Jasper glares at Artullin. "If I do, you can be dang sure it ain't gonna be mine..." he says, but he quickly follows it up with a jovial chuckle.
#East – April 6, 2016
Artullin turns and gives the old human a look, but the slight nod suggests he's only bantering. Maybe.
Uvena grins behind her helmet, still looking ahead. "That makes two of us," she says. "I've tried holding down simple work for the last forty years, but there was always a tempting security job opportunity that paid just a little bit better. Those had no action, though... most of the time."
Jasper whistles loudly. "Well, yer' gon' make up fer' all that downtime with Redrock, lemme tell ya. You'll be up to yer' earlobes in action. These folks can't seem to steer clear of a fight fer' more than a few hours, it seems." he says with a shake of his head.
Distant hints of mountains can be seen to the south-east, stretching along the horizon, south into obscurity.
Uvena enables her comms. "Charlie, reporting in," she says. "I'm seeing a lot of snow." Her tone is light-hearted. She then sighs. "I'm almost counting on it," she says. "Wolfe seems to spend a lot of time at hospital from what I've heard."
Jasper glances over towards the mountains, giving a little chuckle at Uvena's comment. "Ooooh, yeah. That boy is in an' outta that hospital so much, they oughtta give 'im a discount."
Jasper gives a quick shrug. "I don't know. Hell, I ain't decided yet if it is bad luck. Bad luck that he gets shot at so dang much, maybe. But he's gotta have an angel on his shoulder to keep on survivin'."
Uvena nods. "I hope he left that bad luck at home this time, though," she says. "This trek has been quiet so far, and I hope it stays that way."
Jasper continues along, jovial smile on his face. "Mmhmm. Has been pretty cozy, hasn't it? Got another week an' some change to go, though."
Uvena nods. "Yeah, it's certainly been a nice trip," she says. "Hopefully the researchers don't need all that many days to get their samples." She enables her comms. "Charlie here, we see a mountain in the distance, but nothing else to speak about." She stops and turns around. "The others seems to have had enough of this already."
Artullin has just been merely listening to the two chat. His drone zips around them, still following its routine.
Jasper gives a nod as he turns back. "Good sightlines out here anyhow. S'pose we'd prolly see anything comin' long 'fore it actually gets to us." He continues to watch the drone, "What's that lil' feller do?" he asks with a glance towards Artullin, "They got drones fer' all sortsa stuff."
Artullin looks to Jasper. "That one is Scope. Mostly used for long range recon and light engagements. I also have Spark for engineering and Clip for combat," he explains. "And, no, I didn't name them. My daughter did."
Jasper raises an eyebrow. "Ahh, daughter? Got one 'a my own, too." he says with a nod, "Whatchu doin' way out here if ya got a lil'un to look after?"
Artullin She's with her mother, so she's in good hands. I'm just out here earning some credits for them back home. And an expedition is a quick and relatively safe way to do so.
Uvena smirks as she moves to be ahead of the group for the trip back. "We all have that in common then," she says with a chuckle. "What would be the chances of that for an arbitrary group like us?"
Artullin hums and follows Uvena. "Slim, I would wager," he says with a nod. "What's your kid like, hum- Jasper?"
Jasper gives a shrug of his shoulders. "S'pose ya don't get too many parents out on jobs like this." he agrees with Uvena before turning to Artullin. "Ah, she ain't a kid no more." he says with a chuckle, "Got a couple 'a kids 'a her own." He lets out a deep sigh, "I don't get to see 'em half as much as I wish I did, though."
Uvena smiles behind her helmet. "They never stop being our little ones, though," she says. She doesn't look back as she speaks, but she's loud and clear through her helmet's speaker.
Jasper raises an eyebrow. "Uhhh, no. Can't say he did." he says with a chuckle. "Sounds like there's a story buried somewhere in there."
Uvena chuckles. "I didn't expect he would," she says. "You've seen my kid when I went to retrieve my things, and just how much of a friend she's with the boss."
Jasper chuckles once again. "Ahhh, I gotcha. Jus' wanted to make sure she wasn't gon' throw a fit 'bout it?"
Uvena nods. "Exaclty," she says. "He'll probably send her a message if I as much as go to the bathroom."
