#SaintLucia – March 28, 2016
The RSV Saint Lucia has just entered FTL, a small shudder signifying the transition. The all-clear has just been given for passengers to leave the passenger quarters, and most of the researchers have immediately made their way out, taking the elevator to Deck 3 to check on the lab. Nalota would have been told she is not needed right now, and will be called upon later.
Nathan has decided that now would be a good opportunity to work out in the hangar. He would've changed into a simply olive green vest top and tracksuit bottoms before heading down to the cargo bay. He's currently doing tricep-dips against a small cargo container.
Jessica is laying atop her bed with her omni-tool sitting on her chest as she browses through news stories.
Jason hops out of his bed as soon as the all-clear is given. "Victoria." he groans, stomping towards the door, "Where's our stuff?"
Korio makes his way out of the room as soon as he's able to and sets off to get a better look around the ship. "Victoria." he drawls as he approaches the lift, "May I request a map of the ship? It would be helpful to know the layout in case of danger."
(Passenger Quarters) All Redrock Agency cargo is located in the cargo bay on Deck 4, except weaponry, which has been moved to the armory, on Deck 3. Feel free to move personal items to the Passenger Quarter lockers.
Uvena disables her omni-tool once the ship entered FTL, having got a message out with mere seconds to spare. She is, of course, still sitting on her bed.
Jessica frowns as the jump to FTL cuts off her extranet connection. The holographic interface dissipates as she sets her head back on her pillow and tosses the omni-tool aside with a grunt.
Jason rolls his eyes. "All Redrock Agency cargo is located in the cargo bay on-..." he begins to mock, speaking in a monotone robotic voice, "...Deck 4, except wea shuuut up." He pauses near the door and gives a glance back to Ilyna. "I'm gonna go down and grab my personal items." he informs before exiting the room.
Nalota is keeping to herself, reading over the documents she's got for the expedition for what's probably the hundreth time. She is sitting in her bed with her knees to her chest to prop up her omni-tool arm.
Ilyna opens her eyes and turns her head towards Jason. "Could you grab my bag while you're there?" she asks, although it might be too late.
Yan Sun similarly has her extranet connection cut while sitting crosslegged on her bed, playing a game. She lets out an annoyed sigh at being interrupted near the end of the level. She looks around for a bit as the omni-tool hologram fades, and once again ends up turning her attention to Jessica, after checking beneath her bunk to see who the source of the snoring is. "Sooo... what do you merc types do in your downtime?"
The cafeteria is mostly empty, the ship having just entered FTL. A fair skinned woman with curly blonde hair tied back in a ponytail, wearing a cook's uniform, is seen finishing a conversation with a balding, pale man with an impressively fancy moustache. The man is wearing an ExoGeni science uniform. When the converastion is done the woman disappears into the kitchen while the man takes a seat, starting to flip through the pages of
Pablo returned to the cargo hold as soon as able, and is currently crouched down next to the laser drill, his omni-tool interfaced with its computer.
Jessica pulls her hands up behind her head and stares up at the ceiling. "Train to get better at killing shit and shooting stuff. Pretty much what you'd expect." she says dismissively.
Jason makes his way through the cafetaria without paying much attention to the others. Once he reaches the elevator he taps the call button and steps aside to await its arrival.
Spencer just recently stepped off the elevator to the cargo hold, and is now making the rounds, inspecting the various vehicles and crates to make sure everything is still secured properly. Once he reaches the crate Nathan is exercising against he chuckles. "How's it going there, Muscles?"
Nathan grunts as he dips to the floor before rising again. "Good," he says as he dips to the floor again. That seems to be the extent of discourse he's going to grant the man for the moment.
Uvena gets out of bed, and starts walking up along the room. She isn't paying attention ot the people she passes on the way.
Korio lifts his omni-tool from his jacket pocket and accepts the download. "Excellent, Victoria. Are there any areas off-limits to Redrock Agency that I should avoid?" he asks as he taps the lift button opposite of the one Jason is awaiting.
Yan Sun gains a slightly awkward look. "Uh, yeah... right. That makes sense..." She goes quiet, perhaps a bit put off, and starts to turn her attention elsewhere.
Spencer grunts in response. "Good. Yeah, that's good. You fighting folks gotta stay in shape, yeah? Be ready to kick some ass?" He makes a rallying movement with his fist.
Jessica continues staring upwards, a small smirk tugging at her lips as if she's pleased with this reaction. "What about you? You said you handle the tech here, right? That has to be boring as hell. How do you unwind from something like that?"
Nathan drops again, peering up at the man. "You know it," he agrees as he raises himself up. He pushes himself to his feet and cranes his neck from side to side, loud pops echoing through the cargo bay. "So, who're you then?" He asks.
Korio boards the elevator, his finger hovering over the third deck as Victoria chimes in. "That seems... odd to exclude the security team from monitoring the deck containing the weaponry. Are we at least permitted to roam the halls? I would like to get a feel for the ship in case something untoward were to take place. Knowing the battlefield is half of the fight, afterall."
Jason steps onto the lift as it arrives and pokes the button to the bottom deck. He steps back against the back wall of the lift.
Yan Sun 's gaze follows Uvena as she passes by along the bunks. "Well, I mean... I don't handle anything on the ship. I'm just tagging along to handle the research team's tech. Should be a fun trip though. I haven't really been out here in the frontier before. Looking forward to meeting everyone." She turns back to Jessica, her enthusiasm returning quickly.
Uvena exits the passenger room, and makes her way towards the cafeteria, her eyes scanning the room for an empty table by a window.
(North Elevator) Yes, corridors may be accessed. If you need to enter a specific room, notify me and I will contact the relevant personnel.
Jessica gives a shrug of her shoulders. "It's not too bad out here. Unfortunately it seems as if the good old days are behind us." she says with a sigh, "I imagine it's a big departure out here from what you're used to on Earth, though."
Korio nods, tapping the button to the third deck. "My thanks again, Victoria." he says as he waits arrival at his destination.
Spencer gives a shrug and extends a hand to Nathan. "Oh, I'm just Spencer. I keep track of the cargo and all that. So if something's missing, I'm the one you come yell at." he says with a chuckle.
Nathan clasps the man's hand in a firm shake, smiling. "I'll keep that in mind. Nathan Tennhausen. Call me Ten," he says as he releases the grip.
There is one table near each of the two windows. One is empty, and the other has a single chair occupied by the moustachioed man reading a book.
Jason reaches the cargo hold and steps out. He gives a glance in each direction, looking for any sign of their cargo or someone to bother for more information.
Jasper's dreams are filled with two well-built hispanic men in a dimly lit hangar, arguing about whether the Mako or the Hammerhead is the best tank.
Spencer returns the smile. "Can see why you'd wanna stick with a nickname alright, that's a bit of a tricky one. I-..." he glances over to the elevator as it arrives in the cargo hold. "Oh hey!" he says with a wave to Jason. "You're probably here about the cargo, aren't ya? Vic said you'd been complainin'."
Nathan chuckles and, now that he is no longer distracted, makes for one of the larger containers. He easily scrabbles up it until he is stood upon it. He shakes out his arms and starts to count to himself before muttering, "You can do this, you can do this." He then, very carefully, pushes himself into a handstand on the edge of the container, wobbling ever so
slightly. "Shhhhhhhalrigh," he breathes. He slowly starts to lower himself until he's doing vertical push-ups.
Ling is waiting for the elevator Korio is in as it opens to the third floor. She's a human woman in her twenties with medium-length dark blonde hair and tan skin. She stares at the drell with wide eyes. "Oh! H-Hello!"
Jason approaches the man, offering Nathan a nod as he spots him. "Yeah..." he says, looking at the man suspiciously, "What else has she told you...?"
Yan Sun nods slightly. "Yeah, it's... different, that's for sure. A lot less crowded. I'm not-..." She pauses, looking a bit confused. "...good old days behind you?"
Korio steps out of the lift, bowing his head at the woman he crosses. "Hello." he says in turn, "I am with the security team. I thought it might be wise to commit the ship layout to memory." he says politely, gesturing towards the hall in an attempt at making some idle conversation. "I understand most of the rooms down here are off-limits to our team. I will make sure to mind my location."
Jason glances around with a sigh, giving Nathan a quick wave. "Victoria.." he explains, seemingly comfortable that the VI isn't easedropping as his cursory glance turned up no... wandering........ robots....? "What did 'she' tell you?"
Ling blinks. "Oh! R-Right. I-I guess it-... well, they d-don't want anyone g-g-getting in t-the way of ship operations."
Robyn exits from the kitchen door. She looks to be in her early 30's with long dark hair pulled into a tight ponytail and dressed in beige pants with a white top, sporting the ExoGeni patch on the shoulders. She gives a friendly smile as she spots the asari near the window. "First meal won't be ready for a few more hours, I'm afraid." she says.
Jessica gives a shake of her head and sits up, scooping her cap up and replacing it atop her head. "Eh, don't worry about it." she says as she claps her hands together and swings her legs over the side to face Yan Sun. She gives a cursory glance around the room and lets out a sigh as her gaze rests back on the woman across from her, "So, what kind of trouble can we get into around here?"
Jason starts a bit at the sound of Victoria. His eyes widen somewhat and he straightens his posture, bringing a finger up in front of his lips with a low 'Shh' to Spencer. He points upwards and nods a couple times. "How about you just point me in the direction of my team's things?" he asks.
Nathan gasps as he topples off of the container and crashes to the ground. He tried to salvage the landing, but it only successfully managed to put him on his arse. "Oooooowwww...".
Korio nods. "That seems wise." he responds. "I believe there must be much sensitive equipment on a vessel of this sort. I will take great care not to disturb anything." he responds with a small smile.
Uvena looks up at the woman addressing her, returning a smile. "That's fine," she says. "I just wanted to look out the window."
Yan Sun 's gaze also wanders briefly across the room and she gives a shrug. "I dunno, haven't been on long myself. Been messing with the VI, trying to get it to output music through the PA system. No luck yet." she says with a small, but enthusiastic grin.
Nathan waves a hand dismissively at the ceiling, slowly rising to his feet. "No," he wheezes, having the wind driven out of him by the impact. "No, I'm good. I'm good." He places a hand on his posterior and winces, shuffling off to the side.
Robyn glances over towards the window. "Oh! Sorry. Feel free to stay as long as you'd like in that case." she says with a light chuckle, approaching the window herself. "It is a nice view, isn't it? Even better once we exit FTL." She presses one hand against the window.
Jason starts in the indicated direction, but quickly turns back at the sound of Nathan making an ass out of himself. He raises an eyebrow as he spots the man flat on his ass, a lopsided grin forming on his face. "How'd that feel?" he asks sarcastically.
Artullin glances down at the two humans wittering away. He sighs and closes down his datapad, slipping it underneath his pillow. He stands and slowly walks down to them, deciding to try and be at least somewhat social.
Nathan groans and looks up at Jason. "Slightly less painful as having my ego shattered," he replies. "Hey... better than the last twelve times I attempted it. At least this time I managed to -actually- do a few presses." He sighs and stands up straight. "Question. Why are you so distrustful of the VI? It's just a machine, not like it can go rampant."
Spencer lets out a hearty laugh at Nathan's unfortunate fall. As the conversation goes to the VI he looks to Jason, interested in the man's response.
Jessica gives a quick chuckle. "That sounds like it could be fun..." she muses. As the turian joins up, she cocks an eyebrow at him, "Are you certain it's safe to leave your floating fortress?" she asks him with a glance back at his bunk and a slight smile.
Bort enters the passenger quarters, heading for their bed and lying down with a long, hissing yawn. "Bort need sleeps!" they announce before planting their face against the pillow.
Jason looks between the men, suddenly feeling put on the spot. "Look I-..." he begins, but quickly lowers his volume as he glances up briefly, "Look, I just don't trust it. You see? You're already discounting the damage that thing can do because it's a dumb robot! That's how they get us. They play dumb. But they're not dumb. They're made of computers, man! And they hear everything they
see everything! Tell me this-..." he continues, placing a hand on his hip as he turns to Spencer, "...does Vi-... Missus Vee'toria have access to all of the ship's systems?" He nods to himself a couple times as if he just won the discussion.
Artullin visibly grimaces at the vorcha drops into his bunk. "Eugh," he mumbles before turning to look at Jessica. "I'm sure it'll be fine. The traps I set will keep it safe," he replies in his monotone voice. It makes it difficult to determine whether he is joking or not.
Jessica glances over at the bed. "Seems you have quite the handsome neighbor." she says sarcastically as she watches the vorcha take his spot below Artullin's bed. "Lucky."
Uvena nods. "It's not my first spaceflight," she says before looking outside, "but staring out into the vast emptiness never gets old. It is... calming, in a way." She looks back at the woman. "I'm Uvena, by the way," she introduces herself. "Redrock Agency."
(Cargo Hold) If you have any complaints about my performance, please sumbit a complaint to the ExoGeni Corporation computer technologies branch.
Artullin looks at Jessica. "Would you like me to... what's the term? Hook you up with him? After all, he looks your type."
Robyn keeps one hand planted against the window as she glances over at the asari with a nod. "No, it sure doesn't get old. Robyn. I'm one of the ship's stewards. That means if you have any questions, I probably can't answer them, but I can probably point you in the direction of someone who can." she says with a chuckle.
Yan Sun glances over at the vorcha, looking briefly fascinated. She goes quiet on hearing Artullin's comment, gaze flickering briefly to Jessica before falling to the floor awkwardly.
Jessica deadpans the turian for an awkward amount of time. "You're aware that you're going to be going to sleep in the same room as me, right?" she says flatly, unclear whether she's joking or not.
Artullin tilts his head to the side. "I am. Why? Did I offend you?" He glances back at the vorcha, then back to Jessica.
Ling smiles. "T-That's great! We app-p-p-preciate it." She continues to stare at Korio. "I-I've never met a-a-a..." She furrows her eyebrows. "Uhm..."
Jason glances upwards slightly. "Yeah... Hit my head on a whole lot of 'somethings' a few years back and it's the sort of thing that sticks with you." he says with a frown, "I'm gonna grab some of the passenger bags. I think Ilyna is waiting for her crap." he adds with a sigh before stomping off towards their cargo.
Korio lets out a short chuckle. "A drell." he finishes her sentence for her, "Yes, I imagine my kind are not too common onboard your ships." He places his hands behind his back and bows his head, "A pleasure to meet you."
Jessica raises an eyebrow. "Oh, don't worry. You'll know if you offended me." She leans forward slightly before adding in a stage whisper, "When you least expect it."
Ling looks unsure what to do, quickly deciding to attemp to imitate the gesture, with considerably less grace. "Y-You t-too!" she says, stepping into the elevator.
Artullin remains silent for a second before chuckling. "I see. Well, I'll try to avoid offending you then."
Uvena smiles. "It's good to meet you, Robyn," she says. "And thank you. Maybe that'll save me some talks with the omni-present ceiling voice." She chuckles.
Robyn gives a chuckle in turn. "It might be slightly uncomfortable to someone not used to interacting with a VI regularly at first, but Victoria really is your best bet for getting any questions you may have answered. But the rest of us are more than happy to do whatever we can to help if you'd rather speak with one of us. Either way." She turns her gaze back to the window.
Jason removes his own armor case as well as Ilyna's backpack and sets his case aside before retrieving both of their travel bags. He slings the backpack and two travel bags over his shoulders and grabs the case once more as he heads back towards the lift, giving Spencer a quick wave as he passes by the man once more.
Nathan is standing patiently as he waits for the elevator, turning to give Jason a nod. "Need a hand, boss?"
Jessica shrugs as she hops out of her bunk. "That's a start." she says, sizing the turian up. She glances over at Yan Sun as if she's her new minion and waves her down, "How about you show me around this floating casket? I'm pretty damn hungry, is there a place we can get some food?"
Jason slings one of the bags off his shoulder and extends it towards Nathan. "I'm not gonna decline free labor." he says with a grin, "So, what do you think so far? Everything seem on the level here?"
Yan Sun looks to Jessica and then jumps off her bed. "Yeah, sure." She nods towards the door with a friendly smile, stepping past Artullin and towards it.
Nathan takes the travel bag and pulls it onto his shoulder, chuckling. "Well, everyone -seems- nice and polite and helpful," he admits. "But, after seeing your reaction to the VI, I can't help but feeel... discomforted."
Artullin hums and turns away, seeing that he isn't wanted. He starts to make his way back to his bed.
Uvena nods. "I'll have no qualms asking the VI should the request be urgent," she says, before turning her gaze to the window. "That she shares the name with the goofball that lives with my daughter doesn't make it less awkward."
Jessica gives the turian another once over. "You can come, too." she says with a shrug as if she doesn't particularly care one way or another, "If you want."
Jason gives a shake of his head as he hits the lift's call button. "It's nothing. I've just had bad experiences with this company in the past..." he admits, "I wouldn't even be taking this job if it wasn't paying so well... And if I actually had any say in the matter." he chuckles, giving a slight shrug. "Linda worked for the company for years, so I'm probably just being overly critical,
but the shit we went through-..." he trails off slightly, "Just... keep your eyes open. You see anything out of the ordinary? Let me or Ilyna know, alright?"
Nathan pops off a salute to Jason. "Alright, boss. I'll keep my eyes on." He smirks. "The ol' ball and chain has the say of the jobs, hmm?"
Yan Sun heads out the door, going down the corridor towards the cafeteria. Upon reaching it she heads for the next table over from where Uvena is, taking a seat. Unfortunately she misses the chair and falls on her butt. "Ow..."
Jason raises an eyebrow at the chosen expression. "Uhhh... I wouldn't say that." he scrambles, shifting uncomfortably, "I just... I mean-... She ran it by me and-..." he shrugs, "...She used to work for ExoGeni, so I couldn't say no. But if I did say no, she would've agreed. Whole heartedly." he nods, "She knows. She knows." He gives Nathan a wink and turns back to face the
Korio cocks his head to the side as he notices the lack of a guard. He places a hand over the panel and presses it.
Robyn's smile widens at the asari's words. "Oh? Daughter, huh?" she asks, but quickly realizes she may be getting too personal, "Oh, sorry. It's none of my business. I have two of my own."
Jessica follows behind Yan Sun but lets out a loud snort at the woman's failure. "How the fuck did you manage that?" she manages through her laughter, offering the woman no assistance as she takes a seat across from where Yan Sun attempted to sit. "So where's the grub?"
Jason nods as the lift arrives. "Absolutely." he says confidently and steps into the lift. "We have a real give-and-take, ya know? She respects my opinion."
Nathan nods, playing along with Jason as he steps into the elevator. "Of course. She fully respects it."
Jason frowns, well aware that he's being mocked. "You realize I can fire you, right? I'm not sure if you've heard about how we handle that sort of shit in space, but let's just say an airlock has many uses." he jokes, his grin returning.
Jasper wakes with a loud yawn and a groan, cap still perfectly seated on his head. He rotates and swings his legs off the side, blinking a few times as he looks around. "Nothin' beats a nice powernap." he says to nobody in particular as he reaches far out to his sides to stretch.
Nathan laughs, rubbing his chin. "Understood, boss-man. Mocking the fact your SO wears the pants in your relationship equals possibly unemployment via airlock. Gotcha." He stifles a laugh and shifts the bag on his shoulder.
Jason nods sternly. "Great." he says, shuffling the bag over his shoulder somewhat. "We share the pants." he mutters, "It's like-... like one leg each." He nods once more, "And you better believe I control the zipper!"
Uvena looks back at her. "It's fine," she says with a shrug. "How old are yours, if you don't mind me asking?"
Yan Sun scrambles back to her chair, looking flushed. "It, uh-... right. Grub." She looks around and then waves at Robyn. "Hey! Think we could get some snacks or something? I knooow it's not time for lunch yet, but we're a nice bunch and I can pay..."
Korio tilts his head to the other side. He gives a glance back and forth down the hall, concerned as to how they might get to the weaponry if something were to happen right now. "Quite the oversight." he muses aloud.
Nathan can't help but burst out into laughter at the latter. "Alright, alright, too much information." He shakes his head. "Mein Gott, but you are weird, boss. Fun, but weird."
Leonard flips page in his book, although he does briefly look up at the commotion when Yan Sun fails at sitting.
Robyn reaches into her pocket to remove her omni-tool as she sees Yan Sun waving for her attention. "Hmm?" She pokes at her omni-tool a few times, causing the interface to project above the small device. She gives Yan Sun an apologetic tilt of her head, "You know I can't do that. If I did it for you, I'd have to do it for everyone. Sorry." she says. She leans over to give Uvena a better look at the screen. It's
displaying a young boy and a girl alongside Robyn. They look to be about 5 or 6 and share an obvious resemblance to their mother. "David and Rebecca." she says, beaming proudly, "They're twins."
Jessica frowns. "Well, that didn't work." she says, looking pointedly at Yan Sun, "Wish I would've known they weren't going to let us eat. Would've brought some snacks with me." she groans.
Jason snorts loudly. "Weird? The hell is that supposed to mean?" he asks, feigning offense as the lift doors slide open.
Nathan shrugs and bolts out the door. He turns and walks backwards, grinning all the way. "Nothing at all, boss, nothing at all. You are the pinnacle of normality."
Yan Sun pouts. "Aww, you're no fun, Robyn!" She turns back to Jessica and Artullin. "Sorry, guys..."
Jason rolls his eyes. "And you're the pinnacle of bullshit. I just watched you faceplant after trying to do a handstand on a crate and you're calling me weird, Ten? Uh huh.... Right." he responds as he heads back towards their quarters, a smirk still present on his face.
Nathan blinks and he narrows his eyes at Jason. "...too soon." He replies as he follows Jason. However, he is still smiling faintly.
Uvena looks over the picture, a smile forming. "They're adorable," she says. "It mustn't be easy leaving them at home."
Yan Sun furrows her eyebrows as she looks out across the cafeteria. "An hour or two until dinner I think..."
Robyn lets out a sigh as she studies the photo for a few more moments before closing the program. "It isn't. But ExoGeni pays well and, as difficult as it is to spend so much time away from them, at least I know it means they're well taken care of." She slips her omni-tool back into her pocket, "How old is yours, if you don't mind me asking?"
Jessica groans loudly. "Well, fuck." she says, "What do you do in the meantime usually? Going back to that cluttered room and staring at the ceiling doesn't sound all too appealing, believe it or not."
The doors to the security office slides open. The office itself is fairly sizable. The Security Chief sits behind his desk, looking towards the drell expectantly. "Something I can do for you, mercenary?"
Jason gives a shake of his head as they enter the quarters again. "Just toss that bag by my bed." he says, gesturing towards his bunk. "Got your shit, Ilyna~" he chimes, unslinging the backpack and tossing it up onto her bed. He sets her other bag at the foot of the bed.
Nathan | "Hoopla!" Nathan tosses the bag at Jason's bed with flair, before making a beeline toward his bunk and possessions. "If she's tampered with anything..." he mutters.
Korio takes a single step inside and glances around, hands behind his back once more. "Just a question, actually. I've noticed that the armory is inaccessible without proper authority. Should we come under attack during our journey, I believe this could be troublesome. Would it not be wise to give those of us charged with your protection access to the tools in which to protect you with?"
Yan Sun shrugs. "Eh, I like chatting with whoever. The crew hasn't been very talkative though, so I've mostly been on my omni-tool." She raises her left arm, a series of geometric blue lights appearing across her skin, travelling from a brightly glowing circle in her palm and up her lower arm. The omni-tool projection, also blue, flickers to life a moment later.
Jessica raises an eyebrow at the display. She leans forward, sitting atop the bench on her knees as she reaches across the table to grasp at Yan Sun's arm and pull it towards her to get a better look at it. "Niiiice." she says, sounding impressed by the tech, "Bet that costed a lot. Implant?" she asks, gazing back up at the woman.
Bartholomew shakes his head dismissively. "If there's an emergency, Victoria will open up access to the armory. While in transit we think it's safer to have as few people as possible walking around with guns. You understand."
Korio remains just in front of the door. "I do. I just believe a contingency plan is rarely a bad idea. Perhaps you might consider giving access to a couple of Redrock employees in case of an emergency? I hope I am not speaking out of turn, Chief Volkoff. In my experience when things go wrong, you're always better off if you have more than one way to, how do they say? Skin a cat?"
Uvena enables her omni-tool, and browses through the camera reel. "I see, they sound like a wonderful employer," she says. "My daughter is eighty-seven. So, not exactly a child anymore, but you know...." She finds a picture and rotates it so the other woman can see. She's standing in front of a restaurant in Freedom Falls, giving a very stilted smile to the camera. She's a younger asari resembling Uvena quite a lot, except for appeari
Ilyna gasps as the bag lands ontop of her, and she sits up suddenly. "Thank you," she says, before opening the backpack and going through it. "I take it that means all our things got onboard safely?"
Robyn tilts her head to get a better look. "Oh, she's quite beautiful." she says, "Is eighty-seven considered young for your kind?" She puts a hand up, stuttering slightly as she realizes her ignorance may come across as offensive, "I'm sorry! I hope that didn't come across as-... I didn't mean anything by it. Honest."
Jason gives a nod, tossing his own bag onto his bed beside the one Nathan placed down. "Mmhmm. Seems like it. Haven't checked out the armory yet, but that'll be my next stop." He gives a nod at her backpack, "That everything you needed? Just those two bags?"
Yan Sun grins proudly, her fingers dancing over the central part of the haptic interface, which is projected in her palm. "Yeah, that it did." She says to Jessica. "Worth it though." As she presses keys the lines of light in her arm pulse and go higher up the arm, looking almost like circuitry as they move up the upper arm, passing under the strap of her top and up her neck, ending at an implant on the left side of her head, near
the temple. There's a brief flash of light from the implant and then her left eye lights up blue as well, and her grin widens. "Upgraded most of my arm, and... a couple of other things."
Bartholomew lets out a grunt. "Me and my men have access too. Should something happen to the VI, we'll open it up for you." It's clear he's a bit annoyed at being questioned.
Artullin nods approvingly. "I'd like to talk more about that later," he says, being the most social he has been since arriving. "But I'm going to head back for now. See you two." He turns and makes his way back to the passenger quarters. Once there, he would climb into his bunk, thought he holds no consideration for the sleeping vorcha as he does so.
Jessica runs her fingertip along the light, tracing it up her arm as it moves until it's out of reach from her awkward sitting position. She gives Artullin a wave as she settles back into her seat properly. "Would love to have some mods like that. Never had the credits for something that expensive though. If I did, I think there's probably other things I should worry about fixing first..." she says sheepishly, appearing
somewhat self-conscious for the first time as she purposely shifts somewhat to her right, angling her burned half away from Yan Sun partially. "So.... other things?" she asks, trying to quickly move attention from herself, "Like what?"
Uvena gives a reassuring smile. "Yeah, that's young," she says. "She's not a child anymore, but in some context, she'd be considered barely more than one." She taps on her omni-tool, and the interface disappears.
Ilyna nods. "Yeah," she says, before taking out a small bar of chocolate from her backpack. "We can go check on the armory later, though. I don't think anything bad would happen while we're in FTL."
Korio bows his head respectfully. "Of course, Chief Volkoff. I will not take up anymore of your time. Enjoy the rest of your evening." He backs out of the room and allows the door to close.
Robyn gives another chuckle, "You never stop worrying about them, though, do you? I know I'll be having a nice long video chat with mine as soon as we drop from FTL. Nearly two weeks without contact isn't my idea of fun..." she says with a sigh.
Jason narrows his eyes on Ilyna and then stares at the chocolate bar. "Uh huh. Worst-case scenario they forgot our weapons and we have to use their own onboard shit. Hopefully that's not the case, but it's not the end of the world."
Yan Sun gives the turian a quick nod as he leaves, not really looking his way as her gaze is focused on Jessica's finger as it trails up her arm. When the hand is withdrawn from her cybernetics she shivers slightly, and it takes a moment before her attention refocuses and she looks to the woman's face. Upon the mention of the burns, her gaze inevitably moves across them, if only for a brief moment. She looks a bit saddened, but
takes the hint. "Yeah. Yeah." She taps the cybernetics at her temple. "Neural enhancement." She blinks the glowing eye. "Got a new eyeball too. Built in HUD, some minor vision filtering..."
Bartholomew lets out a grunt as the drell leaves, and after he's gone he mumbles something about weird lizards.
Bort is biting their pillow, needle-like teeth burying deep into the cotton as they gnaw, still drooling.
Jessica seems thankful that the focus has kept off of her. "Hmph. Pretty impressive. What kind of vision filtering? Can you see like heat signatures and shit?" she asks, bringing her legs up onto the bench now that the turian has left, "What would you need something like that for in your kind of work?"
Uvena nods, seeming a bit thoughtful for a moment. "Never stops," she says. "I hope you don't have to do this regularly, though?"
Ilyna unwraps it, and breaks off almost half of it, which she throws at Jason. "Yeah," she says, "but if the rest of our luggage is safely onboard, what's the chance they lost our weapons?"
Robyn gives a shrug of her shoulders. "Often enough for it to really suck. Not often enough to get used to it. But you do what you do for the ones you love, right?" She smiles once more and glances back towards the kitchen. "I should get back to work. Like I said, food should be ready in a few hours. It was nice talking to you, Uvena."
Jason 's lopsided grin returns as he reaches out a hand to catch the chocolate and takes a bite out of it, nodding his head in appreciation. "Yeah." he agrees as he chews, "Seems unlikely. Still, best to take stock and make sure before they're needed... If they're needed. Hopefully they won't be." He grips the edge of Ilyna's railing as he crouches and slides into his own bed beneath
Jessica glances down at herself and then back at Yan Sun's distant look. "Are you scanning me right now? What does it show?" she asks curiously, shifting in her seat.
Ilyna nods. "Yeah," she simply answers. She takes a bite of her chocolate as she resumes taking stock of her personal belongings.
Yan Sun nods. "Uh-huh. Infrared, EM, some other stuff like that. Pretty much everything you can fit in something this small." She raises her left eyebrow and no longer seems to be looking at Jessica so much as at the air in front of her. "I mostly use it for virtual overlays though, scanner functions are pretty basic, and range is poor. The overlays are useful for tech work though. Don't need a screen, or even the omni-tool projection
Yan Sun continues to look at unseen data as she speaks. "You mostly look like a blob of color right now. I'm on infrared." She grins and then blinks. When her eyes open the glow in the left is gone.
Jessica glances down at herself once more and merely shrugs again. "Not the worst thing I've been called." she jokes. "So where did you get that sort of tech installed? Back on Earth? Seems like it would be a pretty big procedure, hm?" she asks, her eyes moving back to Yan Sun's arm. She seems genuinely interested in all of Yan Sun's upgrades.
Yan Sun 's grin slowly fades. "Uh... yeah. There's a lot of cybernetics clinics on Earth." She nods a couple of times. "Took a while to get everything installed. Longer for it to stop hurting like hell." Her gaze moves down to her own arm, as she studies the glowing circuits. She suddenly adds. "Not that I'm complaining. Well worth the upgrade."
Artullin snaps out of bed with military-like precision. He hops down and cranes his neck. Dressed in simple trousers, his crest exposed to the light. He peers around and blinks.
