#Miner'sRespite – November 13, 2014
Vasquez enters the Respite and heads towards the stairs immediately, her face tense from thought. Her shoulder catches that of another patron on her way up the stairs but she keeps moving at a quick pace.
Jason is up in their room, seated at the edge of the bed, poking away at his omni-tool with a scowl on his face.
Vasquez enters the room and slumps right into the chair by her desk. She runs a hand through her hair while staring at inactive projectors for the monitor without acknowledging Jason's presence.
Jason glances up as Vasquez enters the room and he jumps to his feet, following her over to the desk. "Well this is a fucking shitstorm. Guessing you got the same message from Rellis that I did? How are we handling this, Linda?"
Vasquez drums her fingers against the desk for a few seconds, before turning to Jason. "They need to pay. They're not getting him for free." Octopus
Jason groans but nods, "So what are we doing? His message seemed pretty clear. He's not interested in negotiations."
Vasquez makes a slight grimace as she thinks. "They'll... they'll pay. They have to, if they want him back. I can get the militia to back us up. They wouldn't risk an attack then."
Well whatever we're doing, we need to do it fast. We've got Ren and Mendez stuck down at the hospital with Jelvan. Once the clock ticks down, they're going to be sitting ducks.
Vasquez nods and activates the monitor before she starts typing. "We'll move him. I don't think the militia will let us keep him in the hospital, and it's not the most secure location. We'll set up security in case they find out where." She pauses briefly. "They'll pay. And then we can rebuild."
Jason furrows his brow. "And where exactly are we going to move him to? I'm gonna be real pissed off if I find out you let me sleep on this hard mattress when this entire time you had some secret summer home tucked away..." he jokes, somewhat anxiously.
Vasquez stops typing, considering the question for a moment before answering. "I have something in mind. Tell Jasper to get the shuttle to the hospital and get Mendez and T'Iavay to bring the salarian. I'll talk to the militia before contacting Rellis. 'Not open for negotiation'... we'll see."
Jason frowns at the lack of information, but sighs and nods. "Sure..." he says before shaking his head and poking at his omni-tool once again. "Should I have him swing by and pick us up after?"
Vasquez shakes her head. "No, tell them to head back to our shuttle hangar at the spaceport before contacting me."
Vasquez seems to have finished with the computer for the moment, and gets out of her chair, heading over to a crate in the corner of the room. "This is going to work. We're going to get back on our feet now."
Jason continues staring at his omni-tool for a few moments after it lets out a sharp beep. After skimming over the message, he allows the interface to dissipate and looks over at Vasquez with a short nod. "Let's hope so..." he says before making his way over to his crated gear, "We're running out of options here."
Vasquez takes the Confetti Maker out of the crate, looking it over to make sure it's ready - just in case. "I'm aware of that."
Jason begins removing his armor from the case as well as his undersuit and starts gearing up. "I'm also not convinced that Rellis is the type to just let something like this go..." he says, "Let's say he decides to pay up and we hand Jelvan back over. Do you think that'll be the end of this?"
Vasquez shrugs. "Maybe not... but all we need is for the militia to support us until we can rebuild our strength, and then we'll be able to fight them off if they try anything. And hey, if we're lucky they'll just settle for having Jelvan back."
Vasquez looks at Jason as he starts putting on the armor. "Suppose it's best if we're ready. At least until Rellis replies." She slips out of her clothes before taking her own undersuit from the crate and starting to put it on.
Jason puts his chestplate in place and raps his knuckles against it. "Call me paranoid, but when a man who hired me to kill someone else threatens my life, I like to put as much between me and him as possible..."
Vasquez smirks slightly as she starts buckling pieces of her Ariake Tech armor on, but she doesn't say anything.
Jason begins adjusting the plates on his armor once they're all attached. "I'm worried that we might be burning all our 'militia cards' early here. If we keep involving them in our trouble, I doubt they're going to want us around..."
Vasquez finishes putting on a boot and waves a hand dismissingly. "It's fine. We're an asset. We can help protect the town."
Jason laughs humorlessly. "Uh huh. Yep. Protect the town from a bunch of nuts that we attracted to the town in the first place..." He swivels in place and tilts his head to the side and touches his chin, giving Vasquez a goofy wink. "How do I look?" he asks, as if they're about to go out on a date.
Vasquez fiddles with a pauldron while turning to look at Jason. "Dashing." She rolls her eyes and steps over to the desk, grabbing her Shuriken and holstering it at her side - there is a clink as the eezo field locks the sidearm in place.
Jason follows suit as he reaches into the crate and begins holstering his weapons - Phalanx on his thigh, and Revenant on his back. "At least I'll make a handsome corpse. Guess we're ready to roll?"
Vasquez heads back to the computer, leaning over the chair and checking something. She types up a response before nodding. "I'll contact Rellis once we have word from the others."
Vasquez types for a while longer before pushing off from the desk, staring at the screen in silence.
Vasquez keeps looking at the screen until a message pops up. A moment later she turns to Jason. "Yeah, we've got them. I get the feeling it's going to cost me though."
Vasquez grabs the Confetti Maker, flipping a few switches before putting it on the desk. "Sounds like a plan."
Jason slots his omni-tool into his armor as it begins to beep. The orange interface wraps around his arm and he looks it over. "Jasper just picked 'em up. They're on their way to the spaceport." he informs.
Vasquez nods and takes a seat by the desk. "Mendez and T'Iavay will guard the salarian. Jasper can go home. Contact everyone else, see if anyone can make it there on short notice. I'd like as heavy a guard as we can muster. We'll only need to keep him until they pay."
Vasquez shakes her head. "No, we're going too. Full force, right?" She grabs her machinegun and holsters it with a grunt - it is rather unwieldy to carry.
