#Deck2 – April 25, 2016
Uvena approaches the crowded table, a plate with two pancakes in hand. She was late to the plate for the first round, and had a quick bathroom break during her wait for round two. "Mind if I sit here?" she asks, but she doesn't await an answer before setting her plate and glass of juice down on the table.
Jason gives Uvena a wave, fork-impaled pancake in hand. "Hey Uvena." he offers, "I see you got yourself some of those pancakes. Better be quick about it if you plan on going back for more, or we might have to fight about it!" he jokes.
Linora smiles at Jason. "Excellent. I will be in touch when we have returned to Freedom Falls." Upon Uvena's arrival she looks up at the asari, nodding in greeting before turning her attention to her food.
Uvena sits down beside him. "Of course," she says with a chuckle, looking at Jason. "I may use stasis fields in order to safely extract the target package."
Nathan chuckles and looks across to Linora. "Hey, professor, I just wanted to thank you... for helping me out of that mech. Can't remember if I already said thanks, but... well, thanks... for a third time." He smiles sheepishly.
Linora turns to Nathan and chuckles lightly. "Of course. I am just glad everyone returned safely. It sounds like it was quite the experience. You must tell me about the creatures you encountered..."
Jason narrows his eyes on Uvena. "Well that's no fair! We don't all have magic tricks up our sleeves!" He leans forward over his plate, shoveling pancake bites into his mouth with renewed vigor.
Nalota shakes her head. "Mine had barely any damage," she says. "I was lucky to avoid them until I was ready to ascend, and theris took a lot of damage waiting for me."
Uvena narrows her eyes in turn. "Pancakes are worth not fighting fairly over, don't you agree?" she says before cutting off a piece and eating it. Her tone is light-hearted.
Nathan glances between the two, cocking an eyebrow. "So you two aren't going to let the cripple have the last pancakes? For shaaaaaammmme."
September nods a a couple of times as she eats her yoghurt. "Sounds like it was pretty tense! Must've been creepy knowing you'd be stuck at the bottom of the sea if anything broke or whatever."
Linora seems amused by the banter of the mercenaries, and decides to avoid interrupting them, eating her breakfast in silence.
Jason makes a show of opening and closing his metallic hands, as if they were pinchers. "Grip of a god right here."
Jason frowns as he realizes he doesn't have much of a counter for asari space wizardry. "I'll-... uhh................. Let's not forget who signs your paychecks!" He glances over at Nathan with a lopsided smirk. "Check. Mate."
Nathan clucks his tongue. "Pancakes or credits? Hurrrmm..." He mockingly ponders the thought. "Well, plenty of other work for us two around Aite." He cocks his head and smirks.
Nalota sighs. "It was terrifying," she says. "Could we please not talk about it any more?" She takes a large bite off her sandwich.
Uvena tilts her head. "Maybe I'll share with T'Rea, then," she says. "So we at least have some support up the chain."
September frowns. "Uh... yeah, okay. I was just curious! You got to go do all this exciting stuff while the rest of us has been stuck on the ship doing nothing for days. Boooring..."
Jason points at Nathan and gives a smug nod. "I'll remember that. You just keep this moment in mind. The moment that eventually became your undoing." He gives another nod and he drags his finger across to point at Uvena, "The both of you!" He gives an exaggerated chuckle, "As if Ilyna would side with either of you over me! HAH! We're practically family!"
Nathan snorts, chuckling quite merrily at Jason's antics. "You're nuts, Jason," he says with a grin.
Nalota nods. "I was sitting around being useless for most of that," she says. "So I know how that feels."
Jason gives Nathan a wink as he polishes off the last bite of his pancakes. "Maybe." he says as he stands from his seat, tray in hand as he glances down at Uvena's plate, "...But I'll be nuts with a big-ass second helping of pancakes." He wiggles his eyebrows at Uvena in a taunt as he sets off for towards the counter, a big syrupy stain on the neck of his white shirt.
Nathan smirks and pushes his plate away. He looks to Uvena and flicks his head towards Jason. "Go on~. Stasis him~."
September is just about done with her yoghurt, and looking rather bored. "Uh-huh... later." she says before standing up and bringing her tray over to the counter.
Uvena chuckles. "Weirdo," she mutters once he's almost out of earshot. She cuts another piece off one of the two pancakes on her plate and eats it.
September returns Nathan's wave with a smile when she notices him, and goes off to place her counter. She then gets a cup of coffee and walks over to the table where the others are, sitting down on the short side nearest to Nathan. "Hi! What are we talking about?" she says with a smile while looking around at the others.
Nathan points to the nearby pancakes. "These sweet slices of heaven and who should get the last batch."
Jason begins slopping a large stack of pancakes onto his plate, crowding the pancake-zone so nobody else can move in and get any.
Tarkus walks out of the bathroom after washing his hands of course! He begins to walk into the mess to get himself a bite to eat.
Jason gives a nod to Tarkus as he arrives at the counter. "Morning, sunshine." he greets, "Don't wanna be late for your daily helping of snotpaste. Does a body good."
Tarkus stares at Jason and just shakes his head "Hope you choke on your food." Being the only words he could say to Jason at the outrage of the ship only offering nutrient paste.
September eyes the pancakes. "Oh... yeah, I don't eat those. They're made with cloned eggs. According to Milgrom Life Weekly cloned products have dangerous side effects, like causing mutations!"
Jason gives a big smirk. "Eh, it'll be fine. A few more days and we'll be back in Freedom Falls. The days of snotpaste will become nothing more than a fading memory." He reaches out and pats Tarkus on the back, smudging a bit of syrup onto his undersuit without noticing.
Uvena nods. "Of course, it's... very dangerous," she says. "The security team is hard at work neutralizing the threat." She grins.
September sips her coffee with a frown. "It's a real issue you know!" she says before taking another sip. "Things here on the ship have been reeeally boring since we landed. Must have been fun to actually be doing something!"
Tarkus just sighs out loud at Jason "Of course you can say that. You don't need to eat paste." He grabs of tube of paste. "You humans with not catering for those who were here before you." He said in a mock offended tone.
Nathan shivers dramatically. "Fun isn't the word I'd use for it," he says, nodding to his arm and then tapping the cut across his forehead.
Jason slops a few more pancakes on his rapidly growing tower. "Hey, it had nothing to do with me. Take it up with the ship's staff." he says as he begins covering the tower in syrup, "No complaints on my end, though." he adds with a nod towards his tray of pancakes. "Delicious."
September 's eyes widen as she looks at Nathan's arm. "Oh, I'm so sorry! I didn't notice! How bad is it...?"
Uvena returns her attention to the biological threat on the plate before her, taking a large bite of it.
Nathan smiles reassuringly. "It's fine," he says. "Just broken. Angryyyyyy krogan sized vorcha. Bastard stabbed me in the armpit too," he says with a nod to his working arm. "Must've been the chieftain... so I shot him in the face." He grins.
Tarkus shakes his head again "Keep acting like that, and you would be eating those pancakes off the floor." He states to the human.
Jason raises an eyebrow. "Hey, I'm just saying!" he exclaims as he finishes topping his plate off. He turns in place, putting his back to the counter as he faces Tarkus. "So... We haven't had much of a chance to talk since this trip began. How are you holding up?" he asks, his attention briefly pulled away by the wonderful wafting odor of his tower of pancakes, "This job went well, all things
September nods, a fascinated look on her face. "Wow, that must have been horrifying! I didn't realize there were vorcha on the planet!"
Nathan grins. "Oh yeah, absolutely terrifying," he says. "But, we made it through. All things considered, a few flesh wounds is a small price to pay for getting everyone out of there." He nods to his arm again. "That'll fix up in no time. Armour and replacing a gun, however... less... fun." He groans and pinches the bridge of his nose.
Uvena frowns while listening to their conversation, but she doesn't add anything to it. Instead, she eats the last piece of the first pancake.
Tarkus gives a nod to Jason "Just waiting to get off this ship and get real food. Tired as well, so might sleep after this paste." He pauses for a moment "You?"
Jason gives a shrug, letting out a low sigh. "Just-... eager to get back to Aite, ya know?" He glances around, giving a quick nod, "Kind of funny. I used to spend months at a time on ships like this. Loved it. Felt like home. But now? It's just a job."
September reaches over to touch the cast on Nathan's arm carefully. "Looks like it really hurt though... I guess you mercenary types are used to stuff like that? Have to be tough, right?" she says while withdrawing her arm and sipping her coffee again.
Nathan doesn't move his arm as she reaches out to touch it. "Oh, it did. Fucker was stronnnnng," he admits. "Tough? Eh, more stubborn I'd say."
Artullin exits through the door and walks towards the counter, passing by the group chatting at the table and standing on the opposite side of Jason. "Good morning," he says politely.
"I think that is a sign that you are growing up Jason." He stops and looks at Artullin "Morning." He then looks back at Jason "Finally, you are starting to mature into an adult."
Jason nods along as Tarkus speaks, part of an entire pancake sticking out of his mouth. "Ya know what?" he says, his words muffles through the fluffy pancake filling his mouth, "You might be right." He raises a hand in greeting as Artullin approaches. "Morning." he says, causing some pancake to fall from his mouth, which he catches on his tray. Reflexes like a jaguar.
Artullin looks at Jason, blinking with a twitch of his mandibles. "Charming," he says with a gentle shake of his head. "But good catch," he admits as he reaches for some nutrient paste.
Uvena frowns. "Aren't you going to give me credit for giving you time to line up that shot?" she asks. She cuts a piece off the second pancake.
Jason finishes chewing and then swallows hard before turning to Artullin. "Hey, I just wanted to say you did well back there... I know things got a little-..." he pauses, reaching up to wipe some syrup from his lip as he holds the tray in one hand, "-...a little heated- a mix of stressful situations and adreneline- but you did your part, and I just-... You know. No hard feelings."
Artullin looks back to Jason. "Thank you, Wolfe. And yes, there are no hard feelings. I'm sorry for questioning you." He nods. "I'm glad that the mission turned out well... considering the developments that occurred."
September sips her coffee as she listens to Uvena and Nathan. "Ohhh... I see how it is! You saved him and he's taking all the credit, right?"
Jason gives a nod, pointing to Artullin with a rolled up pancake that he's about to shove in his mouth. "You and me both. Things took a turn for the worse real quick out there. Thankfully everybody made it back."
Nathan blinks and looks to September. "That is totally not what's happening here!" He replies curtly. "...Well, I wouldn't have gotten the opportunity to shoot it if Uvena didn't freeze the bastard with her space magic," he teases. He makes to gently nudge her in the side.
Artullin starts to eat the paste, in a similar fashion to the other turian. However the hell you do it. He nods to Jason. "It was lucky our message got through."
Maybe. Maybe not. I'm confident that my team would've came looking for us either way. Just might have taken a few more hours.
Jason gives Tarkus a wave. "Well, I hope they wouldn't wait a week to come looking." he says with a chuckle. "Trust me, I know my team." he adds with a nod, "They would've come."
Artullin nods his farewells to Tarkus before looking to Jason. "I believe you," he says simply. He looks to the nearby table, nodding to them. "Tennhausen got quite the beating, though." He says quietly.
Jason glances over to Nathan with a loud sigh. "Yeah... He sure did. But he seems to be alright. Nothing a little rest and time off won't fix. It's never fun suffering an injury like that..." he says, glancing down at his own arm, "...I know all too well about injuries..."
Artullin looks to Jason, glancing down to his arms. "I understand," he says quietly, not pressing the issue about his arms. He looks back to the room. "I'm not sure what to think of Yan Sun and Jessica," he admits. "They... seems shifty."
Uvena smiles. "I can't show much of it in a cafeteria, though," she says as she makes the half-eaten pancake infront of her hover a few inches over the plate.
Jason follows Artullin's gaze, just scanning the room as he shifts his tray of pancakes from one hand to the other. "I'm not too happy with how they handled the situation... But it's hard to deny that they probably pulled our asses out of a fire." He lets out another sigh and shakes his head, "These things are always hard to judge, you know? We're not the Alliance. Insubordination isn't a cut
and dry thing. Is it better to trust that the person beside you is going to listen to you unquestioningly? Or-..." he gains a sheepish look, lowering his gaze slightly and shrugging, "...or be an individual and possibly see options that weren't so clear to you? You and I were doing what we could, but they managed to- quite possibly- save all of us. How do you gauge something like that?"
Artullin nods slowly as Jason speaks, idly eating some more paste. "True enough," he admits. "Though, in my defense, I was working with a power console... there was not much more I can do with that," he argues lightly, showing a more jesting and relaxed side to his usual stoic self. "But they did help. I won't deny that."
Jason gives a slight chuckle. "I'm not blaming you. You did what you could. Sometimes, no matter how good you are, you just don't have the tools to get a job done. But Yan Sun did have the tools, and I stood between her and our safety... That was my mistake, and I'll own it. But she's not one of ours, so there's no mess to untangle there. With Jess, though?" he lets out a low groan, "That's
Nathan watches the display of biotics. He leans across slightly and... darts forwards to try and nom the pancake out of thin air.
September looks at the floating pancake with fascination, and almost reaches out to poke it, but withdraws her hand when Nathan takes a bite. "Wooow... that's-.. that's crazy." she says, subconciously scooting back a bit in her chair.
Jason gives a single nod. "Eh. I'll just make Linda handle it." he seems to decide with a shrug, "She's better at the whole-... you know.... doing stuff thing...."
Uvena lets go of the field once he bites over the pancake, and it fades almost immediately without affecting him. She scoffs. "Just because it hovers doesn't mean you can take it," she mutters, though a smile is still present.
Artullin hurms and steps away from the counter. "You just shoot things, right?" He says with a soft chuckle. "I'm going to the gym. I'll see you in a bit, Wolfe."
Jason gives a nod. "I just shoot things." he repeats. "Take it easy, Artullin." he says before starting back towards his seat.
Uvena smiles and glances at Nathan, possibly expecting him to answer her. She sighs and stands up. "I'll go check if there's more pancakes," she says. "Should I grab one for you while I'm there?"
Nathan looks to Uvena and nods. "Sure. I'll take another," he says before looking to September. "I... Guess we are, yeah." He still seems slightly confused by how it occurred.
Jason drops his tray back onto the table and takes a seat. "Oh-..." he says as he realizes September has joined them. "....Hey-.... you. How are you?"
September glances at Uvena after Nathan's confirmation, and then back to him. "Oooh... what's it like to be with an asari? I heard they do all sorts of freaky stuff with their mind." She turns briefly to Jason with a nod. "Hi! I'm good!"
Nathan shrinks back into his seat, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly. "It's... Something." His cheeks tint slightly.
Jason glances back and forth between Nathan and September. "Oookay. What did I step in on?" he asks, cocking an eyebrow. "Freaky mind stuff? We talking about asari-banging!?"
Nathan sinks lower into his seat, trying to disappear beneath the table. He mumbles unintelligibly, the translator only picking up bits and pieces.
September nods enthusiastically. "Yeah! Nathan was just going to, like, tell me about him and-... uh... what's her name?" she says with a glance back to the embarassed man.
Uvena returns to the table with that one pancake. "Yes?" she says before sitting down and putting the pancake on her plate.
Jason leans forward, resting his elbows against the table, and looks towards Nathan with a big, lopsided grin. "Oh, yeah!" he says, cheering September's curiosity on, "Tell us all about you and Uvena."
Uvena chuckles. "Is this going in the report?" she asks. She cuts a piece of the pancake, and eats it.
Jason tilts his head as he responds to Uvena. "Absolutely. We document all inter-employee bang-sessions. Just company policy is all." he deadpans.
September is, for once, content to listen in silence at the internal Redrock gossip, sipping her coffee.
Korio is on the floor performing push-ups, mid-set. He pumps out a few more after Artullin has entered before climbing up to his knees. "Ah, welcome. This room doesn't get much use at this time." he says, placing his hands on his knees.
Jason gives a shake of his head, letting out a chuckle. "Uh huh... Suuure. whateeeeever you say." he agrees sceptically, rolling up a pancake into a long tube. "You two aren't fooling anyone." he adds before shoving the entire pancake tube into his mouth, syrup dripping from the opposite end.
Artullin nods to Korio, heading over to the treadmill. "Good morning, Korio. I take it that's why you come here before breakfast?"
Korio gives a shake of his head. "Not particularly. The silence is an added bonus, but-..." he cocks his head, following Artullin's movements over to the treadmill, "...I suppose I'm just a creature of routine. I like to keep a schedule."
Uvena shrugs. "Because I'm not trying to fool anyone," she says before eating another large slice of pancake.
September giggles quietly and nods in agreement with Jason, seemingly over their previous interaction.
