#Susanna – March 9, 2015
The final day of the journey is almost at an end. The captain announced some time ago that mere hours were left until arrival in the system.
Garr is limbering up and stretching, which sends the occasional booming footfall echoing around the cargo bay.
Ilyna is sitting on her bed, putting the final pieces of her armor on. A Phalanx pistol and her Hurricane SMG are laying on her bed along with a large number of clips and a pouch containing two frag grenades and a handful of energy bars.
Athorus stands in the cargo hold, focused on some imaginary enemy out in space. He's wearing his combat gear, and is shadowboxing.
Jason is back in his blue-and-white hardsuit, going over his weapons once more as he holsters them. He glances around for Vasquez.
Leah is all business, a departure from her carefree attitude the past few days as she paces back and forth across the passenger's module. Her long blonde hair is pulled back into a tight ponytail and her Mattock is holstered on the back of her light blue hardsuit. (Jason_Wolfe)
Fatsani follows the decoy with her gaze as it circles the passenger module - she stops to open her Crusader and slam in an incendiary ammunition block.
Jasper is wearing a pair of greyish-blue coveralls. His cap seems to have accumulated a bit more dirt and grime during their trip. He's sitting atop his bed. His Avenger is leaned against the wall beside his bed. (Jason_Wolfe)
Vasquez walks past in the corridor - she's wearing her Redrock uniform with the jacket open, her kuwashii visor and a belted shield generator. Her machine pistol is holstered on her hip.
Mendez makes his way over to the cargo hold with his shotgun in hand. He takes a seat atop a crate and begins going over his weapon. (Jason_Wolfe)
Bayani walks into the cargo hold. He's wearing a set of gray heavy armor and is packing a ridiculous amount of weapons.
Jattic stands against the wall near Jasper. They're still going on about the shuttle, as they have the entire trip, but the conversation isn't nearly as energetic as it once was. Long uncomfortable pauses stand out between each sentence, as if both of their minds are elsewhere. (Jason_Wolfe)
Jason spots Vasquez and gives an attempt at a whistle, which fails miserably. "Linda!" he calls out as he reaches down and grabs his sheathed blade out of his footlocker. "You got time to gimme a hand with this?"
Jason thrusts the sheathed weapon towards her. "Latches just behind the shoulder. I'm not in the mood to fuck with it." he says. The sheathe is a three point sheathe that isn't specifically designed for use with a hardsuit. One strap goes over one shoulder, one over the other, and one beneath the arm. "Takes me forever to get it on my own."
Vasquez ' stressed expression softens a bit. She grabs the sheathe and moves up to Jason, starting to put the straps into place - she grunts as one of them gets stuck on the shoulderpad temporarily.
Mendez glances over at the drell. "I don't see how swinging at air is going to prepare you for these things. Unless you plan on missing a whole lot." (Jason_Wolfe)
Vasquez has gained a faint grin by the time she's finished with the sheathe, but it quickly gives way to her previous worried expression. She drags Jason along out into the corridor.
Jason allows himself to be lead out into the hall by Vasquez. "What's up? Everything alright?" he asks.
The ship can be felt dropping out of FTL. Captain Kleiner's voice comes on the speakers with his best imitation of a commercial pilot. "This is the Captain speaking, we have arrived in the Di Yu system. We will be landing shortly."
Leah glances between Victoria and Ilyna, having grown more comfortable with them since their recent job together. "Sounds like it won't be long now." she sighs. (Jason_Wolfe)
Vasquez looks over to the side before shaking her head. "No, I-..." She looks at Jason. "You trust me, right?"
Jason furrows his brow and puts a hand against the wall, leaning against it. "Uhh... Yeah? Of course." he says, "Now what's going on?"
Vasquez sighs. "I just... needed to hear you say it. I love you, okay? Remember that, no matter what happens."
Halisi walks into the cargo hold from the infirmary. She's wearing her set of white light armor, with a medical satchel slung over her shoulder.
Steve snorts loudly and scoops his helmet off the bed. "You weren't even there, Vicky. You have no idea just how bad this is going to get..." he scoffs.
Jason gains a confused expression. "I trust you." he says aloud, looking a bit worried, "Linda... What's going on?"
Vasquez ' gaze falls briefly. "Nothing..." She grabs Jason's hand and pulls him in for a kiss before walking past him towards the cargo hold. "Come on, we're landing soon."
Jason returns the kiss, feeling incredibly uneasy over the whole ordeal, but he follows closely behind her.
Tarlon looks a bit sick, but gets up and retrieves his decoy transmitter, moving towards the airlock with an expression of distinct apprehension.
Jattic begins to make his way towards the cargo hold with Jasper in tow, who has retrieved his Avenger. (Jason_Wolfe)
Vasquez comes to a stop in front of the APC, steadying herself as the shuttle rocks with a hand against it. She looks around at the team that is starting to gather.
Ilyna leans over her bag, picking up a medi-gel canister and puts it into a compartment in the armor. She takes another one out of the bag before closing it and standing up.
Tarlon avoids the crowd and especially the krogan, and slinks off to somewhere near the back of the cargo bay.
Leah remains close to Ilyna. She raises her eyebrows and lets out a deep breath. "Guess we should head off to the cargo bay..." (Jason_Wolfe)
Ilyna moves the greandes out of the pouch and attaches them to her armor before putting the spare medi-gel into it instead. "Give me a second," she says. She attaches the pouch and pistols to her armor and turns towards the door.
Jason moves over to Tarlon's side as he spots him and clasps a hand on his shoulder. "You ready for this, bud?"
Jason smirks and shakes his head, "You're sorta stuck with your decision at this point." he says, "But I'm gonna make sure we all make it out of here today."
The shuddering grows milder - a hazy gray sky can now be seen out the windows of the freighter. Frequent flashes of lightning illuminate it.
Of course. Bad weather. Don't know why I expected any different. Cannot have hard missions without also trudging through cold rain.
Jason glances towards the windows and sighs. "I certainly don't plan on dying here, Tarlon. Got too much left to do."
Ilyna makes her way out of the passenger cabin and into the cargo bay. She's is fully equipped, but her weapons aren't loaded.
Steve starts making his way towards the cargo bay as well, leaving a bit of distance between himself and the two women.
Vasquez speaks up once the entirety of the team is gathered. "Alright everyone, you know why we're here and you know who we're fighting. We're going to try to get some information out of the locals in this town before heading out. "Once we do, we will go in this..." She slams her fist against the APC. "...which I'll drive. And that..." She gestures at a yellow wheeled truck with a tarp-covered steel-frame roof over the back. "...which
Jasper lifts his filthy cap off his balding head and holds it into the air, giving a sort of embarrassed wave. (Jason_Wolfe)
Vasquez shakes her head. "No, not as far as we've been able to tell - still, keep your eyes open. For this mission you will be divided into three squads. A-squad will be led by Wolfe, and consists of Halisi, Mercier, Felcolus, Fatsani and Monroe. B-squad will be led by T'Rea, and consists of Lacour, Noran, Kur'don, Steels and our resident krogan. C-squad will be led by Mendez, and consists of Briggs, Sallae, Korum and Malit."
Jason sighs when he realizes he won't be with Ilyna and Tarlon, but gives the salarian's shoulder a squeeze. "You're gonna be fine, Tarlon. Mendez is a good man. He won't let anything happen to you guys." he assures.
Leah glances back and forth between Ilyna and Victoria. "You guys take care out there, okay? Remember... We have a celebration to throw when we get back." She gives a short smile, but it quickly fades away. (Jason_Wolfe)
Ilyna nods, but the krogan catches her off guard and she walks a few steps forward before regaining balance. She pats Leah on her shoulder. "We will," she says. "And you're coming back with us."
Steve struts over to Mendez' side and gives him a nudge. "You and me, big guy." he announces, giving a glance back towards the salarian and offering a wink.
Vasquez looks around as they start sorting into their respective teams. "A and B will be riding in the APC. C will be taking the truck."
Tarlon looks at the truck with some degree of apprehension. "Unarmoured vehicle? Tch, what have I ever done to you, Linda?"
Steve seems to actually agree with the salarian. He gives a stern nod. "If we're headin' into potential danger, is it a good idea for us to be on some civvy vehicle?"
Vasquez lets out a grunt. "There's not enough room for everyone in the APC. Don't worry, we'll be going first. The goal is to have you out of the vehicle before combat starts."
Goals are nice and all, especially when you're sittin' in an armored transport. We get caught off-guard and it's our asses hangin' out.
Captain Kleiner enters the cargo hold with Alessa joining him soon after. "Getting ready to head out, eh?"
Steve furrows his brow and stares hard at Bayani. "You ever seen these things we're up against, buddy? 'Cause I have. When they're infectin' you with God-knows-what, I'll remember how I 'worried too much' right before I put a round between yer eyes."
Steve looks as though he's about to say something, but instead bites his lower lip and nods a couple times. "Keep on smilin'." he comments, "Keeeeeeeeep on smilin'."
Vasquez nods at the captain. "You know what we talked about. You just wait here until we return. Care to get the door for us?"
The side of the cargo hold suddenly starts to open up, slowly and with a loud groaning sound. It opens to reveal heavy rainfall outside - the ship sits on a landing pad, not in a hangar. A ramp unfolds one the hatch is open. Down the slop sit several buildings on the left, and a mass of prefab shelters to the right. Straight ahead some distance away are two massive, round buildings, one of them with what appears to be a gigantic
lightning rod, which is constantly impacted by strikes from the dark gray sky above - illuminating the small town.
Jason turns to Tarlon and lowers his voice as he watches the others. "You be safe out there, Tarlon. And-..." he sighs, almost feeling guilty for even thinking it, "...If something goes wrong? Find a way to get in touch with me. Comms. Signal flare. Fuck, I don't care, climb a tree and shout really loud. I'll find you. I promise."
Tarlon grins and gives Jason a bro-hug and makes sure to speak quietly when he replies. "Likewise, Jason. Likewise. Would not do to lose you so shortly before nuptials, yes?"
Vasquez speaks up to make sure she is heard over the constant lightning strikes. "Alright, Wolfe, I want you to take your team and ask around for information at the inn!" She gestures at the one building with a colorful holographic sign that states: 'New Longhai's best (and only) bar & lodging!'. "I'm going to have a word with the town officials. B and C squad get in the vehicles and bring them around to the edge of the town -
Good, good. Then we have an understanding, yes? Shall have to come back from this mission. Far too much work still to do for us to laze about being dead.
Jason gives a chuckle and a nod. He turns away from Tarlon and takes a few steps towards Vasquez. "Alright!" he shouts, "Alpha squad, on me!"
Leah pulls her helmet up and slides it on. A deep breath escapes her as she locks it in place. She follows behind Jason at a distance. (Jason_Wolfe)
Mendez makes his way over towards the yellow-wheeled truck, standing beside it. "You heard her, Charlie! Mount up." (Jason_Wolfe)
Vasquez sticks around to make sure everyone understood the instructions before heading off on foot down the street.
Jasper follows Jattic over to the APC and gives him a few parting words before heading over to the yellow-wheeled truck and climbing in. (Jason_Wolfe)
Ilyna shakes her head, cheeks getting a little bit purple. "Let's... be professional, okay?" she says. She steps into the APC.
Jattic gives a throaty laugh as he listens to Garr and Ilyna and proceeds to the front of the APC, settling into the driver's seat. "Can't be too hard...." he grunts to himself. (Jason_Wolfe)
Jason secures his helmet in place as he exits the ship, into the pouring rain. "Alright!" he calls out, attempting to be heard over the rain, "These people may not have any idea what's going on! Let's try not to wear out our welcome before we've even had a chance to take care of the job."
Captain Kleiner leaves the ship and heads over to a small booth at the edge of the landing platform, presumably to hanlde the administration of the landing.
Alessa stands in the cargo hold, looking as the mecenaries file into their vehicles - or out into the rain, with interest.
Steve hops into the back of the truck, still looking pretty peeved over being shunned out of the APC.
Tarlon takes a seat, possibly a little greener in the face than usual. It's hard to tell on someone with green skin.
The street is empty except for a lone patron that just stumbled out of the inn, heading towards the prefab shelters with an uneven walk.
Jattic begins working at the controls once everyone is on-board. "Here we go." he calls out as the APC roars to life. (Jason_Wolfe)
Jasper follows suit, starting up the truck and leaning a head out the window to make sure everyone is on. (Jason_Wolfe)
Victoria looks at Ilyna.''Yes, but to be fair just had to make sure the turian was dead. Could not have him creep up on me.''
Jattic takes the APC down the ramp. It's a pretty uneven ride as he attempts to get accustomed to driving it. (Jason_Wolfe)
Jasper follows right behind Jattic, allowing him a wide berth as he's stopping and going erratically. (Jason_Wolfe)
