#ResearchCamp – April 16, 2016
Yan Sun stumbles out of the airlock just about the same time as Linora arrives to wait for it to open. She nearly topples the asari, and after an apology she starts talking. As soon as they're done, the Professor makes her way over to Mana, who is still working, taking note of her findings regarding the moon's climate and day/night cycle.
Ilyna left the hole half a minute ago to walk around the base on patrol. It's a (failed) attempt at putting her mind off worrying for the people under the water.
Uvena has barely moved from her position, the inactivity making her shiver occasionally as the suit maintains a less than comfortable temperature.
Linora soon finds herself approaching the small group by the ice hole again. "One of the probes have found something of interest. We are sending a group to investigate right away. Do you have enough people for an escort?" she says to Jason.
Jessica is in the kitchen sipping at a cup of coffee dressed in her undersuit and armored boots, beige cap back on her head. She tries to get a glance at what Artullin is looking at.
Artullin is scrolling through what looks like family photos. Him, his wife and his daughter. He seems compeltely oblivious to Jessica.
Jessica studies the photo for a moment. "Is your family...?" she asks before taking another sip of her coffee.
Jason turns to Linora, passing one more glance at the hole before sighing. "Interest? What are we talking about here?" he asks, hoping for more details before deciding how to handle it.
Athassa and Dr. Danaria emerge from the lab and make their way past Jessica and Artullin in the kitchen, talking excitedly about 'the discovery' as they pass into the bunk rooms, retrieving some personal items before going on to the airlock and starting to suit up.
Linora offers a smile and activates her omni-tool, projecting footage that is no doubt from one of the probes. The footage is not in the best of quality, and the snowfall doesn't help, but some kind of smaller creatures can be seen scurrying over a carcass much like the one Nathan, Uvena and Yan Sun found, only much fresher.
Jessica nods slowly as she studies the photo from over Artullin's shoulder. She passes a glance back towards the emerging researchers. "It's a nice photo. You miss them, yeah?" she asks, seemingly just trying to fill the silence that previously permeated the room.
Artullin nods again. "Yeah," he says. He flicks the photo away and powers down the omni-tool. He is armoured up, his helmet sat besides him on the table. "What about you? Do you have any family back home, waiting for you?"
Jason studies the footage as it plays out, leaning in closer to get a better look. "Are we thinking those are what killed that big sucker?" he asks, sounding unsure, "I'm guessing those are just scavengers or something, right...?" He gives a shake of his head, realizing those aren't the sort of questions that are even important to his job. "How many people are you sending? I'll put
Jessica considers the question for a moment before shaking her head. "No." she says plainly, "No home for that matter..." She glances down at Artullin and forces a bit of a smirk, playing it off as if it's no big deal, "I'm sort of-... in-between locations right now. Something I'll be sorting out when we return."
Ilyna reaches the group and looks over the latter half of the footage. She defers to Jason to do the talking, as usual.
Jessica snorts, but decides it's as good of an explanation as any, so she nods. "Your family is back on Aite?" she asks, nodding towards the now-deactivated omni-tool. "Or somewhere else...?"
Linora nods at the first question, and seems about to offer her theory on the matter, but when the second is asked she answers that one instead. "Four of ours. The rover is the quickest, so the team should be using that."
Jason nods a couple of times and casts a glance back at Ilyna. "What do you think?" he asks, "Might give us a chance to focus on something other than this hole in the ground for a bit and make ourselves useful. Up for a little trip?"
