#Deck2 – April 1, 2016
The third day of the trip is now underway. Lunch is serving in the cafeteria, with most of the crew having eaten already. Today’s lunch is a vegetable soup. The turian option is also a soup, but one that seems much less appealing, because of course. The research team is still busy preparing for their work on the planet surface.
Korio carries his tray over to Ling's table and sets it across from her, having come in for lunch a bit later due to his mid-day work out and shower. "May I sit here?" he asks, aware of the fact that she seems to sit by herself often.
Robyn is beginning her rounds of cleaning, collecting empty trays that once held food as lunch begins to come to a close.
Uvena is still sitting in the cafeteria with an empty soup plate in front of her. She's by the window, looking out into space despite the distortions made by the ship being in FTL.
Robyn passes by Uvena, balancing a stack of trays against her hip. "This seems to be your spot, huh?" she asks with a slight chuckle.
Korio bows his head and takes a seat across from the woman. Dipping his spoon into the bowl of soup, he gives it a quick stir. "How has your day been? I'm finding it quite difficult to sleep when the concept of time itself is no longer relevant." he says idly, gazing down into his food.
Uvena looks over at the woman addressing her when she eventually realizes it's her being spoken to. "Mhm," she says. "There's not much else to do on this ship for us hired security, and I'm sure we all want it that way." She cracks a smile.
Robyn lets out another chuckle. "I have some reading material if you'd like. I always come prepared."
Ling tilts her head a little, leaving her spoon in the bowl for the moment. "Y-You're not used t-to space...?"
Korio gives a slight tilt of his head. "I've done my fair share of traveling, but my experience is limited to travel from point A to point B. The idea of existing, self contained, upon a ship takes some getting used to. I believe my sleep cycle may need some reviewing upon our return." he says, giving a quick chuckle after.
Uvena chuckles. "That would be appreciated," she says, "because I didn't prepare all that well myself."
Robyn gives a quick glance back towards the kitchen as she shuffles the trays, setting them atop Uvena's table. "Not a problem! Do you have your omni-tool with you?" she asks, fishing her own from her pocket, "It's mostly trash magazines, but it will give you something to do."
Ling gulps down a small spoonful of soop as she listens. "I-I-I g-guess I-I'm j-j-just... used t-to it... living on a s-ship..." she says with a faint smirk. "S-Seems natural t-to me."
Uvena nods, and the interface shows up around her arm shortly after. "What are the magazines about?"
Robyn begins poking at the interface and Uvena would see a file transfer request. "Oh, just shows. New vids. Celebrity life." she says with a smile, "Like I said. Trash. But my kind of trash." she adds with a chuckle.
Korio offers a smile as he nods. "Indeed. Perhaps it is just an acquired taste." he says as he brings the spoon to his lips. "I will get used to it. " he assures her.
Ling nods faintly. "I-I h-hope so." She scoops up another spoonful of soup, not saying anything, the effort making it seem unworthwhile to attempt smalltalk.
Uvena accepts the file transfer. "It's not my usual reading material, but I'll probably enjoy it," she says with a smile. "Speaking of vids, are there any big screens on board that could be borrowed for an evening?"
Korio takes another spoonful of soup as well before setting the spoon down entirely and gazing across the table at the woman. "Forgive me if I'm out of line, but I noticed that you seem to struggle quite a bit with your speech pattern." he says frankly, recalling her display from the other day as well, "I mean no disrespect, I only wish to say: While I understand if you are unable to see it, it may be less of a curse and more of
a blessing. Far too many people allow words to spill forth from their mouth like a running faucet, unsure of when to turn it off. You travel the path of the wise, choosing your words and trimming them down until only the essentials are left. It is challenging, but you persevere. You are an inspiration." He offers a small smile before returning his attention to his lunch.
Robyn gives a sympathetic shake of her head. "No, I'm afraid not. It would be nice, though, wouldn't it?" she muses with a sigh, "The best you're going to get is the screen in your quarters unfortunately."
Korio merely bows his head once more, not wanting to force the woman to speak anymore than required. He focuses on his food.
Uvena nods. "That would be nice, yeah," she says. "I suggested to Wolfe that we have a movie night to get to know our newer recruits. I'm not so sure about having it in our quarters, though."
Robyn seems to perk up at the idea. "Oooh, a movie night!? That sounds like fun! You could talk with him, pick a night and then just make sure it's okay with everyone in your quarters. Right? Set it for a time when nobody will be eating or sleeping and it shouldn't be a problem."
Uvena smirks. "I'll run it by him," she says, "but that sounds like an awful lot of organizing for some of us to huddle around a small screen." She pauses, the nods, "I suppose that's one way to make time pass."
Robyn raises her shoulders in a shrug, ever the romantic, "I don't know, it sounds sweet. Your whole team sitting around the room, joking and talking over a vid. Hey! Maybe I could prepare some snacks for it!" she offers, seeming excited at the idea, "...If I was invited, of course." she digresses.
Ling finishes the rest of her soup in silence - if she's uncomfortable with it she shows no sign of it. One she's done she stands up, grabbing her bowl. "T-Thank you f-f-for your c-company." she says with a brief smile and heads for the counter to drop of her dishes.
Korio nods once more. "And you for yours." he says in turn, "If our schedules should permit, I look forward to sharing another meal with you." he says, not expecting a response as he returns to his soup.
Uvena nods. "Of course we'll invite you," she says. "My colleagues are good people. I'm sure they'll be alright with it too." She finally disables her omni-tool, which interface has been idle for a minute or two now.
Robyn disables hers as well, seemingly having forgotten about it amidst the movie-night talk. "Sounds like fun!" she says, casting a quick glance at the window. "But I'm going to let you get back to your stargazing." she continues, recollecting the trays on the table, "Should probably get back to work myself before I start getting the side-eye."
Uvena chuckles. "Please do stop me if I'm keeping you from doing your job," she says in a less than serious tone. "Anyway, I appreciate you stopping to talk, Robyn."
Robyn nods as she departs. "Always a pleasure, Uvena. Let me know how those movie-night plans go!" she says, power-walking back towards the kitchen.
