#Snowscape – April 16, 2016
Once everyone has piled into the rover it takes off to the southeast, in the footsteps of the probe that encountered the carcass. Athassa drives, with Rala accompanying her at the front of the vehicle, although they are both in the same compartment as the others, which find themselves seated in the passenger seats on each side. Yan Sun and Plask are seated on opposite sides. They've been driving for over two hours, and the trip has
been uneventful so far, although the weather has shifted again, with the snowfall growing heavier, thick, heavy flakes falling from gray skies, and the terrain as well is different, with cracks and crags in the ice, although they pose little hinderance to the Mako.
Jason is harnessed into his seat, weapon laying across his lap for comfort. "About how far out are we?" he calls up to Athassa.
Jessica is seated beside Yan Sun. Her shotgun is between her legs, pointed downward. Her dream of being a photographer doesn't seem to have been dashed yet, as she leans over close to Yan Sun to get her in frame and makes a funny face as she lifts her omni-tool up and sticks out her tongue at it before snapping a picture.
Athassa shouts over her shoulder while keeping her eyes on the path ahead. "We should be coming up on the probe in ten minutes or so."
Jason gives a nod to himself and glances over at Ilyna. "We'll be back in no time. Hell, maybe they'll be back from their dive when we get back." he says, trying to lift spirits somewhat.
Yan Sun grins as she notices Jessica's omni-tool, and leans in closer to her, sticking her tongue out as well, with a grimace.
Ilyna nods. "They should be, according to their estimate," she says with a sigh. "Hopefully Atana hasn't frozen in place by then."
Jason gives a quick chuckle. "I'm sure Ten will thaw her out. What was that about, anyway?" he asks before giving a glance towards Jessica and Yan Sun, "Seems like everyone is shacking up on this trip."
Jessica sits back in her seat and looks over the photo with a big grin. "Perfect. Perfect." she says with a chuckle as she reverses the interface to show it to Yan Sun.
Yan Sun shoots a glance in Jason's direction, looking briefly awkward, but her attention turns quickly to the picture as Jessica shows it, and she lets out a small laugh. "Yup. A real masterpiece." she says with a nudge of her shoulder.
Jason stares back at Yan Sun, folding his arms across his chest as she glances at him. "Miss Elevator." he teases. He shakes his head as his smirk widens. "Alright everyone." he says, deciding not to bother her anymore as his attention shifts to his Revenant, "Make sure you're ready to disembark. Let's get this over with as quickly as possible so we can get home."
Rala turns in her seat, looking back at Jason over her shoulder. "Rushing us, hm? This is what we're here for!" she says with a smile and a gesture of her arm.
Ilyna raises an eyebrow at Jason's teasing directed at Yan Sun, but doesn't ask. "You can take the time you need," she says, "but be ready to leave on very short notice."
Yan Sun sinks a little into her seat at Jason's comment, hints of embarassment washing over her face, but the jolt brings her out of it as she bumps into the turian next to her.
Jessica doesn't seem bothered by Jason's teasing, her grin just widens and she gives Yan Sun a wink.
Jason raises a hand towards Rala. "Not asking anyone to rush. Just to be efficient and prepared. Do what you need to do." He grabs a thermal clip and preps to load it into his Revenant, holding it securely in place as the bump jostles the weapon.
Ilyna is startled by the bump, looking around the vehicle interior before returning her gaze to the front to pay attention to Rala and Jason's conversation.
Athassa speaks over her shoulder again. "Okay, I see it up ahead. Terrain is a bit... tricky, but we will be there in a moment."
Athassa chuckles and nods. After another shudder and a little more driving the rover comes to a stop. "Alright, we are here. Tell me when you all have your helmets on."
Jason unharnesses himself and bends down, retrieving his helmet from beneath the seat. After latching it into place, he sits back and waits for the others.
Ilyna unharnesses, but she never took the helmet off. She does tap on her omni-tool to seal it, however.
Athassa climbs out of the driver's seat as the door on the side of the rover starts to slide open, a puff of snowy wind flying into the vehicle. They are parked in something of a valley, what seems to be a block of ice that collapsed long ago and then refroze. Ice cliff walls rise in most directions, with paths of builtup snow leading out. Nearby is an uneaven opening in the ice, and near it, the carcass, an imposingly sized
creature, the whale-squid mix that would be familiar to the diving team by now. It has quite clearly been pulled out of the ice, and the means is, unlike on the previous corpse, also obvious. Sizable bone harpoons are embedded deep into the flesh of the creature, and metal wires attach to their ends. There is no sign of the owners of these weapons however, but the snow around the water hole is disturbed, and the ice
