#Miner'sRespite – April 9, 2015
Va'ynna is seated in a booth near the bar, watching over the exit. There's a good chance she has gotten the news that the Redrock crew has returned. She's in her dark-green dress.
Jason enters the Respite in a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt with a brown jacket over it. The jacket is just draped over his right shoulder where his arm once was, obscuring the damage. Numerous wounds in varying states of healing dot the left side of his face. He slowly starts towards the front of the bar with his head lowered. A slight limp is noticeable in his walk.
Va'ynna gets to her feet immediately, and starts walking towards Jason. Her excitement turns to worry once she gets a better look of him. "Jason?"
Jason raises his gaze to meet the asari's. A slight smirk starts at his lips, but it's plain as day that something's wrong. "Hey you." he says, sounding quite tired as he approaches Va'ynna, "Been keeping the town safe while I was gone?" He reaches across with his left hand and pulls his jacket up further, perhaps in an attempt at concealing the damage he's suffered.
Va'ynna stops and lifts her arms slightly for a hug, but hesitates and decides against it. "Something is wrong," she murmurs with a titled head. "What... happened?"
Jason takes another step towards the asari and leans in for a hug regardless, wrapping his left arm over her shoulder and giving her a slight pat on the back. "Nothing. Just-... Things didn't go as planned."
Va'ynna wraps her arms around him in turn, squeezing. She rests her head on his right shoulder. "I was so worried," she sobs. "When I... heard nothing... and you were gone for... days."
Renala steps through the door behind the bar and walks up to the bar-counter, looking at Jason, but doesn't call his name.
Aylena does notice Jason, but is currently busy taking orders from another patron further down the bar.
Jason winces a bit as Va'ynna's head makes contact with his shoulder, but he gives a weak chuckle. "I'm fine, V." he says. "At least, I will be... Which is more than some of my team can say." he sighs. Va'ynna might notice that something doesn't quite feel right on his right side.
Va'ynna doesn't let go of the hug. Her speech and breathing is a bit shaky, and tears are probably involved although Jason would be able to see. "And... how... hurt are you?"
Jason loosens his hug a bit and shakes his head. "No. They're-... She's gone." he says, choking up slightly as he speaks, "I couldn't do anything to help her. She's just... gone."
Jason just sort of allows his arm to limply dangle over her shoulder. "Vasquez... Linda. She... I don't know what happened. But she's gone." he says. He pulls his arm back and rubs at his eyes, "Everything went wrong. I don't know where she is..."
Jason nods slowly and sniffs. "I don't even know what to do right now, V. I let them all down. People died... It all went so wrong..."
Jason nods slowly. "Vaden... Fatsani... Bayani..." he slowly lists off names, pausing slightly between each one, "Nearly the entire crew of the ship we chartered. A settlement of innocent people. For all I know, Vasquez is dead, too..." he trails off. "I fucked up. I should've known something was wrong..." he mutters mostly to himself, aware that Va'ynna probably doesn't even understand
Va'ynna tries to be comforting, but she doesn't sound all that convincing. She is still crying despite her best effort to contain it.
Jason forces a smile and gives Va'ynna a squeeze. "Somehow I doubt that... But thanks for saying it."
Va'ynna finally lets go of the hug and wipes under her eyes with the back of her index finger. "I'm sorry, I didn't meant to... cry on you," she says. "I... I'm glad to have you back, I didn't know if you were....- " A deep breath. "Sorry."
Jason grips Va'ynna's shoulder and gives it a squeeze before wiping at his own eyes. "No... I'm not that lucky." he says, forcing a bit of a chuckle, "Unfortunately, not all of me came back this time..." He reaches over and rubs at his shoulder with his remaining hand and pulls his jacket back, revealing an empty, hanging sleeve. "Not even sure how I'm going to afford a replacement
Va'ynna raises her brows. "I... I... wish I could help," she begins, "but... I don't have that... much credits."
Jason shakes his head a few times. "No... I couldn't take it even if you did. I'll be fine. Really. The credits are there, it's just going to put a big dent in the company. With so many wounded... I'm worried we won't be able to spring back from this hit." he sighs, "I'll just-... do what I can, I guess..."
Jason sighs and nods. "I'm not going to let it fall apart without a fight." he says, "I'm sorry... Has everything been alright around here?"
It has. There was... one day when things got a little... bad, though. You should ask Renala about that, because... I, um, I was hiding.
Jason smirks and nods. "I'll do that." he says, "Then I suppose I should get some rest. Mendez is stopping in later to drop my gear off. Hard to carry anything around with-..." he pauses and glances at his right shoulder.
Va'ynna nods. "I'll see you," she says, a smile finaly creeping up. "Again, it's... good to have you back."
Jason takes a deep breath and glances around the bar, nodding to himself. "All things considered... It's good to be back." he says before making his way up towards the bar. He reaches over and pulls his jacket back up over his shoulder.
Pip walks into the Respite, pulling up her collar slightly higher. She looks at the armless man, seemingly analysing him as she makes her way over to the bar. She looks away as she hops onto a stool, placing her elbows on the counter.
Va'ynna follows up to the bar, a bit awkward now that they've said their goodbyes, and proceeds through to get back to work. She was a little embarrased for crying in the middle of the bar.
Jason leans against the counter as he reaches it and looks across at Renala. "Sorry about not responding to your message..." he starts with, "We had a lot going on. From the look of things, you were able to handle everything here while we were gone without too much trouble though...?"
Renala walks over to Jason as she sees him approach. "I got a little free help when things got a bit hot in here," she says. "The job was almost just sitting on my ass watching vid feeds the rest of the time, though."
Pip subtly listens in on the conversation, making herself look busy as she starts browsing on the extranet.
Aylena walks over to Pip. "Here for another glass of that expensive whiskey?" she asks with a soft chuckle, not sounding too serious.
Jason furrows his brow and stares across at the asari for a few moments. "Yeah? Are you calling the shots here?" he says, the frustration easily noticeable in his voice, "Am I reporting to you? I'm sorry, I thought you worked for me. I'll make sure and fill you in on every moment-to-moment detail on how I run my company."
Pip blinks and looks up, smiling slightly. "Sure, I'll take ten bottles," she chuckles. "Nah, I'll a cheaper shot this time, if you don't mind."
Renala holds up a hand. "Hey, calm the fuck down," she says, not really deterred. "I'm happy as long as my payment keeps rolling in. It's that I'm the only one that was left behind on this rock that I know off, and I got questions about your whereabouts daily."
Jason closes his eyes and lets out a deep breath. "You chose to stay behind." he mutters as he reaches up to rub his forehead. He sighs loudly and shakes his head, "I'm sorry, Renala... A lot happened, okay? I'm just not in the mood to be lectured right now. Please."
Renala trails off, allowing a bit of a smirk. "Anyway, good to have you bunch back home," she continues. "Everyone made it back, I hope?"
Aylena nods. "Of course I don't," she says, moving over to find a bottle and returns with it. "How are you doing?" She picks out a small glass and pours it, and places it infront of Pip.
Pip sips at the glass as she fishes around in her pocket for a few credit chits. "Fine, fine," she says. "Just finished moving my crap to my place."
Jason slowly shakes his head. "We lost a few of the new recruits. Lost Vaden. Lost-..." he pauses, lowering his gaze to the counter, "...Vasquez. Someone else was on that planet and got ahold of her. We came back with a lot of wounded, too... I don't really want to go into details right now, Renala..."
Renala swallows, looking a bit taken aback for a moment. "Vaden? Oh... fuck...," she says. "Well, I'm not going to repeat what I thought about this job,"
Aylena chuckles softly. "What became of your mech?" she ssks. "Sorry about that, by the way. It made my customers nervous."
Jason mutters a bit before nodding. "Briggs is fine. Somehow. Came out of it pretty much untouched. We all went our separate ways after arriving back at the spaceport. I'm guessing he'll be around sooner or later to take his job back."
Watty is in the garage now. And I don't blame them, honestly. Though he wouldn't hurt anyone without reason.
Aylena takes the credits and returns the remainder after clearing her tab. "It doesn't help that this system isn't all that far away from Geth space,"
Renala nods. "I'll get my stuff out of the office, then," she says. "Is there anyone else I can step in for? Since you mention we have injured."
Aylena shrugs. "They both can do damage, with no regard for their own life," she says. "They're similar enough where it matters."
Pip bites down a retort, instead sipping at her drink. She lowers her voice and leans in. "What's with handy over there?" She asks, flicking her head towards Jason.
Jason bites his lower lip for a few moments. "Leah is in pretty bad shape. Her, Jattic and Mendez run revolving shifts at Hnipinn and the dam. If you could check in with Jattic and Mendez and maybe fill in a few gaps, it would be a huge help. I'm sure they'd appreciate it, too."
Renala nods, again. "I'll check with Mendez, then," she says. "So, any changes in managment I should know about. For while the boss is off making assholes regret a couple life decisions?"
Aylena glances over at Jason, keeping her voice low, as well. "I don't really know," she says. "You can go ask him yourself." And with that, another patron further down the bar signals for her attention and Aylena complies.
Jason smirks at Renala's comment and gives a nod. "Ilyna is going to be helping me with all the day-to-day duties. Other than that, we're just in recovery mode. Our account is pretty much empty and a whole lot of people need medical attention, myself included. I'm not sure if we even have the manpower to take on any big jobs until that's dealt with."
Renala nods, and she raises her brows for a moment. "Oh, have you seen Victoria since she came back?" she says. "I got a message for her."
Jason shakes his head. "Not since the spaceport. We literally just got back, Renala. Send a message her way, I'm sure she'll sprout up. After what we've been through, she probably just needs to unwind."
Renala chuckles. "I'm sure she'll forgive my interruption," she says. "Well, I'm not going to keep you anymore." She takes a step back from the counter.
Jason offers Renala a quick smile before turning away from the counter and slowly heading towards the stairs.
Pip hurms to herself quietly, running a finger around the rim of her glass. She inputs something into her omni-tool as she finishes off the rest of her drink.
