#Catacombs – March 26, 2015
Damien is still very much unconscious, armless and in a pretty bad condition. His breathing is still incredibly laboured and his face crusted with dry blood.
Jattic continues to study the ladder. "If he's able to get himself out, would you be able to hold the wounded, using your biotics obviously... And grab ahold of the ladder? Garr could pull you up."
Halisi glances at Jason before heading out of the APC. She glances a the woodline before moving towards the elevator shaft.
Garr doesn't really care if anyone gets in the way and gathers up his biotics, charging up into the elevator shaft.
Garr reaches the top of the elevator shaft, although he strikes the edge, causing a few chunks of concrete to fall lose and tumble down the shaft. (Halisi)
Garr has caused bigger destructions than this and doesn't give a damn. He heaves himself over the rim and takes a look around.
The concrete chunks tumble down the shaft along with a stream of water from the now-broken moat. It is soon over. (Halisi)
Jattic crouches down beside Philip and begins to prepare him for Ilyna. He lifts the young man in his arms and takes a position beside the ladder.
Halisi stumbles back slightly as Garr charges out of the concrete shaft, but she soon moves up to the edge again.
Garr leans down and shouts, deep voice echoing in the elevator shaft. "All right, you can send the baggage up."
Ilyna walks over to the ladder, taking a moment to gather her courage for the risky plan. Biotic shimmer envelops her as she grabs ahold of the ladder, and soon the field would be around Philip; gradually making him lighter until he is nearly weightless. "I'm ready," she says, reaching out one hand to take ahold of him.
Jattic passes Philip off and takes a step back. He moves over to Monroe to begin prepping him for movement. "Time to get out of this place." he growls to the man as he takes a knee beside him.
Ilyna grabs ahold of him and secures him to the ladder as much as she can. She loses her footing for a moment during the unannounced pull, but manages to regain it after a second.
Damien would respond by saying, "Thank fuck". But, since he is unconscious, he simply sits there... Considerably pale.
Garr hoists Ilyna up and greets her by shoving his grinning face right into hers when she is in reach. It's probably a friendly grin, though the stench of krogan lack of oral hygiene detracts from the gesture a little. "Enjoying the ride, bluie?"
Ilyna gets pulled onto the krogan, but the helmet's visor gets in the way. She loses balance and her grip on Phillip loosens. "A little," she says, not making it clear whether she's serious.
Garr gives Ilyna a big krogan grin and holds out his hand for Phillip. "There, I'll take the lazy bugger, you've got some more lifting to do, eh?"
Garr notices, but weight isn't really relevant to him. Assuming Ilyna is standing on real ground, he drops the rope ladder for her to take back down and then looks around for somewhere to put the human meatbag.
Yeah, yeah. Can't believe we're going to so much trouble for these wimps. Ya know, if this were Tuchanka, nobody would be fussing over them.
Ilyna is breathing heavily and takes the moment to eat one of the slightly water-damaged energy bars she brought. Afterwards, she throws away the empty wrapping and approaches the edge. If the ladder did surive the careless treatment, she begins her descent.
Jattic glances over to the ladder as it rolls back down. "Let's get this over with." he sighs as he cradles Monroe and hoists him up. He moves back towards the ladder and waits for Ilyna to descend low enough to hand him off.
Damien twitches in his sleep. And then he starts to thrash wildly in Jattic's arms, his face contorting in sheer terror.
Ilyna stops when she's nearly down, and enables her comms. "Tell me when you're ready to lift the ladder, Garr," she says. "And then wait for Kur'don's signal before you pull me up." After that, she continues until she's just outside the hallway.
Jattic leans his head back upon Damien beginning to thrash. "Calm down, human! You'll be back on solid ground soon enough." he says. He leans towards Ilyna to hand him off (Hand him off).
Garr gives Halisi his best angry-krogan glare and shoves her out of the way with enough force to toss her a few metres, but he does dump Phillip on the back of the vehicle before moving back to the hole. "Yeah, all right. Anytime now, bluie. Hurry it up before I grow old! Hah!"
Jason snaps his attention to the krogan as he enters the APC. "Garr... Garr..." he calls out, reaching towards the krogan with his good arm, "Gotta-... Just... Help me up..." he groans.
Garr shouts over his shoulder to Jason. "Can't do everything at once, Wolfe. Ya're the one who insisted we bring these piles of skin and bones."
He seems to be having an episode. Would recommend keeping him restrained. Without the arm, it's less of an issue.
Ilyna does not take ahold of him while he's thrashing, because it's less dangerous to do that over the floor. "Calm down," she says. "We're trying to help you get to the surface." A biotic shimmer starts to form around her person.
Halisi puts her hands around her leg to pull it out of the mud it sunk into from being pushed by Garr. She starts moving towards the elevator shaft upon hearing the commotion.
Jattic waits for a few moments once Monroe calms his shit and then attempts to pass him off to Ilyna once more. "Seems to be calming down."
Ilyna nods and the biotic field starts to sorround him, but she awaits his reaction to the field instead of pulling him away from the hallway. "Don't panic," she says. "I'm using a biotic field to keep you floating. I know it can feel strange."
Leah continues to stare up distantly, her chest heaving with each breath. "You're gonna be fine, Monroe." she says, "Just hang in there..."
Ilyna pulls him towards her and secures her free arm around him as best as she can. "Not matter what happens, don't move," she says. It takes a few seconds before she nods and looks at the batarian expectantly.
Jattic steps over towards Leah and leans down beside her. "You're up next." he says, "Sounds like moving you too much might cause damage, so we'll wait until she gets back down here. Keep the movement to a minimum."
Garr gets Ilyna to the top with a minimum amount of fuss and peers at Damien. "You sure you don't want to just scrap him for spare parts?"
Halisi seems about to protest but reconsiders at the last moment and kneels down behind Damien, getting her arms under him and starting to drag the man through the mud with a grunt.
Halisi gets Damien into the vehicle, placing him carefully next to Philip and Jason. "Don't worry. Everything will be fine, we just need to get back to the ship..."
Jason snaps his head around to look over those who just arrived. "You have to.... help me up!" he repeats to Garr, "I-... I'm fine..."
Garr looks Jason over. "Look, I'm not big on human physiology and all that, but I'm pretty sure your arm's not s'posed to look like that, buddy."
Jason furrows his brow, his breathing getting a bit heavier. "Fuck the arm!" he grunts with a loud outburst, "I-... we need to find her! Something is wrong... She wouldn't-..." he bites down as a sharp pain shoots through his body as he tries to move, "....she wouldn't just... do that...."
Damien reaches up to hold his hands to his head... Only to discover one is present. He slowly looks down at his stump, eyes widening in shock, his lips moving wordlessly.
Jason struggles a bit in an attempt at sitting up. Without much success, he lays his head back down and reaches up with his good hand to rub at his head. "Please..."
Halisi curses faintly and takes out a sedative, injecting Damien with it and then proceeding to clean the needle before moving towards Jason.
Jason eyes the needle as Halisi approaches. "No..." he says, lifting his good hand, "No! I... I need to stay-... alert..."
Now listen up, Jace. You're in no state to go chasing anyone, ya hear? We'll get that damsel of yours, don't ya worry. Not gonna let a fertile female get away, eh?
Ilyna has now climed down the ladder again and is now ready to get Leah. She had also had another space-snickers. "Garr, get into position and wait for Kur'don's signal."
Jattic carefully wraps his arms around Leah. "Alright, up we go." he says as he heaves her upwards. He makes his way over to Ilyna, leaning out and attempting to hand her off.
Halisi gently holds Jason down and shakes her head, pushing the needle in and injecting the sedative. "Krogan. Bring Leah up."
You do realize this is a life or death situation? You are the only one that can pull them up. Do it now. We're low on time.
Jason swats at Halisi's arm ineffectively. He tilts his head back as the sedative enters his veins. "Halisi...."
Garr looms over Halisi and shoves his face right up at hers. "You ain't paying me, woman. You're just some random tag-along who can't even hold a gun. If you try to order me around again, I will toss you down that hole."
Ilyna prepares her biotics and the field will soon form around Leah, and she takes her by the time it has rendered her weightless. She secures her and nods to the batarian.
Halisi meets Garr's gaze. "I'm trying to save these people's lives. That's the only thing that matters right now."
Ilyna nods. "Yes," she responds into the comms while strengthening the biotic field and holding on thigher. She is assuming the krogan just prefers shouting to using comms rather than the actual case.
Jason was still shot by a fucking shotgun at point blank range. He's lost a lot of blood and is extremely pale.
Garr still does not have comms, but is close enough to hear anyway, thanks to the elevator shaft's wonderful acoustics. He starts pulling up the ladder again.
(Comms) We can leave the dead behind if we must. If he's not in any shape to object, then what does it matter?"
Ilyna keeps holding on to Leah, although the field is not as consistent as it was with the others. She finds herself nodding along to the comms chatter, and as much as she thinks they deserve a proper service back on Aite, she doesn't have much left in her.
Garr catches Ilyna with one arm and takes Leah with the other, grinning widely. "Ye're looking tired there, kid."
Ilyna is hoping Garr will have the decency to put her on stable ground, because she's not trying to find stable ground herself. Her grip around Leah also loosens after a few seconds. "Yeah," she mutters between labored breaths.
Garr grins and kicks the ladder back down, slinging Ilyna over one shoulder and keeping Leah under his arm. "Not bad for a squishy asari."
Ilyna doesn't put up any resistance, even if it's a rather uncomfortable. She doesn't give any verbal response, either.
Jattic looks towards the ladder as it skitters back down. He takes a knee beside Vaden and places a hand on the dead salarian's shoulder. "Rest well." he says, giving his fallen comrade a pat. He glances over at Fatsani with a sigh, upset that he couldn't do more. He takes one last look down the hall and begins his ascent on the ladder.
Ilyna lets a few seconds pass before she slowly gets up enough to find a seat to sit on. "Thank you," she says towards Garr. "Sorry... I can't bring up the fallen."
Jattic grunts as he reaches the top and pulls himself onto solid ground. He looks back into the hole and spits before making his way over to the APC.
Halisi gives Leah another scan. "We need to get out of here. Now. Does anyone know how to drive this thing?"
Ilyna frowns. "Just... be careful, Kur'don," she says. "We have enough injured." Her weary voice made it hard to discern whether she is joking. She then puts on the harness.
Sounds like a plan. We drop the wounded off at the ship, then rendezvous with the rest of the team, yeah?
Ilyna nods. "Of course," she says. "We don't have any choice if our injured are to survive." She looks towards Jason and whispers, "I'm... sorry."
Jattic cocks an eye up towards the new sound, but doesn't seem to pay it much mind. "Consider it done." he says as he moves to the front of the APC and takes a seat. It takes him several attempts to actually get the APC running. Eventually, he manages to get the back door closed. "What is it that insufferable old man always says...?" he mutters loudly, "Ahh... Yes... Hold on to your assholes!" he growls as the wheels begin to
rotate in place, kicking mud everywhere for a solid few seconds before the entire APC jolts forward.
Ilyna is jolted to the side, but the harness keeps her in place with her helmet knocking agains the wall. She then takes the helmet off and holds it.
Halisi is still kneeling next to Leah when the APC jumps to a start, causing her to get tossed over Leah and Damien.
Leah lets out a loud, pained grunt as she's shuffled around. She gives off a whimper once Halisi is tossed atop her.
Jattic really floors it, causing the tail-end to swing back and forth as the APC lurches up the slope. "Too much mud." he announces, "Difficult to navigate."
The APC miraculously manages to reach the top of the slope, and starts off down the muddy forest road. (Halisi)
Jattic calms it down somewhat once they crest the slope, but still seems to be taking things much quicker than would be advised. "As well as our odor."
On the road ahead sits Jasper's truck, immobile and with the rear end sunk into the mud. Athorus and some others are standing outside, trying to figure out what to do. (Halisi)
Leah winces a few times. "What happened with Jason...?" she asks as she stares up at the ceiling of the APC.
Ilyna looks towards the front, but can't really see much. "He was shot by the time I got to him," she answers the question. "And they took Vasquez."
Jattic hammers on the brakes, causing the APC to skid across the mud and slide somewhat sideways as it skids to a stop. "We got Charlie in the road!" he announces.
Jattic opens the back hatch of the APC once it has come to a full stop. "Seem to be having some vehicle trouble." he says, standing from his seat.
Ilyna nods. "I know," she simply answers Leah before unharnessing and standing up from her seat. She starts making her way out of the truck to meet the Charlie squad.
Jasper is standing near the rear of the truck with his hands on his hips. His boots are sunk deep into the mud. "Well, dang... Ain't you a sight for sore eyes, four-eyes." he says. He grins sheepishly and adjusts his cap, "Well whaddya know, s'pose I'm a poet..."
Mendez is straining, letting out a loud groan as he struggles to push the truck out of the mud. With every push, he only seems to be digging himself further into the mud.
Athorus lowers his rifle at the sight of the others and gives them a nod. "Little help here?" (Halisi)
Jattic continues towards the truck. "Happy to see you haven't keeled over from old age yet, Jasper." he grunts as he clasps a hand on the older man's shoulder and then moves on to the rear of the truck. He takes a position beside Mendez and joins in on the struggle.
The children are still seated in the back of the truck. They don't seem to pay much attention to the new arrivals, although one of them does glance briefly at the krogan. (Halisi)
We're totin' some baggage, big guy. Thing needs to work 'less we all wanna be crowded into that thing.
Steve is seated in the back of the truck with his arms crossed. His SMG is hanging in his hand, loosely pointed at Father Marchal.
Father Marchal is sitting in silence, his hands restrained behind his back. The children have been looking at him every now and then. (Halisi)
Jattic continues to struggle against the truck. "Just.... brace your self against it and urge it forward, krogan. Not asking you to punch the damn thing."
Steve tips a bit and grabs onto a handhold to brace himself. "Shit. Little warning would be nice." he grumbles.
Jasper gives Halisi a shake of his head. "We lost one. But the rest of ours are alright. Nothin' that can't wait 'till we get back to the ship, anyway."
Ilyna frowns. "We lost two, and four are severely injured," she returns a status report to Jasper. "And Vasquez is missing."
Jasper gains a concerned look. "Not good. Who did we lose?" he asks sadly, ".... An' do we have any lead on where the Chief got off to?"
Ilyna lowers her head for a moment. "Noran and... Fatsani," she says. "We... couldn't bring their bodies out. I'm sorry."
As for the chief, I don't know. I heard a vehicle, but if you haven't seen it... then your guess is as good as mine.
Jattic slips forward into the mud as the truck gives way. He lets out a loud growl as he climbs back to his feet and begins shaking mud off his hands.
Jasper sighs and shakes his head. "We ain't seen nothin' out in our direction. What's the plan from here?"
We need to get the injured back to the ship, and then look for Vasquez. We have no other choice if they're to survive.
Jasper gives a nod. "Sounds like a plan." he says, casting a glance at the truck. "Looks like we're all ready to mount up and get movin'. We've got some fresh faces that could do with a rest out of this rain, too."
Father Marchal looks with mild interest at the other team as they remove the truck from the mud. (Halisi)
Mendez takes a couple heavy steps out of the mud and grabs the tailgate. He hoists himself up and into the back of the truck, leaving a trail of mud in his wake.
Athorus nods at Ilyna. "We should move then. He moves over to the front of the truck and sits down in the passenger seat, still keeping an eye on the side of the road. (Halisi)
Steve eyes Father Marchal. "Don't even look at 'em." he spits, "Eyes down before I decide to blow 'em out the back of your fucking head. Understand?"
Ilyna nods. "We'll lead the way," she says, "in case the enemy plans to ambush us on the way back." After that, she steps inside and reclaims her seat.
Jasper returns to his seat in the truck and starts it up. "Sounds like they're in a bad way." he sighs to Athorus.
Jattic tracks mud all through the APC on his way to the front. He plants himself in the seat, starts the APC back up, and closes the rear hatch once everyone is onboard once again.
Jattic starts off slowly to correct the APC and inch around the others. Once he's clear of the truck, he picks up the pace a bit, although not nearly as quick as before out of fear of losing Jasper.
