#Deck4 – April 5, 2016
Spencer is busy checking up on all the various crates of cargo containing expedition equipment and supplies, making sure everything is where it should be.
Harmonia is standing in the middle of the cargo hold, seeming a little stressed as her gaze goes between reading on her datapad and looking around as the others work.
There is a familiar shudder throughout the Saint Lucia as the ship drops out of FTL, the colorful shimmer of distorted spacetime seen outside the windows giving way to the infinite vastness of space on the starboard side, and a massive blue and violet gas giant on the port side. Victoria's voice comes in over the speakers. "We have now arrived at UNC-49-256D-958. The ship will now enter orbit around the target satellite and begin orbital
scans. Expedition personnel are to prepare themselves for descent. Security force personnel may now access the shipboard armory. Please remember all surface personnel must wear sealed environment suits due to hostile planetary atmosphere."
The elevator eventually comes to a halt on Deck 4, opening up to the cargo hold, and the people in it preparing. Several members of the research team are standing by an open crate, busy putting on their environment suits. The suits are loose-fitting, meant to fit as many people as possible. They're orange, with multiple protective layers that shield from various environmental hazards - temperature, toxins, acid, radiation. Boots, kneepads
and a shoulder harness are hard pieces while the rest is soft. The helmets have domed visors, but are not immobile. Built to fit human and near-human species, and with air filters, an oxygen tank as well as several belt canisters of omni- and medigel.
Nalota leaves the elevator, and makes her way towards the rest of the research team. She looks around for a suit while approeaching them.
Jasper steps off the elevator and follows behind Nalota. As they near the others, he tries to get someone's attention. "Uhh.... Was told ta' come down here fer' my suit...?" he says, sounding somewhat unsure whether he's in the right place.
Linora waves Nalota over. She is already wearing her suits, helmet cradled under her left arm. "There you are, I was wondering. Take a suit from the crate and start putting it on." When Jasper speaks up she nods and points at the crate. "You as well. Mr...?"
Jasper extends a hand towards the asari. "Sullivan. You can jus' call me Jasper, though." he says with a smile, "I'm with Redrock."
Linora shakes Jasper's hand with a nod. "Professor T'Ris. I take it you are one of our mech pilots?"
Nalota gives the matron a smile before taking one of the suits out of the crate. She starts to put it on.
Linora seems mildly amused by Jasper's enthusiasm, chuckling faintly as she turns back to Plask, discussing something about a drone search pattern with them.
Athassa joins Jasper and Nalota by the suits, greeting Linora and starting to put hers on as well, eyeing it skeptically before doing so.
Jasper rubs his hands together and approaches the crate. "So jus' go 'head an' toss one on?" he asks, giving a glance back at Linora.
Jasper removes one of the suits from the crate and looks it over as he tries to figure out how to get it on. He gets a grasp on things relatively quickly- he is a genius, after all- and begins suiting up.
Orbital scans are currently underway. Descent will commence when a suitable landing site has been located.
Yan Sun is the last one out of the elevator on Deck 4, looking around before joining the others. She grabs a suit as she overhears Jasper's conversation with Linora, and starts to put it on. After fitting the chest harness she lets out a grunt, moving her arms around. "The suit is a bit... unwieldy." she complains.
Nalota is almost done putting on the suit, the helmet being the only missing piece. "It's a little big, yeah," she agrees with Yan, but her tone is neutral on the matter.
Jasper stands in place once he has the suit on, sans helmet, and slightly crouches, barely bending his knees. Then stands back up. Then crouches. Then stands back up. "It ain't the mos' comfy thing, that's fer' sure." he agrees, lowering into another crouch.
Leonard nods in agreement, having finally finished putting on his suit. "Small price to pay for getting to explore a brand new world though! Just think of the stories the ice will be able to tell us. Not to mention the crust, if we can reach it."
Athassa slips into her environment suit with relative ease, although she still seems a bit skeptical. "Hmh... I prefer the models we used in '82. I suppose a generic fit is cheaper though."
Linora raises an eyebrow at Athassa. "I am sure it will be fine. The mobility is certainly sufficent for the work we are doing, and if we decide to set up an outpost we will ship in more advanced gear."
Plask lets out a grunt. "At least asari get suits!" he says. They are wearing a thick, padded jumpsuit, and a breather, currently detached from their mouth, but no sealed environment suit. "None fit Plask!". Their voice is soft for a vorcha, and it is clear that they're on good terms with the asari, the tone light.
Jasper is still continuing his strange crouches to work in the suit. "Eh, could be worse." he says as he glances at Plask, "You got it rough, lil' buddy."
It doesn't bother me. I'm going in the mech anyway, which is going to lumber around like a drunk krogan anyway.
Nalota 's tone is light, since she has gotten sufficiently good at using the mechs after the last few days' practice.
Yan Sun eyes the vorcha cautiously, keeping a bit of distance. She meets Plask's gaze and then looks around at the others. "Sooo... for those that I haven't had a chance to talk to, I'm Yan Sun." she says with a small wave. "I'll be handling some of the high-tech equipment."
Jasper glances over at Linora. "So, what is our part gon' be, anyway? We jus' settin' up a basecamp?"
Linora looks to Jasper. "That is one of our goals, yes. We need to find a good site for drilling where we can set up a camp. Unfortunately 'good drill site' is very much incompatible with 'good landing site', so we will have to travel some distance away from the ship. Harmonia will be explaining more soon."
