#UnderTheSea – April 16, 2016
The school of glowing, shrimp-like creatures seem unaware of the presence of the quartet of sinking Tritons, and continue on their way. They soon disappear out of view above as the mechs continue to descend. In the near-complete darkness that has formed as the group turned off their lights other bioluminescent lifeforms can be seen, although the glimpses are brief as they continue downward.
Harmonia 's voice soon comes in over comms. "We're approaching the seabed. Slow your descent and brace for landfall." she says while making the prescribed adjustments to her own Triton.
Nathan hums contently, watching the LED shrimps swim away. "Part of me wishes I pursued that career in science," he mutters over comms before responding. "Copy that, prep for Tritonfall."
Nalota nods. "Engaging water jets," she says over comms, doing just that while paying attention to the change in depth readouts. "Will that be enough?" (Ilyna_T`Rea)
Jasper continues watching in the direction the shrimp disappeared off to. "Oh, right... Yeah." he says, his attention pulled back as he hears Harmonia's voice. Using his water jets, he begins slowing his descent. "How 'bout you, Ms. Kozma? Got yerself a name picked out fer these fellers?"
Harmonia responds to Nalota right away. "You're coming in a little fast, give it another boost, five seconds." After finishing with her own descent adjustments and turning her headlights back on she speaks again. "I leave naming to the people with doctorates, Mr. Sullivan." she says and then braces herself.
Jasper flips the lights back on and begins to brace for landing. "Aw, c'mon now. You tryin' a' tell me you ain't even thought 'bout it?"
Nalota nods, again, and runs the water jets as fast as possible for six seconds. "Doing that now," she says. The asari is staring at the depth readouts to get an idea of how fast she's falling.
There is a considerable impact in each of the Triton mechs as they make contact with the seabed, each of them landing on fairly flat ground except for Jasper, who hits a small incline. Sediment swirls into the water, murkying it, and the legs of the mechs sink about half a meter each into the seabed.
Jasper works to keep his mech upright on the incline, using his jets to lift his mech's legs from the sediment and slowly traverse the incline until he's over stable ground. "We all good...?" he asks as he slowly lowers back down.
Nathan thumps onto the seabed. He turns the mech around and switches back on his lights. He watches Jasper for a moment.
Nalota is taken by surprise as the mech hits the ground, and it takes a few seconds for her to calm down. "Think so," she then says while looking over the readouts. Her lights are still not switched on.
The cloud of murky water around their landing zone renders the mechs' lights all but useless, illuminating only swirling gray dust. The movement of the Tritons would be found to be sluggish, partly because of the high water pressure and partly because of the muddy seabed.
Jasper sighs loudly as he swivels back and forth. "Visibility ain't good down here. How ya want us ta handle this, Ms. Kozma?"
Harmonia takes a few steps to test the mech's footing, and turns around, not really able to see any of the others through the dust. She activates her comms. "Tennhausen, report. Have you landed?"
Nalota turns the light on, and turns the mech around looking for the others. She makes careful and slow steps.
Harmonia 's answer to Jasper's question comes in soon enough. "Move away from the landing site, visibility should be better further out. Just watch where you step."
Jasper nods silently to himself as he continues to study the viewing window. "Right, right... Which direction we goin' in? I ain't too fond a' the idea of separatin' from ya'll down here."
Nathan hurms. "Move away from the dust cloud, then use our lights to locate one another, perhaps?" He asks as she starts thumping in a random direction.
Harmonia chimes in again, while making her way out of the cloud. "Yes. Just focus on getting out first."
Jasper sighs softly, not feeling too comfortable at the idea of being separated in such a large environment with low visibility. He orients himself east and slowly begins trudging forward.
As they all start to emerge from the dust-cloud around the landing site they would find that the area they have landed on is a mixture of sedimentary bottom and towering rock formations and arches that restrict movement. Coral-like creatures that seem to thrive despite the lack of sunlight line the rocky walls. Jasper and Nalota can easily reach each other, but Nathan and Harmonia would find themselves relatively isolated.
Nathan hurms as he looks around, taking in the sights for a few mere moments. However, he focuses on searching for the others... to no avail, it seems. "Ten here, I can't see any of you."
Jasper continues to scan the area as he exits the dust cloud, but he halts his movement. "I got eyes on Nalota over here, but I ain't spottin' the rest a' ya. Maybe we oughta wait fer the dust ta settle?"
Harmonia speaks up. "No. We're heading in different directions regardless. I'll head west. Pick a direction and go for it. Record everything you encounter with the Tritons' sensors. If you find wildlife, or something else that might be of interest to the science team, out of place rocks and such, use one of the sample tubes on the back of the mech and scoop it up. Once we've all headed out a decent distance in our chosen
Harmonia responds right away. "Of course. This will take long enough as it is, if we didn't spread out to cover more ground things would slow to a crawl. The goal is to scan a decent chunk of seabed, can't do that if we're all scanning the same place.
Jasper gives another loud sigh, not liking the idea of splitting up but there's no point in questioning it. A job is a job. "Alright." he says, gazing out of his window towards Nalota, "Don'tcha go worryin' 'bout nothin'. Anything goes wrong, you jus' give us a holler and we'll get back to ya lickety split, alright?" he assures her, giving her a bright smile through his viewing window in hopes of alleviating some of her worry.
Nathan chuckles softly. "North," he replies. "Don't worry, Nalota. We're in Tritons! I'm pretty sure there isn't anything down here that'll find metal tasty," he teases. "I'll do my best to keep in touch, Kozma. I'll report if I find anything worth reporting."
