#Deck4 – April 1, 2016
Jasper reaches for whatever handhold he can reach and sloooooowly climbs out, lowering himself to the ground with a grunt. "Thank ya, thank ya." he says, giving a couple short bows before rejoining at Nathan's side.
Nalota looks a little anxious now that it might be her turn to steer that heavy vehicle, not entirely managing to hide it.
Nathan looks over to Nalota and gives her a reassuring smile. "You got this," he says. "If us two idiots can handle it, you can."
Harmonia remains mildly annoyed at Jasper and Nathan. She looks at Nalota and gestures towards the mech. "Alright, go ahead."
Jasper nods in turn. "Easy as drivin' a car. Cept the car has two legs and thrusters." he says, attempting to sound reassuring, "Ain't no problem. Handle yer' business."
Nalota gives them a tiny smile before nodding at Harmonia, walking over the mech. She starts climbing into the mech, making careful movements in order to not bump into any controls by accident.
Harmonia watches Nalota's slow ascent into the Triton's cabin. "Yeah, okay. Any time now. If any of the controls are giving you pause, ask before trying them please."
Jasper points at the controls in front of her, an arbitrary action from his vantage point. "That one right there is to get 'er movin'. Don't go too hard on it, or else ya might just topple right over."
Nalota looks over the controls, seeing if any of them are labeled or have any other indication of their purpose.
The controls are fairly standard - for a military mech. Nalota would have been given some training with diving exoskeletons by the Syranis Foundation in preparation of the expedition, but likely nothing of this heavy-duty make. The buttons and dials are all unmarked, although did mention what a lot of them do earlier in the instruction. The arm and leg grips seem self-explanatory, corresponding directly to the pilot's limbs.
Nalota gets settled properly into the mech and starts moving the leg controls, again being careful while she gets acquinted with the sensitivity of those controls.
Jasper takes a couple of large steps back as he gives Nathan a quick shrug. "Jus' bein' safe is all."
Harmonia remains where she is, arms folded. "That's it. Try walking a couple of steps and making a turn."
Nalota relaxes somewhat when the first step succeeds and she follows up with another, which is less slow than the first. The third step is very smooth, and so is the fourth. A grin is forming on the asari's face as she gets giddy with ecitement, not paying attention to the two humans taking a step back.
Harmonia nods a few times. "Alright, alright, don't get cocky. Let's see if you can handle the arms. Try and put the crate back where it belongs."
Nalota starts moving the mech's arms towards the crate attached to its back, but stops just two seconds into it. Her grin fades while she looks for any sort of feed to give her an indication of where the hands are compared to the crate.
There is a series of complicated readouts that indicate where each part of the mech and its surroundings are located compared to each other.
Nalota moves the arms to the right positions under the crate and presses the right trigger to tighten the grip. She nudges the arms a bit closer to the crates just to be safe. She swallows hard before toggling to dial for the mass effect field, but gives a weak sigh when the crate doesn't fall to the ground.
begins lifting the crate over the head, slowly but surely, and the grip does seem to be holding it up rather well.
Jasper holds his breath for a moment as the crate makes its round towards the front of the mech. "Easy does it, easy does it..." he says softly, silently cheering the asari on.
Harmonia sighs. "Careful is good, but you're moving at a snail's pace. Pick up the speed. Drop it on top of the others."
Jasper frowns at Harmonia. "Give 'er a break, Cap'n Sassypants." He glances back to the mech, "Yer' doin' fine! Keep it up!"
Nalota frowns and increases the pace once it's above the head and within her field of vision. "Let me get used to it first lest I might tear a hole in the hull." She manages to move it over the other crates, and ontop of the other with a loud sound as it impacts harder than it should have. "There," she says.
Jasper makes a show of raising his hands and giving a short clap for Nalota after Harmonia puts in her 2 cents.
Nalota pushes the wrong part of the grip control for a moment, making it grip the crate a little harder, but quickly releases it completely once she realizes. "I know," she says. "I never claimed to have experience piloting this thing."
Harmonia lets out an annoyed grunt. "Yeah, well, your people seemed to think you were person for the job, so... best learn fast. You can practice more tomorrow."
