Elena 's smile wavers and fades as it's pointed out, although she tries to hide it by taking a swig from her drink. Her gaze falls away from Shane for a moment, although she looks back just in time to catch him eyeing the krogan. She follows his gaze, a questioning look on her face as she turns back to him. "You banned or something?" she snorts.

Shane furrows his brow as Elena takes notice of his interest in the bouncer, but he's quick to prop that dumb grin of his back up and give a playful roll of his eyes. "Nah. Nothing like that." he says, taking a brief sip of his drink once more before setting it back down. He draws in a breath as he casts another quick glance towards Wrend. "Just-..." he begins to explain, but gives a shake of his head and a small, self conscious

chuckle as he glances back to Elena, grin still persisting as he cuts himself short.

Elena shifts forward a bit, leaning more heavily against the table. "Juuust...?" she prods with a raised eyebrow, and a fleeting hint of superficial amusement. She doesn't leave her beer on the table for long before taking another sip, gaze drifting off for a moment afterwards.

Shane's gains an unamused expression as Elena continues to prod, cocking his head to the side slightly. With a playful sigh, he casts one last glance towards the towering krogan who is wrapping up his talk with Molly and starting back towards the door he emerged from, as if to keep tabs on him before looking back to Elena. He beckons her closer with a wave of his index and middle finger as he leans across the table to meet her

halfway.

Elena 's attention quickly turns back to Shane, mild curiosity breaking her distracted expression for a moment as she shifts her weight to lean a little closer, glancing out across the bar again while she awaits an explanation.

Shane gives an overly dramatic suspicious glance about the bar before bringing his lips beside Elena's ear and explaining in a whisper: "Guy who owns this place is a real piece of work and, on occasion, expensive equipment gets moved through here. Was planning on taking a bit of that off his hands before I head home but-... Well, the krogan complicates things a little." he says before settling back into his seat and meeting Elena's

eyes with a shrug as he tries to get a read on her reaction. He's unable to maintain the theatrics for long, however, as that dumb grin sprawls across his face soon enough and a chuckle begins to claw its way out.

Elena doesn't seem entirely sure how to react as she settles back into her seat, an ambivalent look lingering on her face until Shane's expression breaks, at which point she snorts and shakes her head. "Me da igual, comemierda..." she mutters, a faint smirk briefly crossing her lips as she continues to shake her head. With the assumption that he's messing with her, she takes another sip of her beer.

Shane's chuckle grows as Elena catches on that she's just being fucked with. "If you must know-..." he relents, "...it was about three years ago. Me and the guys were on leave at the Citadel, checking out this nice little club down in the Tayseri Ward. This krogan- big motherfucker-..." he qualifies, puffing up his shoulders briefly for emphasis, "...seems to think I'm making eyes at this asari he's with. I don't know where he

got that idea." The smile that accompanies his statement makes it clear that the krogan probably wasn't wrong. "Anyway, we exchanged some words. Things may have escalated a bit and-..." he lays his right arm across the table, tugging his rolled up sleeve slightly more, "...ended the night in a hospital bed. Arm broken in three places." With his left hand, he points out a small light patch on his dark skin near his right

wrist where a small scar resides. "I got some good shots in, though!" he's quick to add, that big grin of his only widening. "Guess they just make me a little uneasy after all that..."

Elena looks a little amused as she listens, eventually letting out a chuckle as her smirk returns, no doubt helped by the amount of alcohol she's consumed. "Barfight with a krogan... should've fucking figured." she mutters, smirk lingering as she leans in to take a look at the scar on his arm. She shakes her head slightly as she leans back into her seat, glancing out across the bar. "Didn't see any asari with him, so I think

you're safe..." she assures in a mocking tone as her gaze returns to Shane.

Shane gives a roll of his eyes at Elena's teasing and a sarcastic 'Hah. Hah. Hah.' as he tugs his sleeve down a bit. "You're hilarious." he says dryly, but his smile persists. Not the most flattering of stories, but at the very least it seems to have helped keep her mind off of her own troubles for now. He casts another glance out across the bar as he takes a sip from his glass.

Elena 's smirk fades as they fall into silence. There's a momentary break in her facade as she swallows, gaze lingering on her drink for a moment. She takes a sip and looks back at Shane as tries to keep her mind from wandering. As she tries and fails to summon some insignificant anecdote to keep the conversation going a frustrated chuckle slips out, a heavy sigh following as she gives up. She lets her gaze wander across the bar

for a moment, avoiding Shane as she chews on the inside of her lip. She looks over at him briefly, opening her mouth as if to say something, but instead she just shakes her head and emtpies out the reminder of her beer.

Shane looks back to Elena, attention pulled back her way as she chuckles. As he catches her eye, he averts his gaze down to his beer when it becomes obvious that the heaviness of her situation is catching up to her once again. When she slugs back her drink, he offers a sympathetic look her way, his carefree grin having vanished, leaving his lips a straight line. "...Yeah." he sighs with a couple of small nods, no stranger to what

she must be going through right now. He rises a bit off his seat and grabs the pitcher, having to lean forward a bit to refill Elena's glass for her. "You just focus on knocking 'em down and I'll keep on setting 'em up." he says, attempting to muster a bit of playfulness as a hollow shadow of that grin forms briefly.

Elena lifts her refilled glass in silent thanks, taking a sip. She allows herself to relax in her seat, not in any rush to speak. "Where you from, Shane...?" she asks. There's a lack of energy in both voice and eyes - perhaps the shift in mood, or the drinks catching up to her. Maybe both. She shifts in her seat as she studies him with a slightly titled head, gaze a little unfocused.

Shane lowers back into his seat after topping his own beer off. His gaze wanders to his drink, idly rotating it in place as he listens to Elena's question. The hollow grin on his face widens slightly, but grows no more genuine. He goes to speak, but cuts himself off with a snicker and a shake of his head. It's a complicated question to answer, so he decides instead to try and keep it simple. "Earth." he says as he looks back to

her. "UNAS." He gives a small nod towards her as she lifts his drink up. "What about you?" he asks before taking a sip.

Elena briefly flashes a half-hearted smirk, nodding. "Yo también... Texas." she offers. She slowly takes another sip of her beer, a quiet sigh following. "Haven't been back much since I signed up, yeah?" she says with a faint, empty chuckle.

Shane gives a single nod, briefly raising his beer slightly off the table in unity as Elena reveals where she's from. "You got family back home?" he asks, trying to keep the conversation moving to, hopefully, prevent her mood from falling again.

Elena tries to muster a smile, but it falters quickly. "Yeah. Yeah. My mami and... my sister." For a moment it looks like she's going to say something else, but instead she sucks in her lips, reaching for her beer as she blinks a few times. An uncomfortable, or almost frustrated chuckle slips out and she's quick to ask: "What about you?" in an effort to turn the attention away from her as she takes a longer sip of the beer.

Shane nods a couple of times as he listens, Elena's discomfort not going unnoticed. He draws in a breath, settling against the backrest of his seat, one hand remaining on his beer. "Nah. I bounced around from foster home to foster home til' I was about-... 16?" he says, propping that charming smile of his back up to make it known that it's not a sore spot for him. "I might've been a bit of a hellraiser." he adds with a snicker,

"Alliance straightened me right out, though. But-... yeah. No family back home." He gives a dismissive shrug. "Sam and the others? That's my family." he says with a nod, and it seems sincere. There's no bitterness. "And I'm damn lucky to have them."

Elena snickers as she listens to Shane, taking another sip. The last comment elicits a faint, but genuine smile. She nods a few times as it fades. "It-... it's nice. That you guys stuck together after getting out." she comments. "You find people like that? You-You gotta look out for each other. Yeah." Another sip. "Gotta have people you can trust." Another nod, and a blink as her gaze wanders a little to other patrons before

going back to Shane.

Shane's gaze remains on Elena, grin faltering slightly as he listens to her talk and realizes he's probably not helping steer her thoughts away from everything. "Yeah..." he nods along. "If there's one thing I've learned, it's that family doesn't have shit to do with blood..." he says. He falls quiet for a few moments as his mind wanders to what must be going through her head before finally breaching the silence ocne more. "For what

it's worth, I-... I'm sorry about what happened, Elena. I-... Uhh-... Yeah-..." he trails off with a small nod, instantly turning his attention to the table. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't feel comfortable bringing it back up. But he meets her gaze once more with a small shake of his head, "That's all. I'm not gonna-... I know you don't need some random dude-..." he sighs, giving a frustrated chuckle at his inability to

reach any sort of point. "...I'm just sorry. That's all."

Elena flashes a hollow smile. "Yeah... yeah, me too." she sighs. She runs a hand through her hair, shaking her head to herself as she looks past Shane. She draws in a long breath, and takes another long sip from her glass. She studies his expression for a moment. "You-.. you don't gotta say shit, entiendes? Not your job. Not gonna-... doesn't change shit. I just wanna drink. And... and not talk about the giant... fucking...

pinche-embrujada-espacio-colmena-asesina-pesadilla..." she trails off into mumbles, seemingly not realizing that she's the one that's bringing it up now. More beer follows an uneasy snort.

Shane furrows his brow, merely listening. As she trails off into jibberish, he gives a soft nod. "Yeah, I get it..." he says, thankful for the presence of his translator. "You want me to just shut up, sit here, look pretty, and get trashed with you? Then I'll shut up, sit here, and look pretty while we get trashed." he agrees, doing his best to prop his grin back up as he prods at her leg playfully beneath the table with his shoe.

"But if not?" he continues, his grin falling away once more as he gives a small shrug, bringing one arm to rest along the back of his seat's backrest. "If you wanna get out of here? Get some air? Take a walk?" He lowers his voice, as if saying it aloud might upset someone when he adds: "Talk about it." Perhaps it's just a reflection of his own discomfort. "That works, too." His grin returns, if only partially, as he shrugs

his shoulders once more. "Hell, I'm on vacation, so I got all night." he adds, unable to resist injecting his usual brand of lightheartedness despite the nature of the conversation.

Elena 's attention gradually refocuses on Shane as he speaks. Despite the obviously distraught mindstate that she's doing her best to hide away a faint grin manifests in response to his initial offer. As he goes on she eventually lets out a quiet sigh. "I'm... gonna stay right here. Finish that..." she says, pointing a finger at the container of beer that Shane brought. "...you wanna stick around? Ain't gonna say no the company,

yeah?" With that, she takes a long swig of her beer.

Shane straightens up in his seat, holding Elena's gaze. "Well, I can't just leave a fellow marine without a drinking buddy, now can I? My CO would have my ass." he teases, giving a roll of his shoulders and tilts his head hard to the right to crack his neck, as if prepping himself for a fight (Or in this case, a night of hard drinking) before reaching for his drink again and sliding it closer to him. "So I guess you're stuck with

me for the night. Elena." he adds, his grin finally fully manifesting as he puts that dumb Spanish twist on her name again.
