#MSVJackOfDiamonds – January 25, 2018
Halisi makes her return not long after the reset completes, cleary having kept track of how long she's expected it to take. She stops in the doorway to the armory, offering a soft smile. "Any trouble?" she asks, activating her omni-tool as she approaches.
Jason has more-or-less remained unmoved. Without the use of his arms, the time has served only to allow him to silently stew in the events of the past day. Gaze distant, he does his best to hide his concerns as Halisi arrives. He swallows as he looks to her, giving a small shake of his head. "No-... uhh-... No, I don't think so." he begins before furrowing his brow. "I mean-... I guess you're supposed to answer that for me,
Halisi offers are reassuring expression as she walks up and connects to his arms once more. "Let's have a look." she says. Her eyes scan the screen for a while before her gaze returns to Jason, a smile spreading across her face. "Happy to report there's no sign of the alien code."
Jason remains silent as Halisi goes over the readout, merely watching her for any indication that something's wrong. As she smiles, he gives a deep sigh, his eyes closing briefly and his rigid shoulders falling a bit more slack. "You're sure...?" he asks softly, the concern still obvious in his voice.
Halisi gestures with the hand projecting her omni-tool display. "It's all right here. You can look it over for yourself if you want." she says, an understanding look on her face. A faint smile lingers. "Readouts are all clean. Nothing to worry about." she says, showing off the screen. The display would of course be mostly gibberish to Jason, but it's part of her attempt to assure him that things are fine.
Jason furrows his brow as he looks over the display, understanding precisely none of what he's looking at it. The crease in his browline only deepens as he continues to stare at it before eventually giving a small shake of his head. "I'll take your word for it, doc... But I'm not willing to leave it at that. Tomorrow? I expect another check up. And as soon as everyone is rested up, do whatever-..." he shakes his head,
gesturing to the readout with a small nod, "...crap you did to me to Leah. From the sound of things when everything went down, she wasn't doing a whole lot better than I was. She's got some pretty extensive hardware jammed inside of her so I'm thinking-..." he tilts his head to the side as he trails off, assuming Halisi can connect the dots.
Halisi furrows her eyebrows. "I... see. I'll be sure to do that." she says with a nod. "We won't take any chances." she assures, "But everything is looking fine right now. So don't go worrying about it. I'll do another checkup when I can. There's... still a lot to do in the infirmary."
Jason's gaze lowers as he gives a few short nods, suddenly feeling slightly guilty for having dragged her away from the others so selfishly. "Yeah..." he agrees, drawing in a deep breath as he climbs out of the chair. He opens and closes each hand, examining them as he does until he's satisfied everything is in working order. It causes a distant look to set in as he stares at the cybernetic prosthetics for a number of moments
before finally lifting his attention back to the doctor. "...We need to figure out how to stop this, doc. I'm sure I don't need to remind you of our track record with these fuckers... We've crossed paths with them way too many times for me to be a liability to my own team. Do what you need to do... But figure it out."
Halisi nods a couple of times. "I'll start looking into it when we're back." she says. She starts to turn, clearly in a hurry to get back to work, but she turns back as she recalls something. "You may notice some temporary loss of dexterity as the cybernetics re-adjust to your neural signals. The auto-adjusting settings were wiped with the reset. It will be nothing like the initial acclimation period, but... something to
keep in mind for the next day or two. Consider doing some simple hand exercises." She waits for a moment to see if there are any questions, studying him.
Jason bites down at the information, the slight change in dexterity not having gone unnoticed. He merely nods his head, avoiding eye contact. "...Yeah." he says. With a deep sigh, he steps past Halisi, reaching up to give her a gentle pat on the shoulder. "Thanks, doc... I'll get out of your hair so you can get back to work."
Halisi turns around as Jason goes to leave, smiling softly despite her exhaustion. "Try to get some rest, will you?"
Jason snorts as he starts towards the door. He raises a hand, giving a half-hearted wave behind him. "You know what they say. No rest for the wicked." he says as he continues out of the room.
