came. "Come on. We've still got the crew quarters to check.

Leah keeps her distance, remaining fixed to her position as Oxaris approaches the scared woman. "Calm down. We're here to evacuate you and the rest of the crew." she says, "But you need to tell us what happened."

Oxaris floats over to the woman, frowning underneath her helmet. She changes the comms so that the woman will broadcast to the rest of the team for them to hear what she has to say. Leah perfectly says what she was about to say and instead makes a slow movement to clasp her holster her SMG. "I'm going to grab onto you so I can take us both back to my companion. Okay?"

((of the sort of destruction*))

Nathan doesn't respond to Jessica, instead swallowing the knot in his throat and starts to lightly pace to occupy himself.

Technician blinks, her fear giving way to confusion. "W-What? Y-... oh no. I-I'm so sorry, I-... the-... it's just me." she manages with a shake of her head. She refocuses on the rather intimdating visage of Oxaris as the turian floats up to her. "W-W-... y-... okay. Okay." she says with several quick nods.

Nathan chimes into comms after a moderate amount of pacing, responding to Ilyna. "How many do you need? Just the one?" He starts to walk towards where the suits were stored.

Ilyna nods to Jason and starts moving towards the intersection. "As many as you can bring," she says over comms. "We might find more survivors, and we don't know how long the station's air pressure will be safe." She steps aside and waits for Jason to take the lead down the corridor.

Oxaris drifts slowly around the technician, small and careful movements. When she is directly behind her, she moves to hold her in her arms. Once she is secured, the thrusters start to push the pair back towards Leah.

Leah gives a deep sigh. "You catch that, Jason? Sounds like she's the only survivor." she says. Despite the information, the technician's cooperation causes her to visibly loosen up.

Jason pauses his movement as he overhears the technician and Leah's subsequent comment. One survivor. Still, he nods in agreement with Ilyna's comment to Nathan. "Get her ready for transport." he relays to Leah and Oxaris as he continues down the corridor. "Me and Ilyna will check the crew quarters just to be sure." As he nears the intersection, he once again shoulders his Revenant, taking the corner with his weapon raised

before stalking down the corridor towards the crew quarters.

The crew quarters door is locked, with text scrolling across the interface: "WARNING: Depressurization detected beyond this point."

Nathan reaches the suits after navigating his way there. He rolls up three suits, bundling them up in his arms as he makes his way back to the cargo-hold. He arrives, sucking in a deep breath as he looks at the small gap between the ship and the station. "O-okay. I'll be arriving shortly." He looks to the others, swallowing and sighing heavily.

Ehanis stands up as Nathan returns with the suits. "I can do it," she offers as she notices his hesitation, not admitting that she's just as unconfident about it as he appears to be. "I can use my biotics if I miss."

Technician remains silent as she's ferried by Oxaris.

Jattic steps over towards the cargo hold hatch. He looks from Nathan to the small gap he needs to cross in order to reach the station. "Don't get overconfident about the size of the gap. We are probably moving at incredibly high speed right now." He reaches out, pressing a gauntleted hand against Nathan's back. "Do not die, human." he offers. The wisest of advice. Though when Ehanis steps up, his gaze snaps to her.

Oxaris eventually touches down next to Leah, releasing her hold on the Technician to redraw her SMG and then place a hand on the woman's shoulder to keep her in place. "Civilian secured, awaiting the suit. We'll exfil her after."

Nathan gulps and shakes his head at Ehanis, listening to the... wise batarian at his back. "It's fine, Ehanis... I got this. Phew, I got this. Just a small gap... smaaaaaalll gap. A gap where we are moving at... very... very high speeds. Yeah." He moves towards the jump after Jattic's hand is pressed to his back. He reaches the edge and announces over comms, "This is Tennhausen... coming over with the suits." He

sucks in a deep breath and adjusts himself so that when he pushes off, he should only have one direction to go. Towards the landing spot. And so... he steps out, drifting towards the corridor as his heart thunders in his chest.

A small piece of debris bumps into Nathan as he travels, but it's not enough to knock him off-course, and he soon arrives.

Ilyna follows him down the hallway, but stops when she notices the sign on the door. "She might be telling the truth," she says, not over comms; her flat tone of voice is back now that the hope of finding more survivors is drained out of her.

Jason falls silent, simply staring at the text for a moment. "Fuck..." he mutters aloud, lowering his head briefly. It may as well say 'Abandon all hope, ye who enter'. Or, 'All dead beyond this point'. "One survivor..." he says, lowering his weapon as he turns to look to Ilyna. "One fucking survivor." Thankfully, Nathan's announcement keeps him from dwelling on it for too long, causing him to turn around and hurry back

towards the 'airlock' to assist the new arrival.

Leah extends a hand to the technician's other shoulder, helping to keep her anchored to the ground. "Who attacked you?" she asks, seemingly unwilling to wait until they're back on their ship before bombarding her with questions. She looks the woman over for anything out of place. Wounds. Anything.

Ehanis sticks an arm through the hatch's field, a blue shimmer forming around her hand. She's ready to send a small bump Nathan's way in case his course is wrong, but the 'noise' of the field between her and her hand would likely make such a throw miss.

Jattic visibly winces as Nathan is bumped by debris. He folds his arms across his chest and gives a roll of his shoulders as Nathan safely reaches his destination.

Nathan blurts out, "Something hit me!" As the debris bounces off of him. However, he soon finds himself at the corridor, his feet kicking for a moment before the mag-boots activate and seal him to the ground. He huffs a breath of relief. "Tennhausen has arrived, folks," he says, clunking his way to the intersection. "I got three suits here, all I could carry."

Technician doesn't answer the question right away, quite obviously rattled. "They-... I don't know. A civilian freighter docked to fuel up and-... and I don't know. Suddenly there was fighting, this man was stomping through the place, gunning people down."

Oxaris hums, turning her head to the side slightly. "You hear that, Wolfe? Sounds like the Captain's husband went on a rampage." She then looks to the woman and asks, "Where there others? Any people who looked altered in anyway?"

Technician seems confused by Oxaris' question. "I-... what? I-I don't know, I just saw him..."

Technician appears to have nothing worse than a few bruises, and a small cut on her forehead.

Jason rounds the corner to greet Nathan, moving with purpose now that it's clear there's only the one survivor. "Looks like you brought two too many." he grunts, clearly frustrated by the situation. He gives a sigh to accompany his: "...Yeah." in response to Oxaris, well aware that the captain is listening in. He wordlessly gestures for Nathan to follow and guides him down the corridor to the door outside of Oxaris' and Leah's

location.

Ilyna follows after Jason until she reaches the intersection, where she instead takes a step down the corridor with the control room. Her weapon is raised half-way, but her mind is far too unfocused to really be ready in case something emerges from it.

Nathan nods to Jason, clunking along after the pair of them as he grimaces. "...Isn't there other places we could check? She just might not know about other survivors?" He asks, a shred of hope lingering in his voice. But he isn't going to hold his breath over that likelihood.

Jason shakes his head, remaining outside of the room, Revenant lowered as his gaze moves back to the crew quarters. "The crew quarters were depressurized. I don't know if you've ever seen something like that, Ten, but-..." he trails off, simply shaking his head. "There's no way they had time to prepare for that... All we can do now is get this one back to the Jack and catch up to that psychopath." He pauses before looking

right at Nathan. "And we're going to make damn sure that she can't hurt anyone else."

Oxaris looks to the door and nods to Leah, making to pull the technician out to the others as her boots clunk with each step. "Here she is," she says, flicking her head to the woman.

Technician goes along with Oxaris' movement, not that she has much choice in the matter. She's a human woman somewhere in her 20s, her black hair tied back in a ponytail that floats freely behind her, and a still-fearful look on her face.

Leah follows suit, one hand gripping her Mattock- barrel lowered to the ground- as her other guides the technician. Once they're out of the room, her attention snaps to Nathan. Not that he can know it, but there's a frustrated look hidden behind her helmet. Mission barely began and he's already putting himself at unnecessary risk.

Nathan stops as Jason stares right at him and he nods glumly, accepting the situation for what it is. "...Right. I understand." He holds out one suit to Jason for him to pass to the woman, steeling himself for what is to come. This missions is already off to a grim start and it has barely gotten anywhere. But in the end, he knows what he'll have to do and what he is prepared to do. He looks to Leah as her gaze

focuses on him and he greets her with a subtle nod of his head, oblivious to her look. He then looks to the woman.

Ilyna turns around and heads back to take a look at the civilian, her gaze moving to Nathan once she's seen her. "Can you take a look at the control room, Tennhausen?" she asks, assuming (wrongly, most likely) that there's an overlap between his skills and tech. "Maybe there's something in there that could show us if there are more parts of the station that still has pressure."

Jason accepts the suit and is quick to hand it off to the woman. "Put this on. We've got a ship waiting just outside of what's left of the airlock. Once we're all safely onboard, I need you to tell me exactly what happened here."

Leah glances Jason's way. "Xiu." she says. "She said her name is Xiu."

Jason gives a single, appreciative nod Leah's way. "Xiu." he repeats. "We've got a lot of questions that you might be able to answer. Think you can do that for us, Xiu?"

Technician nods several times, starting to put on the suit right away. "Yeah. Yeah." she's quick to say. "Just... get me the hell out of here." she adds, her voice breaking slightly.

Nathan blinks and opens his mouth to protest... then closes it. "I'll... see if there is anything I can do." He holds out the other suits to Ilyna and, assuming she takes them, he would trudge to the Control Room. After all, he rigged his armour to a mech to give it power. Surely he can shift through some files on a terminal. How hard can it be?

None of the terminals appear to be locked down. One of them appears to be responsible for transmitting the distress call. Another, quite conveniently, has a map of the station. The entirety of the crew quarters, the largest section of the crewed portion of the station, appears to be depressurized. The map also notably features a storage room and an airlock that aren't even present on the station anymore, no doubt due to

whatever happened. 'Catastrophic damage' reads over this section in Mandarin, autotranslated by Nathan's armor.

Oxaris remains quiet as Xiu suits up. She shines her flashlight back into the engineering room, watching over it cautiously in case something lingers in the shadows.

Jason gives a short nod. "I don't have any interest in sticking around here any longer than we have to, Xiu." he assures, watching back towards the intersection. After a moment, he glances back towards the young woman, "Are you sure there's no chance any other crew members survived?"

Xiu nods several times as she finishes with the suit, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath before putting on the helmet. She seems familiar enough with such equipment. No doubt a requirement for her job.

Nathan reads over the instruments, humming and ahhing as he reads the information being streamed to him. "Okay, so... place is pretty fucked," he mutters to himself. He goes routing through for security feeds, seeing if he can download recent footage and piece any gaps that may be left in Xiu's story together.

Ehanis pulls her arms back through the field once Nathan is over safely, and returns to sit at her crate. She looks down at her arm, moving her fingers around to make sure it's fine.

Ilyna does take the suits, but she follows him into the room. She stops just inside the room, looking around for any potential threats while he works.

The security feed does not appear to be accessible on any of the functioning consoles.

Jason gives a nod, a disappointed sigh following as Xiu confirms. "Get her back to the Jack." he says with a glance between Leah and Oxaris. And with that, he steps off to meet up with Nathan and Ilyna.

Oxaris nods. "Yes sir," she says before tapping Xiu on the back and pointing her in the direction of the Jack. "Come on. We have doctors on board. Food, water. You'll be safe there."

Xiu doesn't say anything, but she's quick to check the suit's systems, taking a moment to familiarize herself before pulling herself along to the breach. For a brief moment she stops, looking at the ship, almost as if in disbelief. But it doesn't last long before she pushes off, activating the navigational thrusters to make her way over to the Jack. As soon as she's through the mass effect field she drops to the floor with a

thud, bracing herself as she lands on hands and knees.

Leah gives a nod of her own in response to Jason's order. Despite her apprehension over the woman, she does her best to force a smile as she looks her way. A pointless gesture that goes hidden by her helmet. Another nod follows Oxaris' comment. She remains at ease, cradling her rifle between her arms as she starts towards the Jack.

Jason comes to a stop at the control center door, simply watching Nathan. His gaze shifts to Ilyna, then back to Nathan. "Find anything...?" he asks.

Jattic is quick to help the technician up, looking her over much the same way as Leah did. As he spots the cut on her head, he nods towards it. "How did you get this?" he growls.

Jessica has moved to take a seat on a crate, Cobra across her lap. She looks towards the new arrival, but doesn't linger too long. The charred corpse perhaps bothered her a little more than she'd like to let on.

Xiu gets back on her feet with Jattic's help, reaching up to remove her helmet once she sees the rest of the people in the hold aren't wearing any. "I-I hit my head during the explosion." she's quick to say, seeming rather put off by the batarian. Or perhaps his growling.

Nathan huffs and shakes his head, trying to find anything that would be remotely useful to them. Logs, contact information for the station, anything. "Not really," he says to Jason, shaking his head. "This isn't really my domain. Sorry, but I don't think we'll get anything from this place." He sighs, shaking his head.

There doesn't seem to be much else to find that isn't just related to the day-to-day operations of the station itself. And a whole lot of warning alerts about things not being operational.

Oxaris follows after Leah and Xiu, casting a look into space and just taking a moment to... contemplate. She shakes it off and waits for the rest of the team before she even attempts to head back to the Jack.

Jattic studies the cut for a moment. "How do you feel?" he asks. "Are you well? Any sickness?" he continues to rattle off, as if a doctor.

Leah remains beside Oxaris as well, looking back towards the others across the small gap between them. "At least we saved one." she says aloud with a glance to the turian. "I-... It could have been worse." she decides with a nod.

Xiu blinks. "N-... no...?" she says, obviously confused. And perhaps a bit intimidated. Her gaze keeps darting around as she fails to pick an eye to focus on.

Oxaris nods faintly. "One soul amongst dozens. It was one step away from being worse," she says bluntly, looking down the corridor to the others.

Ehanis studies the new arrival from where she's sitting, but her attention returns to the station soon after.

Ilyna gives another frustrated sigh as Nathan finds nothing useful. "Does that mean...," she says over comms, looking down at the floor as hope continues to drain from her. "Is this the end of their trail?"

Senya heads towards Xiu and Jattic. "Do you need any medical assistance?"

Xiu shakes her head. "I don't-... I don't think so."

Nathan shakes his head. "No... nothing. It's useless now. Should we broadcast our own message? To warn of anything who tries to approach and dock in the furture?"

future))

Jason sucks in a deep breath. A part of him would like to comb through everything they can. Look to make damn sure that nobody else survived before taking off. But without Renala, it's unlikely they'd get very far. No, that's not even the full truth. The truth is that, at the back of his mind, he knows they need to get a move on. Because the people in this station just aren't as valuable to him as Li is. And that truth carries

some guilt with it. "Then let's get moving." he says in response to Nathan's first statement before looking to Ilyna, a sharp shake of his head following. "Captain said she had a lock on the other signal. It's them." he says, pausing for a moment to consider what it means if it's not them. He's quick to cut that line of thinking off, however. "It's them, Ilyna." he repeats as confidently as he can muster. As Nathan

chimes in again, he gives a brief nod. "Do what you can, Ten. But make it quick. We need to be out of here ten minutes ago." He gives one last glance about the room before turning on his heels and starting back down the corridor.

Nathan nods and starts to voice over his own message. "This message is set to repeat. To any ships approaching the station, you are advised to turn back. The station has suffered massive structural damage and power is fading. All survivors have been rescued." He nods and sets the message to broadcast over the distress signal, standing and turning to leave.

Leah just continues to watch as the others attend to Xiu. "She's lucky to be alive." she says. "Let's hope the rest of us have her luck."

Jattic releases his grip on Xiu as the doctor arrives, turning his attention to her instead. "Give her a full examination." he orders. "Spare nothing. If anything is out of the ordinary, she must be quarantined."

Oxaris grunts, looking at Leah for a moment. "Luck has nothing to do with it. It's either our time or it isn't. But our chances of survival increase if we work together. That's how it is."

Ilyna follows Jason back down the corridor. "I hope you're right," she says flatly. If they were smart, they would be in FTL right now, headed for some unknown destination that can't be guessed with the same confidence as this.

Senya gives a slightly frustrated sigh, glancing at Jattic, but there's a hint of sympathy in her exasperated expression. "Dr. Halisi has informed me of how to test for... what you encountered. We'll have some bloodwork done." she says, gesturing towards the stairs. "Come on, let me have a look at you in the infirmary."

Leah continues to watch as Jattic steps away from Xiu, well aware of what's going through his mind right now. Because she's thinking the same thing. "Yeah..." she says to Oxaris distantly, "Then let's hope it's not our time." she corrects, deciding better than to argue with a teammate.

Jason comes to a stop at the edge of the destroyed corridor. As he catches sight of the technician across the way, he folds up his Revenant and holsters it on his back. "Good work." he compliments his team, though his words ring a bit hollow. "Let's go. Every second we spend here is a second that they're using to get further away."

Leah snaps out of her staring as Jason approaches, giving a small shake of her head. She folds her Mattock up and holsters it onto her back as she turns to Nathan. "Come on." she offers flatly, extending a hand to him. "I'll give you a lift home."

Oxaris nods and she steps out into space, drifting across with her jets. She aims to land softly inside and make room for the others.

Xiu nods, shooting a quick glance back at Jattic as she follows Senya.

Nathan follows behind, looking at the wreckage and destruction. A pang of guilt settles in his stomach, thinking that if they had gotten here sooner... but there was no chance. They had their head start. He refocuses as he looks at Leah and her extended hand, staring at it dumbly as he realises that he's going back out into space... even if it is just a tiny gap. He swallows and nods, taking it firmly. "Thanks.

Knowing my luck, I'll get hit by debris again."

Ilyna disables the suit's magnetic boots and uses a biotic field to gently drift across the gap. She strengthens the field as she reaches the ship, managing to land on her feet rather than stumble when the gravity changes. She walks out of the way and turns around to watch the others.

Leah frowns beneath her helmet as Nathan mentions getting hit by debris. She takes a moment to guide his arms around her waist, laying one hand atop the other at her stomach. She steps forward as a blue glow envelopes her and deactivates her mag boots, causing her to lift ever so slightly. She turns her head as she tries to look over her shoulder to Nathan, though the angle fights her. "Now watch your hands! No funny stuff!"

she threatens in an attempt at concealing the discomfort that washes over her as her biotics flare up. "Just-.... Hold on tight."

Jason once again lines up his trajectory, placing one hand against the corridor wall as he leans forward. As his magnetic boots deactivate, he uses his hand on the wall to help propel him forwards towards the Jack.

((forward*))

Nathan allows her to guide his arms and he can feel the heat rise in his cheeks. He blinks and clears his throat, just as the blue glow washes over her. He lets out a small, nervous chuckle as they float, her words causing him to squeeze her tightly. "I got you," he mumbles in confirmation. "...Believe me, I have got you...".

The remaining Redrock team members should arrive back on the Jack without issue.

Ilyna turns away when she notices the others seem to be safely on their way across. She attaches the pistol to her hip and starts on her way towards the airlock to return the unused suits.

Jason's momentum carries him back into the cargo hold, a slight stumble in his step as he transfers from no-gravity to gravity. He glances back, waiting for the rest of his team to make it back inside before speaking up. "We're back safe and sound, Lucy." he announces over comms.

Leah glances about as nothing but space surrounds them during their brief trip across the gap. "Good. Because if you get sent spiraling off into space and die, then I'm going to kick your ass, Nate." she says, doing her best to mask her discomfort. As they pass through the mass effect field, Nathan's weight causes them to nearly immediately touch down. Leah, gracefully as ever, plants her boots with the balance of a dancer.

Oxaris touches down with ease, a practiced grace to her landing. She watches the othes come in, silent as she reflects on what this diversion actually achieved. One life saved. One.

Lucy (Comms): "Copy that. Closin' up. Pivin don't think the ship could've gotten far, considerin' the damage. I'm thinkin' we check out that signal. Not sure why they'd be broadcastin' since they were runnin', but it's as good a lead as any."

The cargo ramp starts to close, the hydralics once again starting to whine as it works its way shut. Soon enough the breathtaking view of the gas giant and the destruction above it is gone, and the mass effect field deactivates.

Nathan takes a moment to gaze into the sprawl that is space, eyes wide as he seems to truly experience it. Not from the inside of a ship, but beyond the safety of a hull. "Wow..." he mutters aloud, something pulling at him to just let go and drift. That's very abruptly cut short at Leah and he pouts beneath his helmet. "Is it bad that I believe you'll do that?" He touches down with less poise, wobbling a little and

using her to keep himself upright. "Aha. There. All good."

Jason nods to himself. "Exactly what I was thinking. It's the best lead we've got right now." he responds. He takes a deep breath as he shuffles a few feet further into the cargo hold, bringing his hands to his hips as he glances about at the others. "Temporary setback, but this doesn't change anything. If that signal is coming from the ship, then I need everyone ready to board as soon as we reach it."

Leah's glow dissipates as they settle down. A small smile tugs at her lips as Nathan speaks, but it doesn't last long. As Jason begins to speak, her right gauntlet moves over Nathan's hands at her waist and she gives them a pat. "Hands." she says, her switch still set to 'Soldier' it appears despite the small bit of 'Civilian Leah' that shined through temporarily. "Move 'em or lose 'em."

There's a subtle shift in the artificial gravity as the ship turns and starts to move.

Nathan blinks. "Hands? Wha- hands!" He withdraws them immediately and takes a step back, clearing his throat and brushing himself down to just... give himself something to do as he listens to Jason, stepping besides Leah. He's beyond glad for his helmet right now, folding his arms across his chest.

Oxaris nods to Jason and pulls off her helmet, if only for a moment to take her canteen and sip at the water within. "Rules of engagement?" She asks, looking expectantly at her boss. "We heard the civilian. The enemy are blindly murdering whomever they come across."

Jason sucks in a deep breath, cheeks puffing up behind his helmet as he considers the turian's question before blowing the air out. "We don't know the status of things onboard." he says as he looks to Oxaris. "It's-..." he pauses, letting out a deep sigh as he begrudgingly admits: "It's unlikely we'll come across any non-combatants. But if we do? Standard rules apply. Don't fire unless fired upon. We still don't have the full

story on how she got control of that ship, so for all we know there could be hostages."

Jessica remains on her crate seat, Cobra across her lap. "Mmm. I am ready." she says softly, her mind still elsewhere from the sound of things.

Jattic folds his arms across his chest. "Any hostages are beyond saving." he chimes in. There's no anger or malice in his voice, simply a matter-of-fact observation.

Leah lowers her gaze as Jattic speaks up, silently happy he was the one to say it rather than her.

Jason looks to the ground as well, a few shallow nods following. "You might be right, Jattic." he says softly, "...And if that's the case? Then we do what we have to in order to deal with them."

Elena shifts in place, looking at Jason but saying nothing.

Ehanis looks up at the others, remaining seated on the crate. She's not needed anywhere else, and she wants to be ready for their arrival.

Ilyna heads back to her quarters after leaving the suits where she found hers. She's still wearing her suit, but she removes the helmet once she gets there.

Nathan 's attitude immediately drops as Jattic speaks and he looks to everyone. He grits his teeth and he shakes his head. "Bullshit," he growls, still unable to comprehend that there is the possibility that any people captured are beyond saving. He pulls off his helmet and walks away before his mouth gets him into trouble, brow furrowed and jaw set.

Oxaris hums and nods. "Understood..."

Leah looks after Nathan as he storms off. "Nate..." she says softly, her worry renewed by his disregard for just how dangerous they've told him this will be. She reaches up, working off her helmet causing her braid to fall free as she starts after him.

Jattic nudges Leah as she attempts to pass him. "Let him go." he says, looking towards Nathan. "Your words will only further anger him. He hasn't experienced what we have. He can't possibly understand." His gaze moves back to the woman beside him. "If this is as bad as we believe, however, he will understand soon enough."
