#Deck1 – April 26, 2016
Harmonia has called Jason, Jessica, Ilyna and Artullin up to the conference room, and she now stands at one of the ends of the table, typing on a datapad as she waits for them to arrive.
Dr. Wong is currently examining Nathan's arm in the medbay to make sure the cast has been holding up correctly, and has survived sleep and showering unharmed.
Nathan sits sheepishly, glancing around as the doctor does her medical stuff. "So, remind me, how long before I can get out of this thing, doc?" He asks for perhaps the tenth time since he has had it applied.
Artullin is decked out in his combat armour, bar helmet. He's currently waiting outside the conference room after passing the trio who exited.
Jason is in his usual attire: black pants, boots and a white shirt. He turns to the side and moves against the wall as he spots the three on their way out, stepping out of their way. "Any idea what this is about?" he asks them as they pass by.
Dr. Wong lets out an annoyed sigh as she closes her omni-tool and performs a visual inspection of the cast, gently lifting Nathan's arm and viewing it from different angles. "Answer hasn't changed. Three to four weeks. Another month after that before you regain full strength."
Yan Sun stops and glances back at the conference room door. "Questions about the research base and all that. Probably the same for you."
Nathan sighs and tilts his head back, staring up at the ceiling. "Greeeeeat," he groans. "And it had to be my good arm...".
Jason lets out a sigh and nods. "Alright. Thanks..." he says before turning back towards the door and approaching Artullin.
Jessica moves down the hall, approaching Yan Sun from behind as she's focused on Jason and using her thumb and middle finger to flick the back of Yan Sun's ear.
Ilyna jogs to catch up with Jason on his way to the conference room, having been too late to go up with the same elevator as him. She's in a modest gray casual dress.
Artullin nods to Jason. "Wolfe," he greets. He folds his arms across his chest, a talon tapping against the emerald green plating.
Yan Sun startles as Jessica flicks her ear, jumping slightly and her arm flailing out, hitting Ilyna in the face as she jogs past. "Gah!"
Ilyna stops and turns around, looking puzzled. "What was that about?" she asks, sounding confused rather than angry.
Jessica brings a hand up to her mouth as a muffled chuckle escapes her. "You are such a fool..." she manages once her laughter dies down. She gives a shake of her head as she shoves Yan Sun aside playfully and continues towards the conference room with a smirk.
Jason returns the turian's nod. "Artullin." he responds plainly. He glances back over his shoulder at the commotion, but doesn't pay it much attention as he takes a position near the door. "Sounds like they just want us to go over what we saw in the facility." he informs the turian.
Artullin nods, glancing down the corridor with a curious twitch of his mandibles. "Understandable," he replies with a nod. "Though, I'm curious as to how easily the AI went down at the mere suggestion of a human."
Dr. Wong grunts faintly in response as she finishes up the visual inspection and types in a note on her omni-tool. "Maybe you should consider another profession if you don't care for injuries." She heads over to her desk and sits down. "The file I recieved from your employer says that Dr. Halisi at the Athame's Embrace Medical Center is your current physician, correct?"
Yan Sun blushes as she realizes she hit someone, spinning around and holding out her hands in front of her. "Sorry! Sorry!" she exclaims to Ilyna.
Nathan sends her a glowering look. "I think I'm entitled to a bit of complaining after getting pummeled by an angry fish and a krogan/vorcha cross-breed," he mumbles. He then sighs and nods, waving with his free hand. "Yeah, I assume so. Only met her once."
Jason gives a shrug. "Didn't sit too well with me, either." he admits with a sigh, "But it did the trick. Our only concern is that everyone got out in one piece. So, as far as I can tell, job well done." He gives a nod to Jessica and Ilyna as they approach. "Hey."
Jessica lifts her hand slightly in greeting before posting up against the wall opposite of the door and waiting for their entry.
Artullin offers a nod to the approaching mercs, though he continues to speak with Jason. "I still feel like we're missing something... but, as you said. Job done," he relents with a flanging sigh.
Dr. Wong nods faintly as she types something into her terminal. "I will make sure she gets a copy of my files here. Everything is in order with the cast, although you should be careful with how you sleep."
Jason glances over to Ilyna as she arrives. "We were just talking about the whole situation with the AI. How it seemed a little-..." he shrugs, "...too easy? Like I was saying, it's not particularly our concern one way or another. Whatever the nerd did back there, it seemed to do the trick. We've certainly had enough bad luck for ten lifetimes, maybe this was just a little bit of karma coming
Jessica shifts uncomfortably in place, realizing she hadn't even considered how Yan Sun managed to calm the AI.
Nathan chuckles humorlessly. "If I even sleep," he muses. "Speaking of, you got anything to help with that? Restless sleeping, I mean?"
Artullin simply nods in agreement, leaning against the wall. "Perhaps you should be first in, Wolfe. You are the... 'commanding officer' after all," he says.
Jason lets out a loud sigh and gives it a moment to make sure everyone is ready before tapping the panel and stepping into the room.
Harmonia looks to Jason as he steps into the room. "Mr. Wolfe." she says plainly before taking a seat at the end of the table. The long table has more than enough seats for the group of mercenaries.
Dr. Wong glances back at Nathan, still typing. "Of course. A lot of people that aren't used to living on a ship tend to struggle." She slides her chair over to a nearby cabinet, opening it and taking out a small pill bottle which she hands over to him. "One per night, with water."
Jason remains near the end by the door, taking a seat closest to the door itself. "I take it this is about the facility we found...?" he asks.
Nathan takes the bottle with a thankful nod and smile, pocketing it. "Thanks, doc," he says. "Is there anything else you need to check?"
Jessica pushes away from the wall and follows the others inside, taking a seat beside Artullin. She folds her hands on the table and looks towards Harmonia silently.
Harmonia looks to each of them once they've all sat down. She gives Jason a small nod. "Yes, that's right. As I'm sure you understand ExoGeni Corp is very interested in an unusual occurance such as this unknown facility, on an uncharted planet. I'd like for you to go through everything that happened during your excursion to retrieve the probe, starting with your arrival there."
Jason glances to Ilyna, cocking an eyebrow as Harmonia talks. "Oh, we know all too well about ExoGeni's 'interests'." he says without going into any details, his gaze fixed on the asari. He lets out a sigh before returning his attention to Harmonia. "I don't think there's much to say. We were ambushed by a group of vorcha. Their numbers were far too large for a continued engagement, and they
destroyed our Mako so we cracked the ice to buy us some time and retreated on foot. We came across the facility not too long after. It was a shock to all of us, but the vorcha were gaining ground on us, so we didn't have much choice aside from heading inside. The vorcha seemed to be spooked by the place and let us be..." he says, going silent momentarily to allow the rest of his team to pipe
Ilyna frowns and looks at the table, seemingly not happy about Jason bringing that up. She remains quiet, letting Jason recount the events.
Artullin leans back into his seat. "We were greeted by a frozen corpse, that of an asari with a sabotaged environmental suit," he adds.
Harmonia furrows her eyebrows as she listens to Jason recount the events of their excursion so far. The first comment causes a raised eyebrow but after that she shows no change in reaction, just nodding along. "If I can stop you for a moment... the Mako, what exactly happened to it? That's an expensive piece of equipment you lost."
Jason sighs, settling into his seat. "Correction, we had nothing to do with the equipment. We weren't in control of it, and the equipment's safety wasn't a part of our job. The researchers drove." he says, not wanting to name names and throw Athassa under the Mako, "The vorcha, as I said, outnumbered us greatly. They overwhelmed the vehicle and it wasn't long before it collapsed through the
Nathan hurms and springs to his feet, leaving without another word. He glances this way and and that before moseying on over to the elevator.
I was keeping the researchers safe behind a barrier, I couldn't have done anything to prevent the vehicle from going through the ice.
Harmonia studies Jason, not saying anything for a while. She glances at the others and then nods. "Proceed."
Nathan palms the interface and steps into the elevator once it arrives. He makes to press the interface when he pauses and realizes... what the hell should he do? He shrugs and presses the interface to take him down to Deck 4.
Jason bites down hard, remaining silent for a few moments before continuing. "Anyway, we had no way to get in contact with the camp and we knew it was only a matter of time before our suits lost power, so we entered the facility. As Artullin said, we found a frozen asari- I assume a researcher- with a sabotaged suit. Shortly after our arrival, we set out to make sure the place was clear and
to try to get the power back on. That was when we ran into the AI. It tried to sieze control of your technician-..." he glances towards Jessica, "...I suppose because of all the-... I don't know? Implants and cybernetics?" he asks, as if awaiting confirmation from Jessica.
Jessica gives a shrug, regaining her uncomfortable look. "Your guess is as good as mine, but that sounds about right. She managed to sever the connection, though."
Ilyna remains quiet, not having anything to add as she either stayed back or slept for most of their time down there.
Artullin looks to Harmonia. "From what we recovered, it seems a team of asari were conducting illegal AI research. We discovered the frozen corpse of a turian from Special Tactics and Recon. He was responsible for the enactment of the asari's deaths." He pauses and glances to the group.
Harmonia continues to listen in silence as the group explains, although at the mention of Yan Sun she frowns. After Artullin finishes she asks: "Did you recover anything from this turian? Omni-tool, armor data, weaponry, orders..."
Jason gives a shake of his head. "We didn't poke around any more than we had to. My goal was to keep the researchers, and my team, alive. Figuring out why that facility was there, or what happened to it, didn't seem all that important when we were faced with the possibility of freezing to death. By Artullin's estimation, however, it seems that the gear he was carrying was pretty old." he says,
Artullin nods, opening up his omni-tool as he retrieves footage from his helmet. "A few hundred years old at best. I retrieved the rifle from him. It should be stored in the armoury, currently. After we returned to Aite, I was going to take it with me to Palaven and report the final resting place of the unknown Spectre. I think it is only right that he be retrieved and giving a proper burial. Along with the asari."
Jason gives a couple of nods. "Either way, I think it's a safe assumption that the Spectre was sent to put a stop to them as a result of the AI. Yan Sun was able to shut it down and we hunkered down until help arrived. That's pretty much the long-and-short of it." he says with a shrug, "It did seem to be set up for a long-term project. I mean, they had heating and power generation taken care
Harmonia listens to Artullin with interest. At his final comments she frowns for a moment but gives a nod. "Of course. Just make sure the science team has a chance to do a proper analysis of it first. ExoGeni may be able to cooperate with the Hierarchy when it comes to a potential return trip to the facility in question." When Jason speaks again she furrows her eyebrows and nods. "Yes, that is the impression I have been getting.
It is a shame the AI was not recovered. An examination of it might have proved enlightening. At least it was neutralized."
Jason gives another nod, but is silently cheering that the AI didn't end up in ExoGeni's hands. "It had to be done. Yan Sun seemed to think that it was identifying us as hostile and attempting to get a distress message out to the geth. I'm just glad we all made it back."
Harmonia nods in agreement. "So am I. And that's all thanks to your people. Is there anything else any of you have to add about your experience at the facility?"
Jason gives a shake of his head. "That about covers it." he says, casting a glance around to see if any of the rest of his team has anything to add, "If you come up with any further questions, I'll be more than happy to answer them."
Jessica leans forward slightly as she looks towards Harmonia. "I would just like to say-...uhhh.... Yan Sun did well. Invaluable to the whole thing." she says with a nod, looking uncomfortable at having to compliment someone else openly, "...She should probably get a bonus or something..." she finishes with a shrug and then shrinks back into her seat.
Ilyna shakes her head. "I stood guard near the entrance while they investigated the place," she says. "I didn't see anything they wouldn't have."
Harmonia gives Jessica a skeptical look but nods to the others. "Alright, that's it for now. I'll let you know if we need anything else." she says, typing on her datapad again.
Jason gives another nod. "Sounds good." he says as he stands from his seat, "Well, you know where to find us." he adds with a smirk before turning towards the door and following Ilyna out.
Jessica stands up and starts towards the door. "Really. A big bonus." she says back to Harmonia before exiting.
