#FreedomFalls – May 1, 2016
It is a cloudy late morning with little going on, a mere hour after they had their breakfast. The living room of Ilyna's apartment is as it's always been, and Ehanis would have put something appropriate for a child up on the screen or otherwise helped Li (if possible) with what she wants to do.
Ehanis is currently wiping the kitchen counter, having only started tidying up after breakfast a few minutes ago. She still has an unsteady walk, but it's not as bad as when she arrived on the planet. The asari is dressed in white shirt and plain gray pants.
Li is lying down in the couch, watching an old turian children's cartoon - it is of the preachy variety, as most of them are. She ate a rather small breakfast, and seems in a bit of a poor mood, a disinterested look on her face as she stares at the screen. Her black hair has grown enough that her bangs are starting to cover her eyes, and as they fall in the way of her vision she shoots them a tiny glare, trying to blow the hair
Ehanis hangs up the cloth and brushes the crumbs off the breadboard into the sink. She then turns around and looks over at the couch. "What do you want to do today, Li?" she says. "It doesn't look like it's going to rain, so we could go for a walk downtown."
Ehanis frowns and walks over to the left side of the couch. "What did you say?" she asks. "I didn't hear it."
Ehanis glances at the window. "It's probably nothing some fresh air can't-...", she is interrupted by her omni-tool making repeated notifications from over at the dining table. It's projection comes to life a second later saying that there's an incoming call. There is a profile picture of Ilyna on the notification, so there's no need to know how to read to know what it could be. "Finally," she mutters as a biotic shimmer surrounds her hand.
Li sits up in an instant when she hears the omni-tool, turning her head in search for the source of the sound. Her face lights up when she notices the projection of Ilyna.
Ehanis drops into the couch beside Li before pulling the omni-tool over quite quickly, and she catches it easily. She taps on the omni-tool a few times, and the noise finally stops, and is replaced by a faint static. "Ilyna?"
Ilyna takes a few seconds to respond. "Hello," she says, and there's a hint of a smile to her voice. "Are you both there?"
Ilyna chuckles. "I am so glad to hear your voice, sweetie," she says, her voice heavy with emotions. "I have missed you.... You can't believe how much I have."
Li looks at the omni-tool as if hoping that video might appear, and seems a little disappointed when it doesn't. "I missed you too..."
Ehanis almost manages to stifles a giggle, but she doesn't say anything. Instead, she picks up the remote and lowers the audio volume on the monitor.
Ilyna sighs. "Why were you scared, then?" she asks. "Did you see something on the screen that you shouldn't have?"
Ilyna takes a moment to respond. "We-.... Were you scared that we wouldn't come back?" she then guesses.
Li glances at Ehanis and then back to the omni-tool, her frown deepening. "Oh..." she says. "Yes..."
Ilyna sighs. "I... Of course, I should have known that," she says. "You don't need to worry anymore, then. It's less than a day's journey left after the ship is done discharging."
Ilyna may have nodded. "Yes," she says. "I will send a message when we're about to land so you and Ehanis can come pick me up at the spaceport."
Unless it's the middle of the night, of course. Then I might come home and instead meet at home you in the morning. How does that sound?
Ehanis shrugs. "Send me a message anyway," she says. "Can't have sleep getting in the way of your heartwarming reunion now can we?"
Ilyna chuckles. "Fine, I'll consider it," she says before taking a deep breath. "I... promise I won't do this again. Even if.... No, I don't want to leave you like this again."
Ilyna waits another few seconds for an answer, the compression making the low answer difficult to discern. "Hm?" she asks.
Ilyna could be nodding. "I promise," she says. "The next time I leave this planet... if I do, it'll be with you."
Ilyna chuckles. "I know I'm making too many promises right now," she says, "but we're going to spend more time together from now on. They owe me time off for that... a lot of it."
I can't see you, you know. I wish I could, but the ship VI stopped me when I tried to start a video call.
There's.... We have a slow extranet connection, and the VI denies that to keep one person from using too much. If... someone else video called, I may not have been able to talk with you.
Ehanis smiles. "Don't worry about the technical nonsense," she says. "Video calls don't work in deep space, because the VI says so. You know what a VI is, right? Like that weirdo in the lobby at work?"
Li tilts her head as she considers the question. "He's nice... and cool! He has a sword! He told me about knights."
Another voice can be heard in the background of the call. Ilyna's omni-tool doesn't pick it up well enough for it to be audible on the other end.
Li furrows her eyebrows again. "I told him you take care of me... and you're nice... and I miss you...". Ehanis can see her gaze falling, a hint of sandness in her voice.
Ilyna sighs. "I miss you too, and I can't wait to come home," she says. "The ship is moving, which means we can't talk any longer. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" (Ehanis_Tioran)
Ilyna chuckles. "I won't," she says. "I'll see you," she repeats before the call ends. (Ehanis_Tioran)
Ehanis winds an arm over her shoulder, and pulls her closer. "Let's go for a walk," she says. "'Lyna is coming home tomorrow, so we've got nothing to worry about." (Ehanis_Tioran)
Li fidgets a bit on being pulled closer to Ehanis, but nods. "Okay..." she says, without much enthusiasm. (Tyranniac)
The elevator doors eventually open to Deck 4, where the unloading process for Redrock and Syranis' cargo, overseen by Professor T'Ris, is already well underway.. Most of the research crew is assisting, although a few have already departed. Harmonia is standing in the cargo hold, talking to Vanessa. Vasquez is standing by the large cargo doors leading to the outside, looking in at the hangar with crossed arms and a tired stare. She's wearing her usual cargo (Tyranniac)
pants and tanktop, as well as a fairly heavy jacket. The quarian encampment outside the spaceport is quiet for once, most of its residents asleep, or at least retreated indoors due to the cold. A layer of frost covers the ground, and the cold air above is clear for the first time in quite a while, a breathtaking view of Aite's unusual nightsky visible. (Tyranniac)
Jessica places her chin atop Yan Sun's shoulder as she looks over at Nathan. "Not a chance." she says with a loud chuckle as the doors go sliding open. She removes her arm from around Yan Sun and gives her a slight nudge as she lifts her armor crate back up by the handle and exits the elevator. (Jason_Wolfe)
Ehanis approaches Vasquez, and Li is with her, of course. "Hey," she says with a nod. She's wearing a long white coat with black buttons. (Ilyna_T`Rea)
Jason gives a shake of his head, but a smirk is still present on his face, just happy to be home. As he steps out of the elevator and spots Vasquez, his smirk grows into a full-on smile. He starts across the cargo hold towards her. "You actually came..." he says, the surprise obvious in his voice. He stops a few paces from her and drops his bag and case at his side, extending his arms
Va'ynna has just exited the taxi that took her there, and she's walking towards the cargo door at a brisk pace. She's in her dark green dress. (Ilyna_T`Rea)
Jasper hobbles out behind Nathan. "An' I'm gon' have flashbacks everytime I take a dang shower!" he continues to complain, despite nobody paying him any attention. (Jason_Wolfe)
Yan Sun exits the elevator right after Jessica, a hint of a small grin on her face, her gaze on the floor at first, but her focus quickly turns to the open cargo ramp as she feels the cold air. She suddenly gains a small frown. "Oh. It's... winter here? Greeeat." (Tyranniac)
